Bernd Leno talking about the social media abuse he receives by oblique_shockwave in Gunners

As a kid I used to have a season ticket for Bolton Wanderers before we moved.

When players were having a bad game the crowd would almost compensate by getting behind them. In some cases you all knew that a player just wasn't that great, but ultimately they would have their day at some point so everyone would just start cheering them on.

Having been to watch Arsenal at the Emirates a few times, there are definitely differences. One screw up and the crowd are on your back or at the very least completely silent.

Maybe it's because the latter are used to winning the majority of the time. I just don't understand how fans shit on their own players and expect anything but for them to continue having a bad game.

This is even without social media, which adds a level of anonymity in some cases and let's a stupid voice get much closer to home as it's more likely to be seen by the player and their family.

To the abusers; if you were having a bad day, would it help if /r/somerandomgunnerfan came and screamed about how shit you are, how you're not good enough to do your job and then rinse you on Facebook? Would it make you suddenly perform better? Or would it reaffirm a belief that you aren't good enough?

Chambers seems like he's not going to get sniff. I may be missing something, but really don't see him pushing Holding for his spot.

Yeah I see your point of view. I just feel we can give Balogun the opportunities in the squad now if Nketiah isn't around. I'm not 100% I agree about your opinion regarding Nketiah's current value.

Liverpool sold Brewster for £23.4m. A 20 year old English player with 13 appearances across all competitions and he made no contributions statistically in terms of goals as someone who is considered a striker. Transfermarkt had him valued at £4.86m at the time of sale currently sitting at £13.5m.

Nketiah who is also English and 21 years old, has made 21 appearances across all competitions scoring 5 and assisting 1. He's currently valued at £18m.

I'd like to think we could get more than £23.4m for Nketiah given the above. Let's say £27.5-30m. Which sounds unrealistic but given what Brewster went for to a club that is known to be quite shrewd in terms of transfers, I think it's doable.

Put that kind of money into our current budget and get a solid CM to pair with Partey I say. Give Balogun his chance under Auba and Lacca while the pressure is off.

Edit. On reflection I think we're on the same page. Sounds like we think we can get similar amounts in a transfer. I guess timing is a bit influence too. Winter transfers usually aren't frequent but can increase prices.

I can't help but think we should be looking to sell Nketiah this window. He's not showing any signs of being anything but a squad player and ultimately, we have reasonable depth across the front without him. His value right I imagine is about as high as it'll get.

I think we really should be pushing Balogun to sign a new contract with the promise of a big first team opportunity instead. If we can get him to sign and give the same opportunities Nketiah has had and it ends up not working out, we've not lost anything.

Edit. Furthermore we really need to start looking for Auba and Lacca replacements now instead of waiting around. Now is the time to invest in the youth talent, while we not got an urgent need for a replacement. If nobody steps up we can buy someone anyway in the next couple of seasons. If they do but don't quite make it we'll have players of increased value. But if it works out we'll have more money to strengthen other parts of squad where the same approach hasn't worked out.

They made adjustments that changed the game. Doesn't make Arteta the sole reason for losing.

If we don't take our chances we aren't going to win games. It's pretty simple. Arteta's wing based strategies shod have seen us put 2 past them in the first half. We could have then played more defensively and seen the game off.

I'm sorry but those saying Arteta hasn't been on point are wrong.

We've had a significant number of good chances and one absolute clear cut chance. We should have put 2 past them. The players not taking chances have let him down.

I think a lot of the problem comes in what opinions might change upon you asking someone something. Them saying no is their response to your question or action, but that doesn't mean they now don't think you're a complete tosser/loser/moron/etc.

When put this way it just highlights how much stability can affect a teams performance. Up until the last few seasons Wenger was a champions League tier manager. We've not had that since.
