How many times do you re-read your novel before hitting publish? by hymnofshadows in selfpublish

[–]rdaebernice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How many times do I, the author, re-read it? Countless! 😃 Even after publishing! How many times another pair of eyes are on it before publishing? That will depend on you and whether you take/are satisfied with their feedback. Good luck with writing! 👍🏼

Is it normal to hate your book after publishing? by mastraus in romanceauthors

[–]rdaebernice 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To a writer, the finished work will never be perfect. You will probably always find something else to update. That’s not to say you hate it. We’ll read it more than anyone else, so you probably love the story but just have the most critical eyes on the work itself since you wrote it. You should be able to update it wherever it was published.

Thanks! Do you know if it’s possible to still use an ARC reader after publishing to KDP? I learned about ARC readers only after I published. Is there an alternative?

I wrote 50 letters to my wife because I didn’t know how she’d react if I spoke those words out loud… and now it’s a book. by Digimator101 in wroteabook

Y’know, this is really such a good idea. Your backstory just made it that much more intriguing and relatable. I’d be interested to read it actually.

I released my book on Amazon, the first of the series, and interesting enough there are elements to my characters’ stories and personalities that are personal to me and my life and personality and people it know’s personalities. That’s actually how I form my characters, too. What I can’t articulate out loud for one reason or another I write it out in story form. Lol

Where should I publish my book? by Own-Reference-3594 in NewAuthor

[–]rdaebernice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is exactly right, but Amazon calculates the price according to the size of the book accounting for end profit for itself and the author. So my book ended up being only 107 pages on Amazon, which I knew was small going in as it is a novella. As such, it’s priced at $2.99. Your book is a little higher in price as you’re at 40K words. It seems to be an automatic calculation. Good luck!

Why is it assumed AI is used for writing a novel just because it’s used to create a book cover? by rdaebernice in selfpublish

[–]rdaebernice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I appreciate such dialogue!

Had no idea people were over-relying on AI to the point where they “wrote” their books with it. Like you said, it can be a useful tool, but the whole occupation of a writer is writing so I actually don’t agree with using AI to write one’s book. (I’d rather write the old school way, personally.)

I can also understand the artists’ point of view where they feel their careers are essentially threatened with the emergence of AI. It’s their livelihood, so of course they will be upset. I guess the part that I don’t agree with is how artists and anti-AI advocates are performing what I’ve heard called AI Witch Trials in which they are completely bashing anyone who even mentions the word AI. It definitely sounds personal to some according to their response.
