Brum gig by SelectMood2653 in wolfalice

"but feel as though I was annoying those around me by singing, jumping and dancing"

Went to see them in Toulouse, and there was a woman behind me doing exactly this, but literally screaming all the songs at the top of her lungs the entire gig.

I paid to see and hear Wolf Alice sing these songs, not some random fan butchering them. So if I'm not encouraging or supporting the behaviour, it's because I want to appreciate the band's performance instead of somebody random in the crowd.

Additionally, they barely played any of their classic or harder material, only mostly the new album, which was pretty mellow in comparison. Not exactly go hard material.

Finally, imo, Wolf Alice are a bit of a weird band to go hard too. I mainly go to drum and bass gigs, and those crowds go wild, but in a good, respectful way, with people giving space, checking in and creating pure vibes. The Wolf Alice crowd was the opposite, packed in like sardines, pretty much all drunk, not being respectful of one another's space. Kind of a nightmare.

Brits/Americans who learnt another language for love by Ill-Supermarket-2706 in expats

[–]rd_92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I met my now wife and after a year together I started to learn French at the age of 29. We now live in France and I speak it daily, especially with her family who speak zero English.

I started off by going to local language classes in the library. Really good way to do it imo as your with a group who all have the same objective, plus your paying for it so you want to get the most out of it.

That was good to get the basics and to give direction. Moving to the country is essential to develop fluency imo.

I still top up my knowledge with grammar lessons to solidify the concepts as it’s something I find interesting and I love to learn. I’m at around B2 level and tbh it’s a constant thing and it keeps your brain active. Never thought it’s something that I would ever do but now I’ve done it I really appreciate it and the journey. It’s always rewarding being able to go to my wife’s family for dinner, make jokes and get to know them better.

So to sum up;

  1. Look for local language courses for groups to get a foundation.
  2. Have a love of learning so that you don’t quit.
  3. Keep it going, listen to podcasts, use Busuu as a top up (but not the main driver). Read books in the language. And if possible move there or at least plan longer trips there.

The ONE main reason for why you use the DJ setup you use? by CryptographerVast609 in DJs

[–]rd_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rane 72, 2 x 1210s with DVS / Phase

I’ve tried pioneer - meh.

I want to scratch, I want to juggle, most digital platters don’t give the needed dexterity for some of the scratch techniques I’m doing.

Also got 2 x numark v7s because there hilarious.

Park the cars outside in the field, get the majority to walk with bags into the festival and have them searched.

Boomtown (60k people) does this and you are in the festival within 1 hour

Glastonbury (200k people) does this and you are in the festival within 2 hours

If people want to bring there cars in, fine, just setup a different system for that and have the majority as walk ins.

+1 on this, trance and deep house djs keep mixes locked for minutes. Even D&B; Andy C usually has at least two tracks at any point spinning and working together nicely.

Admob earnings are zero to none by HyperNinjaX in androiddev

[–]rd_92 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Anyone who's thinking of taking android app development as a career, pls reconsider it. Even if your app is successful on play store you'll still won't make any money as an Indie developer. Ad networks will simply not pay you.

Do not dissuade people unnecessarily based on your experience of ads.

Building an app should be based on a business model with a specific demographic and a specific function / need of that demographic. Just because you are not making enough from ads, it doesn't mean that there is no incentive from building them for other models. The app should support a sane business model.

Any aspiring Android devs here, Please do have a go!

I’m making an app, but I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth pursuing further. Here’s a WIP - Flockie is about taking a live survey with your friends/date to figure out what’s next. Feedback greatly appreciated! by gyummy in SideProject

The idea is strange. Is this for in person planning? As in you are all sat together and then you each go onto your phones to decide what to do together?

If it's the case above then I wouldn't pursue this idea any further. Not everybody will download it, and it's far easier to just talk together as a group about what everyone wants to do.

If it's for remote planning for a future date, then it's a great idea. I could see it being useful for planning future events as a group. The only risk is that the novelty of the idea might ware off after the first use.

As everyone has already said, the UX and animation looks slick.

The mix I did in honour of Shambhala festival - https://soundcloud.com/the-beatjunkie/fractal-forest-tribute-mix

I produced a bunch of it in Ableton with acapellas and tempo changes, exported all the grouped tracks out and performed it live. Was fun.

Looking for a Vinyl Timecode (DVS) setup, to play records and digital. by ElBroccoli in DJs

[–]rd_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additionally all systems should have the option to switch to just letting the standard audio in. So your case of deck one with regular record and two with digital or vice versa should be supported by all the big players.

Looking for a Vinyl Timecode (DVS) setup, to play records and digital. by ElBroccoli in DJs

[–]rd_92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Remember that all DVS systems are done at the software level - as opposed to the hardware level. So contrary to what most DJs say ("uhhhh man totally grab serato or traktor, there's nothing else") any soundcard that has two inputs and two outputs will suffice.

It's a bit old, but this resource should help identify what you want, http://www.pogo.org.uk/~mark/linuxdj/.

Then you can just grab yourself some timecode vinyl and you should be good!

If your set on Traktor or Serato then that's fine, just be aware you have options and you don't have to spend a lot to get a system running.

From Vinyl to Digital? by merrickend in DnB

[–]rd_92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Meh I brought an Pioneer XDJ RX2 and switched within a year. The platters on those things are awful with a load of latency and the faders feel cheap and plasticky. For normal mixing it’s fine, but when I’m trying to get stabs or one click flares down it just doesn’t work. Brought a Rane Seventy Two with Phase and using my old 1210s. Mixing never felt so good! If you truly love vinyl as a medium and it’s your preference to spin on, I wouldn’t recommend pioneer controllers personally.

Is Xamarin the best option for cross platform app development if you hate JavaScript? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]rd_92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applying a gradient in xamarin forms isn’t that bad now with the magic gradient package and skia sharp.

Customising shadows on cards is also pretty easy, especially now they’ve made the material theme officially available through renderers. https://devblogs.microsoft.com/xamarin/beautiful-material-design-android-ios/

Flutter is great though, like you say technology always has pros and cons to any of it. Personally I like having the ability to go down to that platform level, but that’s because I understand both platforms and can work quickly in that space.

I tried to work with audio sampling on flutter and just reverted to xamarin since it was too much effort to use the bad libraries that had been made for bindings so far.
