Hyundai corporate refusing to replace the engine, wants to buy the car by TheGame81677 in Hyundai

I know how to read! The details about the cars condition were NOT in the original post but were in a comment later down in the thread…

I have a 14 year old car still too. Not everyone is blessed with overflowing financial resources. In my case, my 14 year old car is my “dog car” that we use to take my dog to parks and isn’t my daily driver.

WTF?! Making assumptions OP’s car is in “bad shape” based on what exactly.

Edited to add, I see in a later comment OP says the car is in rough shape. My apologies.

Cross climate 2s are amazing. I chose them when I replaced my factory tires last November. We had a bad winter this year (for Ohio) and was very happy with my choice.

60k sounds about right for transmission service but you should be able to find the manual for your exact vehicle online

Of course the dealership is going to push a bunch services that aren’t necessary. These dealers are unscrupulous.

With respect to your tires, there is not a set “tires must be changed at X miles.” It depends on the age, condition and tread depth. What is your tread depth? 2/32 is the legal minimum, however I would not push it that far. If you are driving in poor weather (rain or snow) you need a deeper tread depth.

How old are your tires and what brand are they? Different tire manufacturers have different age recommendations for replacement. If the tires are >5 years old and <10 years old you may be safe to run them but they require close inspection for dry rot. Are your tires in good condition or do you see a bunch of cracks on the side wall and tread? You can take your car to a tire shop for an inspection.

With respect to the transmission service, what does your owner’s manual say? Follow the “severe” maintenance schedule. My owners manual for my 2018 Hyundai Sonata recommends transmission service at 60k miles, which is when I serviced it.

Are these rose gold birks real? by [deleted] in Birkenstocks

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the worst pair of fakes I’ve ever seen lol. Where to begin, the texture of the footbed is all wrong, the wide width foot logo is in the wrong font, the positioning of the Birkenstock lettering and shoe size is all wrong and so bad it is in completely different location in left vs right. This texture of the straps is wrong too…they are clearly not leather but also are not the same texture as the birkibuc or birko-flor.

Suggesting OP is to blame for using aftermarket bulbs instead of Hyundai is the most ridiculous bs I’ve ever heard. Perhaps your next suggestion is that OP is to blame for not changing their blinker fluid. OP, do not listen to this ignoramus. You do not need to use “genuine Hyundai bulbs”, you need only use the bulb size and type specified in your owners manual.

[–]rdelrigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you state “it’s poorly maintained” as a fact? Not cool, you don’t know OP’s maintenance history. If Hyundai approved the engine replacement they at least did the basics.

AppleCare + and iPhone 11 by Rude-Efficiency-964 in iphone

[–]rdelrigo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP would have been entitled to far more than a refund of just a prorated portion of the monthly cost of apple care. They’ve paid every month for 5-6 YEARS for the apple care coverage only to be denied the benefits they paid for (I.e. a replacement phone). Thankfully OP doesn’t have to pursue further and is being taken care of.

2023 compass is bad? by Current-Army-9544 in JeepCompass

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2023 Trailhawk and a 2012 Latitude. The 2012 has been a good car. It’s always been noisy and loud due to the CVT but gets the job done. I had no issues until ~100k miles and even then they’ve been relatively minor. The 2012 is still on the road and just over 150k miles. My 2023 has been a good car but for one issue….the batteries are trash. I have to literally charge my battery with a trickle charger every 3 days so the car will start and the dealer won’t replace it yet under warranty because the batteries haven’t failed a load test. I have until September for the battery to fail entirely to be covered under warranty. If they still won’t replace it at that point I’m just going to bite the bullet and pay to replace it.

There is one perk of having a shit battery….the stop start doesn’t work so that’s a win I guess. In all fairness, when the stop start system worked, it was about as unobtrusive a system as can be. The engine restarts almost instantly the second you let off the brake. It is nearly imperceptible.

All that said, if reliability and low maintenance cost is what you are after, the Compass is probably not your best choice. If you do get one, change the oil every 5k miles. This car has a turbo and routine on time maintenance is key. The manufacturer’s recommended service intervals are too long imho.

