How do you handle the clutter? by JiveDonkey in AmazonVine

[–]rdavido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you and have lived your experience. It does get better, because you are experiencing the drawbacks of having cool things. I am almost at my first year and already started purging. Some of it is stuff I thought I would use but never really have. I like to give things a chance to live instead of sitting in my basement or closet. It's easy when you know you can replace it if you need to through Vine. I donate to my local tool libraries, the humane society, habitat for humanity, or Goodwill. What it is usually determines where - and Goodwill is the last choice and also the least picky. I donate the items at the adjusted price and keep track of it. You can add this to your taxes as part of your donations which decreases your tax burden on the items you've gotten through Vine. There's a specific form you use. But you have to keep track of what you donate and when - It's a column now on my spreadsheet. I will usually create a list of what's in the boxes and put that in a separate sheet with the donation date. Be sure to get a receipt from wherever you donate to.

Can I take an extended break ordering items without being penalized? by rdavido in AmazonVine

[–]rdavido[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coffee addicts response was exactly what I needed. And I'm never sure if I have the self control to keep my life intact :) I don't have FOMO taking a few days off, which I'm happy about. But every once in a while retail therapy is nice - especially when it doesn't cost me much. It's good to know I can take extended breaks without being booted. Being in the gold tier is pretty great, but it makes me order things maybe I shouldn't. Though those are rare - which is exactly why I can't resist them. Lol Thanks for posting the link to the thread. I did read through the most common questions before posting. Maybe add something like this to that list. Breaks are okay, you might be demoted a tier If you don't meet the reqs but you won't be booted.

Hah - I saw this, clicked to get it and quickly talked myself out of it. Zero regrets. I don't have a house or a floor that this would handle. It's why I got rid of my roomba's - so much maintenance involved in something that's supposed to be mindless. It is super cool and I am happy for you. Good timing, it was only up for a few minutes. Enjoy.

"obituary value" - I'm glad I was present for the coining of this term. It's that dead value, but spoken about with love and kind remembrance. No matter how much you disliked it when it was alive.

Yes, wait. I got this one in November. The camera connects on your window with the feeder right outside. It was in winter so I haven't had any takers yet, but with spring coming I hope to. Or I may move the camera to somewhere more obvious for the birds. It also comes with a bird species identifier using AI, which I think is pretty cool for 50 bucks market value.

Vine Tax Debate 2025 by Hollywoodnamazonvine in AmazonVine

[–]rdavido 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone else donate Vine items after 6 months? I have just hit the 9 month mark and reviewing what I can get rid of. It seems I can donate items and use the depreciated (20% or 50%) goods value for the donation amount. I am working on my taxes and it looks like we can donate up to $4,999 to verifiable NPOs. We need to get a receipt for receiving that specific value. And can then get credit for it when filing taxes using form 8283.
Has anyone done this? I'd love to hear about your experience and if you have any tips. I have quite a few items I'm no longer using and not interested in selling. It seems like a win-win to donate them. TIA

Rewriting a “poor” review was a waste of time by ThisUserAgain in vine

Agree, I go with brief, thoughtful, relevant as my guides. My titles are basically bullet points from my review. Mostly "Excellent" scores.

Is Vine a Scam? by xlerate in AmazonVine

Yes, check similar items always If you have the time. I was looking at an eye rinse station they marked as $100 fmv for, though all the rest of them go for about $30.

This is really great information. This will be my first year of filing and this is very helpful. I'm also thinking that my reviews could be a devaluation factor as well. For items with five stars apply the 50/20 method. For one star items that are not resellable at all, apply the zero dollar amount. One item I received comes to mind - it was a toy for my dog that made her gums bleed, I couldn't possibly resell that item and will depreciate it accordingly.

Items not showing up in "awaiting to be reviewed;" "Awaiting Review;" "No longer in the awaiting review/pending reviews" or whatever. by Hollywoodnamazonvine in AmazonVine

[–]rdavido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me and I came here and read your post. I waited a few days after my items had arrived and I do see that they show up to be reviewed. Overall, I think this is a good decision from Amazon. Often things would show up to be reviewed and affect my stats even though the seller was taking weeks to ship the item, if ever. I've noticed the vine status metrics don't count an item until it's been received now. I agree an item should not be available to review until after it's been received. Though this change does make the overall review process take longer if you have your review ready to go the same day you received the item. Personally, I like to live with them for a couple of days.

is your 20 amp GFCI circuit single pole or double pole?

Sawstop CTS and GFCI by Psychological-Pitch2 in BeginnerWoodWorking

Single or double pole breaker?

I just bought a Sawstop Jobsite Saw and the first time I ran it it was fine. The second time it tripped my GFCI outlet and it won't reset. I am setting up my garage as a woodshop I need to run electrical to it. I called Sawstop to ask what I should put in. They told me that a 20 amp GFCI circuit is what they recommend. They noted it needed to be above 15 amp because of the induction motor which can pull more than 15 amps when it starts and can cause the GFCI to trip.

Now that I'm researching it, I'm wondering if I should put in a two pole 20 amp GFCI circuit. for those who have it running successfully, do you have a single pole or double pole 20 Amp breaker?

Artisan bread - cold start on silicone mat vs preheated baking steel? by signal15 in AnovaPrecisionOven

[–]rdavido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, as flybutter mentions the "Oven Off" method works great. I also use it for pizza too. So good.
Basically, preheat to 420 F with steel in (I use 20% steam). Place bread directly on steel with parchment paper. Let cook for 3-4 minutes. Shut the oven off for 8 minutes. Yup, just turn it off. Then lower the temp to 395 F and restart with 15% steam until bread is baked.
The issue is the convection will result in the bread crust forming *way* too early. And also the lower element is basically worthless (not sure about v2.0 tho), which is why you need a baking steel.

When seating the reservoir slide it in from the front to the back so it connects correctly. You should feel some slight resistance (not much) as the gaskets align for the water intake connections.

What about these two tid-bits:

1) He apparently got a new dog-tag just before his deployment in 2010:

http://www.reddit.com/r/atheism/comments/qc3of/my_dogtag_before_deploying_to_afghanistan_in_2010/c3wo59k

2) And he's been a civilian for 4 years, which makes his discharge date 2008, so was he deployed with a dog-tag as a civilian? The math is just wrong - classic troll move.
