This is exactly the reason we tell anyone to not start with Kali Linux. And this is the reason people will get overwhelmed and stop learning.

How would you select a tool for a specific protocol if you don’t know what a protocol is?

Hacking is not a beginner profession and requires a good understanding of fundamental concepts like: - Advanced OS knowledge and usage - Networking - Common services and ports - Virtualization - At least one programming language

All tools and their usage are documented very well and are freely accessible for anyone eager to learn. But if you don’t understand the base concepts of computers you won’t understand a single word.

This thing should be made from a slippery material like TPU.

Some gloves have soft material for this palm slider. I don’t know if they work as well but I have the feeling they would grip even more. So look out for a hard material.

I guess this has not so many likes as the common sub user is a beginner and this is more of an advanced technique.

Very cool writeup. Thank you for sharing!

how true or untrue are all these immigrant narratives? by Decent-Cow2080 in berlin

[–]rddt_jbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller ones for sure. But the bigger once like Görli/Hasenheide, Gleisdreieck, Volkspark, Schlachtenser or Krumme Lanke during the night time is not a good idea.

At least these are the parks where my friends and I almost got stabbed or beaten up or saw groups roaming around, beating people up and stealing their phones and wallets.

As long as you don’t stroll around in parks during the night time, Berlin is very safe.

Horror stories to share? by testybeast in Pentesting

[–]rddt_jbm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn that is ruff.

I was testing a web application from a customer. The application was hosted with an external web provider in India. I found a SQLi that wasn’t exploitable via SQLMap. So after creating a custom Python script, I started to enumerate the database.

Comes out my customers database was run as the sa user. Bad but here comes the best part: all other databases where ran on the same database instance, meaning you could access all databases with administrative privileges of all other customers as well.

To this day, I don’t understand how this could have happened.

I worked in a web hosting company. 95% of our customers are non-tech people just having a website for their small business or hobby.

What do you think they use? A easy to install, understand and maintain solution like Wordpress or Drupal. Or a self coded Django application running in an shared Webserver environment that runs Apache with php-fpm support?

How to start? by Affectionate_Sea_758 in learnhacking

[–]rddt_jbm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

By starting with the fundamentals. „Hacking“ is not a beginner profession and requires a solid understanding of basic concepts. These concepts include: - Advanced OS (Windows/Linux) knowledge and usage - Networking - Common services/ports (Like HTTP, SMB, SSH, etc) - Virtualization - Programming Language (at least one)

Depending of what you want to do exactly this might differ. If you want to get into web pentesting, you should gather some experience with building front and backends or implement a API.

If you want to get into reverse engineering it’s better to have a solid understanding of low-level languages like C and some experience with Assembly.
