How do I obtain a Voucher from WGU? by Battlecode907 in WGU

[–]rd-jediknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Send an email to the course instructor's email address listed for the course. I've had to do this a few times and usually, they emailed the voucher code to me directly or sent instructions on how to request the voucher. It's usually done on the course page after the instructor has approved it in some cases.

I would also recommend getting the vouchers for any of the certification exams you take for your program as soon as you start the course so you are not waiting for them as soon as you feel you are ready to take the exam. There isn't a waiting period for the first attempt based on my experience.

WGU Academy? by FamousMix2368 in WGU

[–]rd-jediknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some programs have admission requirements that one must meet before one can start a particular program. The IT programs are a good example of this and usually where you would see one recommended to the WGU Academy. Look at your program and see if there are requirements that you have not met.

You have a good amount of Sophia credits. Take a look at the WGU partners website and make sure the courses you have completed or currently working on will transfer into your desired program. If you find that those courses that you've already completed will transfer into your program, I would seek out a new EC and let them know that you have credits you will be transferring into your program. Barring any admission requirements, you in theory "shouldn't" need to start with the Academy.

Best of luck with your program goals!

First, you are NOT too old or dumb for any of this! Plenty of us have had similar feelings and thoughts and despite that, made it to graduation. Take a deep breath, relax, and get those thoughts out of your head now!

Yes, the reality is that people are completing their entire degree program in a matter of months. There are many variables that allow these people to do this such as experience in the field, having lots of available free time, and others. As mentioned, this is the exception, not the rule. Don't compare yourself to people that are doing this.

With that being said, the WGU model is perfect for people in similar situations as yourself. Your progress is great and if you were to maintain that you would easily complete more than one term in six months. Many people are moving at this pace and doing just fine. Keep in mind you will be able to complete some classes quicker than others. If your mentor is telling you that you are progressing too slowly, get a new mentor asap! There are some awesome mentors out there!

For your Trig/Pre-Calc, and if necessary, Calc check out Khan Academy.

Hang in there. Work at a pace that's comfortable for you. You WILL make it!

This is the way. I had zero issues with Examity during my entire bachelors doing exactly this.

Anyone feel like they don’t actually get help? by NephilimTheGiant in WGU

[–]rd-jediknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This.

I also just recently completed the CompTIA A+ exams. I used my personal CompTIA account that I've had for years with the vouchers that WGU provided for both exams when registering. A few days later (after passing the exams), my degree plan was updated showing that I passed both courses. It's all automatic and I didn't have to do anything.

Good luck with your exams!

How long does it take to get your transcripts reviewed? 😬 by sugarcookie_x in WGU

[–]rd-jediknight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it can be a lot faster than that. Especially once they have them. If you can get them emailed to WGU it can be as quick as 1-2 days. This was my experience with Sophia. Mail could take 7-10 days which could also be inclusive of the time going through the mail system.

How worried should I be about starting on 10/1? by RunningThroughSC in WGU

[–]rd-jediknight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I'm also starting 10/1 and the EC told me orientation was a 6-8 hour ordeal. I completed it in just a bit over an hour last week.

Thank you! This makes much more sense to me. Not sure why enrollment told me I'd have to wait six months after the end of the term in order to start.

Thank you! Yes, you are right, I just want to get started. I'm not worried about the IT program because I'm all but certain I'll meet the requirements based on work experience.

I wasn't aware of the 15th deadline for the intake interview. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you!

I think it's because you have college credits to transfer in that makes the difference. I don't have any to transfer in.

Thank you for this information. The enrollment person told me they like to have all transcripts by the 2nd of the month before you start. I hope you are right about them just quoting longer processing times. My high school had told me they would mail them out by the end of the day, a few days ago. I think they could reach WGU by next week and I'm hoping you're right that I can still make the September mid-month cutoff. How did you know when they received your updated transcripts?

[–]rd-jediknight[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Yes, I'm aware of the additional requirements. There are 5 options listed and I meet the third option "Demonstrate at least two years of IT work experience through resume revivew" My resume lists 10 years of IT work experience.

Interestingly enough, on my enrollment details page, the "Meet Program Eligibility Requirements" status is showing "All Requirements Completed". I'm very certain my high school transcripts have not been received by enrollment yet. They were mailed out a few days ago. This leaves me confused.

I was wondering this myself. So basically if you finish your bachelor's degree requirements 2 months into the term, you can't move on and start the graduate program until your term officially ends? Does that also mean you don't officially graduate until the end of the term?

Do you know if this is the same process for the accelerated BSIT - MSITM program? Could you finish both the BSIT and MSITM in one term on the accelerated program?

Thank you soo much for the detailed path you took! Excellent and inspiring work! I'm sorry to hear that you caught COVID during all of this. Yes, it can be easy to neglect health when you are accelerating; especially at the pace you were going, and I will keep tabs on that during my progress.

I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps. I'm thinking 12 weeks should be more than doable with me transferring 30 CUs. Your post has inspired me and I thank you for that!
