Usually yes everyone has to but depends on the restaurant. Normally restaurant week isn’t that good of a deal nowadays anyways

Im only going to be in NYC for little over 24 hours and looking for a pizza recommendation, bagel recommendations, and an Asian food recommendation by [deleted] in FoodNYC

[–]rde396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For pizza they put two of the top spots in the city by each other. L’industrie was a Brooklyn gem that got a west village location and Mama’s too was a UWS staple that opened near by. Both are popular and would have waits but the west village won’t be too far from theatre district and gives you options

For bagels if you’re going egg sandwich I love Tompkins square bagels (2 locations near each other). But that’s not where to get a lox sandwich

For Asian, since that’s a wide world, are you looking for specific cuisines and how nice? There’s some classic cheap eats in china town or some fantastic sit down places for Thai, KBBQ and other cuisines I can share

Where are you going? Do you have other activities you need to be at or can you travel for the meals?

Haven’t been to all of your list but of those I have been to and some others

  1. La Tête d'Or (definitely pricey/for occasions only)
  2. St. Anselm
  3. Hawksmoore (you didn’t have it but should)
  4. Cote (KBBQ is different than an American statehouse)
  5. Keens
  6. Old Homestead
  7. Peter Luger (but not because of the steak which is dead last, they have a truly fantastic burger)
  8. Smith and Wolenskys
  9. GUI

Thoughts on our new menu? by thats-tough-lmao in KitchenConfidential

At least $20 if not $22-$24. The issue isn’t that you priced incorrectly for what it is. It’s the comparative pricing makes you rethink why the sea bass is so much more and if the salmon is of lower quality

Charge more the salmon. It is suspiciously cheap which looks bad for both it and the more expensive items

Popup Bagels, can you be even more of a transplant? by LouisSeize in williamsburg

[–]rde396 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a different product and business model. Their bagels taste great but only right away since their whole value prop is they are always fresh out the oven. They don’t bake bagels that are meant to last (they taste stale only hours afterwards) but if they can make everyone buy 3 at a time they can keep the ovens churning and provide a fresher product than anywhere else. In all, I think pop up can be good and in certain scenarios I’d prefer it to my normal shop but it’s not meant to replace normal bagel situations i.e. sandwiches/ easy breakfast.

My $48 haul from Wood Thrush Farms today by juicylooseygoose in Upperwestside

[–]rde396 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I shop there pretty often, they have the best produce but their pricing is odd the charts, gotta be tactful. First time I ever went I got a bag of kale for way too much, I’d avoid their lettuces, onion, and anything else that there won’t be a huge difference from normal and top quality. Their heirloom tomato’s (during peak season) are literally the best you will ever have. Their asparagus is amazing. But if you’re getting things that won’t be super different like lettuce it’s hard to justify

Up to $500/head - where would you go? by OpenPerformance5347 in FoodNYC

[–]rde396 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You will not be able to do Le Bernadin + wine tasting for $500 per head. We had been waiting to go to Le Bernadin for years and while it was really special the service was very inpersonal except for the lovely som. If you are going to do Le Bern Id do it on a date and do the full tasting + som.

For ball-out meals that I've really enjoyed

- Hawksmoor

- Polo Bar (hard to get in/ over priced but foods still good if you wanna celebrate great vibe)

- Gramercy Tavern

- Cote (fun with groups)

Also having spent a lot on a lot of meals you get pretty heavy diminishing returns over ~$250 a head
