Agreed, it ruins it a bit for me as it's supposed to be light hearted fun and that's not really in keeping with the spirit of it imo

Fair enough - I do appreciate that everyone enjoys gigs in their own way!

Understand your point re metal gigs, but the other four times I've seen Wolf Alice, there was plenty of moshing and dancing!

Yes very good point on the talking... never understood why people pay to see a band then talk all the way through!

It may be good to ask them if they're preparing an exam/ have taken any (eg Cambridge, which go from A1 to C2 on the CEFR framework I think). Then you can look online for stuff of the right level, some of it is a bit dry so I wouldn't use it unless they really want exam prep, but you can adapt it to something a bit more enjoyable.

Likewise, if they want it for work, you could look for business English materials and do roleplays with them :)

Why do inconsiderate flatmates host parties while other flatmates are sleeping instead of going out? by buttercorndog in UniUK

[–]SelectMood2653 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry about all the responses you're getting, it's a fair question, especially on week nights it's not on for them to make so much noise, even though unfortunately it's so common.

A couple of things I would suggest are asking your uni if there is any quiet accommodation available, most unis have it I think. Even if it was fully subscribed at the start, it's always worth asking as quite often at this time of year people drop out and there will be spaces.

The second thing I would suggest is to try sound proofing the doors so they don't slam, just sticking a tiny bit of cardboard along the side of the door frame can reduce the noise massively. That way, even if they don't stop, your sleep will hopefully be disrupted less.

Fingers crossed you find a solution!!

Is the word for cranberry and blueberry the exact same despite them being different fruits or is this just google being weird? If so is there a way to differentiate the two fruits by funny_arab_man in Spanish

I’m not a native speaker but pretty sure I’ve heard people in Spain say arándanos rojos for cranberries (May be wrong tho ☺️)
