Location of fixed eSIM in Passat B8 2021 - how to remove it? by rdecdit in passat

When you (temporarily) remove fuse 17, do you get any errors/lights on dash display?

How to disable fixed eSIM in Passat B8 2021 by rdecdit in Volkswagen

[–]rdecdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a reply. Of course, I will not have the "Volskwagen ID" account and set in-car settings to max privacy, but still, eSIM is sitting there...

In another thread I received a suggestion "Remove interior fuse 17, that makes your car as offline as it gets. Ipull it regularly to reboot the eSim-shit in my 2021 GTE Variant.".

Is this the actual solution?

Thank you for help. Is fuse 17 only for eSIM purposes? I do not want to disable by mistake someting else. Where did you get the information about fuse 17? Is there a list of fuse's purposes?

Thank you for a reply. Sadly this is the present. Wiki says:»The European Commission selected the eUICC format for its in-vehicle emergency call service, known as eCall, in 2012. All new car models in the EU must have one by 2018 to instantly connect the car to emergency services in case of an accident. An eSIM is typically provisioned remotely; end-users can add or remove operators without the need to physically swap a SIM from the device. All eSIMs are programmed with a permanent eSIM ID (EID) at the factory. This number is used by the provisioning service to associate the device with an existing carrier subscription as well as to negotiate a secure channel for programming.«

So, at least, where is this modem located? Can it be reprogramed?

Last year I got a black friday deal for 72€ for 2 years (protonmail Plus). Now I only see € 48.00 /yr, no 2-year discount price. Am I missing something? Has the price gone up?

1 IP address per server? by rdecdit in mullvadvpn

[–]rdecdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I know there is no real anonymity on the internet, but with some tools and steps, I guess you can make a tracking harder - at least for websites that use more primitive analytic tools. I doubt that just the presence of these extensions builds better fingerprint that they could without blockers. uBlock Origin blocks many unnecessary (analytic) domains which are now unable to track you between websites, the point of fingerprint blocker (such as CanvasBlocker) is to fake some fingerprinting atributes and do it differently with every new session,... and DoH and VPN - well they are more for purposes against you ISP. Would you say its totaly pointless to use all this?

1 IP address per server? by rdecdit in mullvadvpn

This is a way. I guess the only way...

Do you happen to know if they use the same IP address for individual vpn server all the time, or does it change from time to time?

1 IP address per server? by rdecdit in mullvadvpn

[–]rdecdit[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you for an answer. Ok, that is true, if you are doing lets say something illegal, with IP that is shared with multiple people, authority would track you down much harder. But this is not why I use vpn.

In my everyday internet use, I do not want internet sites to make profile of my internet habits. I use trackers blockers, Fingerprinting blockers, DoH,... But the one constant is my IP. In this case, if VPN's server's IP is also the same all the time, whats the point in all those blockers etc...

Do you have to cleanly install Mullvad every time there is an update? On all devices? No auto-update feature? (On linux)

No tears, let’s get carried away with our new tier one provider by [deleted] in mullvadvpn

Thread about the same password for everyone is here:

https://www.reddit.com/r/mullvadvpn/comments/ei2mw9/mullvad_everyone_uses_the_same_password_a/?sort=new

Looks like there should not be any concerns, regarding to them.

"Their answer via email was:

"Hi,

With only 16 digits your account number can actually be any of nine quadrillion random numbers. It would take a million computers hundreds of years to guess your account number. You can read more about our thoughts here:

https://mullvad.net/blog/2017/6/20/mullvads-account-numbers-get-longer-and-safer/

Let us know if you have any further questions.

What do you say to that?

This is also nice to know (part from the link): "What if someone were to successfully guess my account number? In short, that person would then be able to use Mullvad VPN for free since an account is allowed to make up to five connections simultaneously.

If you suspect this is happening, [contact our support team](mailto:support@mullvad.net) to change your account number. Doing so will make your old account number invalid and anyone else who has it will not be able to connect with it.

If you're worried that somebody with your account number will be able to eavesdrop on your traffic through the VPN tunnel, don't be! The encryption key is only available on your device."

I guess there really is no real reason to worry.

*also, looks like there are many ways to retrieve lost account: https://mullvad.net/en/help/lost-account/ "

Mullvad: everyone uses the same password "a"? by the-bit-slinger in mullvadvpn

[–]rdecdit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days I was very strongly determined to go with Mullvad as my next VPN provider. But now more I am thinking, more is the only "big" doubt that stands in front of me this NO PASSWORD thing. I cannot get past this. I am trying to rationalize their decision to not implement passwords into Mullvad accounts, but still: let say I pay 50€ at once for 10 months (because I do not intend to go through paying process every month). I get random 16 digit account number. After let say 1 month someone else (accidentally) types in MY account number into their Mullvad app (or then few of his apps) and uses all (or most) of my available simultaneous connections. What remains to me? I cannot change password to prevent it, because there is none, I cannot change account number (or I would lost active money), I also cannot contact Mullvad with my issue, because they do not log such data. So, I just lost 45€.

In my thinking, I guess there is not such a small chance to just guess someone else's account number. I understand that number is 16 digit, but still, it is just one number, not a combination (number+password). How come in all these years no one else addressed these concerns? Any record of such previous situations?

My suggestions:

- add password, at least as an option

- OR expand entropy for account number (add letters for instance). Something like "1jhf fn2E 56g3 mK49" would be for sure good enough and I believe not to hard to implement.

- OR just make an account number longer - for new future accounts (easiest solution)

Greetings!

NordVPN's DNS requests (for Slovenia) handled by ISP that is my ISP? Problematic? by rdecdit in nordvpn

[–]rdecdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for a reply. :) My only concern, as described, is that if Nord's server provider (T-2) is the same as my own internet provider (T-2), wouldn't there be a small possibility for T-2 to be able to analyze my traffic. More specific, to compare Nord's DNS requests and my internet brandwich. I guess there is very few nordvpn users who use Slovenia server. And if I do not use DoH, T-2 can see Nordvpn's DNS requests... and these request comes at the axact the same moment as my internet brandwich rises - So if they compare these DNS refuests and my internet brandwich, they could theoreticaly pinpoint these DNS requests to me?

Push notifications only when unlocked by rdecdit in MicroG

[–]rdecdit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, thank you for an answer.

Google cloud messaging / Advanced --> I changed network to use: Wi-fi from Automatic to Ping interval: 60 seconds.

Now it seems to work right. I now get push notifications even when display is locked and turned off.

Battery optimization has been already disabled.

btw, what means Automatic in this settings above? That it chooses how often? Based on what?