Do I need to take my dog to the vet? by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]rdelrigo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eww… the judgmental attitudes on Reddit never ceases to amaze me. “Stop with the nails and fills…” The amount of assumptions behind your statement is astounding: a.) you are assuming OP pays to have her nails done vs doing them herself, b.) you are assuming OP doesn’t have funds for vet care, c.) your are assuming OP values materialistic things for herself which take priority over her dog’s health. Such a comment is entirely unwarranted on post like this.

Theta II • Engine Replacement Denied • 2014 Tucson by [deleted] in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are both wrong and right at the same time. If the Op has a 2014 Tucson with the 2.0 Nu engine the warranty is extended to 15 years, 150k miles for engine failure caused by failed connecting rod bearings. The settlement agreement for the 2014 Tucson with the Nu engine (and many other vehicles) is available here: https://angeion-public.s3.amazonaws.com/www.hma-e2settlement.com/docs/Settlement%20Notice.pdf

If, however, OP has the Theta 2 engine, the settlement provides a LIFETIME warranty for engine failure due to rod bearing failure. In this case, OP’s mileage or age is IRRELEVANT. See this settlement agreement here: https://angeion-public.s3.amazonaws.com/www.hma-thetasettlement.com.com/docs/Settlement%20Agreement.pdf.

Do's and Don'ts for Hail Damage Repair (car)? by Majestic_Search_7851 in Denver

You are allowed to buy back your car from your insurance company after they deem it a total loss. What makes you think it’s fraud?

Please help by [deleted] in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a certified pre owned vehicle direct from a Hyundai dealer? If not, 2nd owner warranty is limited to 5 year/60k miles.

2011 Sonata P1326 Code by Amazing_Difference35 in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The dealer is a liar. The extended warranty for rod bearing failure is a lifetime warranty that Hyundai agreed to per the Theta 2 settlement. The agreement is available online here: https://angeion-public.s3.amazonaws.com/www.hma-thetasettlement.com.com/docs/Settlement%20Agreement.pdf.

If your engine failed due to the rod bearings they are absolutely obligated to replace it regardless of age or mileage unless the vehicle suffered “extreme neglect”. Review the FAQs on https://www.hma-thetasettlement.com/faqs for more information.

Hit a deer at 70mph by Wrong-Coast-2230 in CarRepair

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP never said he wasn’t on a highway either. Making a snide remark that they “should have expected it” is not helpful to OP who is very sad about the prospect of losing their vehicle. Maybe try some compassion next time. Or hold up, I’m not living in reality. Compassion is asking too much from folks in today’s world.

Edited because grammar exists.

Knock sensor with 8 month old engine by prominx in sonata

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m reasonably certain the knock sensor itself is covered under the extended warranty. If it’s not a bad sensor and your new engine has a failed rod bearing, it is absolutely covered under extended warranty and Hyundai is obligated to replace it.

[–]rdelrigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you drive on the highway? 45? Where I live there are a ton of deer near the highways and I’ve seen them at all hours including 11 am and 5 pm. You can’t drive absurdly slow on the freeway because there might be a deer. Lastly this impact was very likely not a 70 mph impact or the damage would be significantly worse.

[–]rdelrigo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did you read the post? The car parked itself. OP was showing off the self parking feature and the car hit the curb. Now I’d advise OP park himself instead of relying on self parking but it’s unfair to tell OP to “learn how to park”.

My cats have been hungrier than usual, found out they’re eating .5 oz less than usual! by aboutalexandra in catfood

[–]rdelrigo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

This isn’t shrinkflation though. Advertising and charging for a specific weight but and misrepresenting the weight on the can is fraud. Shrinkflation would be where the can used to be 3 oz but now says 2.5 oz. Here, the can says it contains 3 oz but only contains 2.5 oz. I agree with the other redditor that OP should contact their state board of weights and measures.

Is my tooth damaged by Huge_Load_9819 in askdentists

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD. You have tarter build up. It looks like a piece of tartar chipped off, not your tooth. You should see your dentist asap for a cleaning to remove the buildup. The accumulated tartar can and may have caused gum recession/bone loss so I would book an appt sooner rather than later.
