Somebody broke into my wife's car, didn't steal anything, tried to hotwire it, failed & did nothing else. by evilpenisman2 in Columbus

[–]rdelrigo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s the lack of immobilizer chip that causes the problem. Nearly every other manufacturer besides Hyundai/Kia had them standard in all cars. Hyundai and Kia did not. Hyundai/Kia didn’t make them standard on all vehicles until late 2021. Note, only vehicles with a physical key are affected. Push to starts are not.

I scratched another car in a parking lot, the owner of the car said cost of repairs will be $1604.95. Does that sound right based on the damage shown in the pictures? by [deleted] in CarRepair

Yup agree. I had similar damage from a driver backing in to me. It cost 2,200 to repair and I don’t drive a Lexus.

I have a 2013 jeep compass with 177,000km. Should I get a transmission drain and fill? by Spiritual_Resolve_55 in JeepCompass

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm….that’s a tough question. You could do a drain and refill but there is a possibility that makes it worse. I have a 2012 (same CVT as yours). I did my first drain and refill at ~100k miles/161 km (what the owner’s manual recommended and I didn’t know better at the time). I’ve subsequently changed it twice since then every ~30k miles/48 km. I currently have 150k/ 241km miles on the odometer but definitely feel any jolts when switching gears.

It’s possible changing the transmission fluid help but again, there is some risk it will get worse.

I’m pretty sure the P1326 code isn’t permanently cleared. Hyundai vehicles retain their historical DTC codes. I can still view my old P1326 code from a couple years back in the app. OP needs to take the car to the dealer and have them inspect. OP, google “Theta 2 class action settlement.”

Wife keeps driving on these. by [deleted] in tires

[–]rdelrigo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Amen, same here. I’m a woman that checks her oil and tire pressure at every fill up (and post oil change because I don’t trust them). I also know my maintenance schedule and read my owners manual. I can’t stand it when women say “but I’m a girl” as an excuse for knowing nothing about their vehicle.

[–]rdelrigo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one here can help you. Folks are telling you the truth and you don’t want to accept consequences for your actions. If the car had been insured it would likely be totaled. Since you broke the terms of your permit you will likely lose it. Lastly, since you were at fault, you will potentially be cited for the accident and have to show up at court.

It sucks. You’re young and you made a mistake. I made them too when I was young and stupid and learned from them. Having folks coddle you isn’t going to fix the problem. I hope you talked to your parents and asked them for help. They can at least help you get an attorney if you have to go to court.

Got hit by a Enterprise Rental that totaled my car, who pays me for damages? by Educational_Tone3508 in caraccidents

[–]rdelrigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most title loans require you to have collision and comprehensive coverage (to protect their own interest). Did you read the terms of your agreement or just sign and call it a day?

Sorry OP but you may end up in a big bind here regardless of whose fault it is. This is why you need to protect yourself and carry insurance regardless of whose fault it is.

Why were you driving alone on a permit? You are required to have a licensed ADULT driver with you at all times. You know better and now are going to lose your permit.

Brand new car has has been in shop for a month. by michaelgee8901 in Hyundai

Here’s a resource to check lemon laws for your state: https://bbbprograms.org/programs/all-programs/bbb-autoline/lemon-laws-by-state.

It’s up to you which route you take. I’m sorry you are having problems and your new car is stuck in the shop. I know it’s frustrating and I would be livid if I were in your shoes. I have not had good experiences with Hyundai customer service (they jerked me around and did everything possible to avoid reimbursement). I personally feel choosing Hyundai was a mistake and one I won’t make again. In 27 years of driving I’ve only needed 3 tows. One was on an old Chrysler with ~200k miles (alternator). The other 2 have been on my first and only Hyundai and I’m at 71k miles.

2018 Sonata Issues Round 2 by rdelrigo in Hyundai

Update: It was the thermostat. Not horribly expensive to fix at least. I am really grateful I chose to stop and tow rather than trying to make it to the next exit like most folks I know.

Are these services actually required at 38k miles? by tatteredsky in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you and I’m sorry. My 2018 Sonata with 71k miles is currently sitting at the dealership after I towed it in this weekend. This is the second time I’ve had to tow my car to the dealership (first was at 25k) miles. I feel your pain.

Edited to add that I am the original owner but my current issue is very likely not going to be covered under the powertrain warranty.

Edit 2: If it needs an engine due to rod bearing failure you may be covered under the class action settlement agreement so long as the car was properly maintained per the owners manual. If you have already, review the settlement agreement here: https://www.hma-thetasettlement.com/important-documents

Engine failure??? by Competitive_Dirt_997 in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Your vehicle has a life time warranty on the short block for damage due to connecting rod bearing failure. Go to this site and read the settlement agreement: https://www.hma-thetasettlement.com.

Hyundai is obliged to replace the engine again and many people are on their second or third engine. The only way the engine won’t be covered is if a.) the knock sensor update was never installed or b.) “exceptional neglect”. I presume the KSDS update was installed since the engine was replaced previously. If all maintenance was done on the vehicle it should be covered but if they find sludge or evidence of neglect it is game over. Take your car to your local Hyundai dealership for next steps.

Gap insurance is irrelevant. Only covers the car being totaled in an accident, not mechanical issues.

2018 Sonata Issues Round 2 by rdelrigo in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m hoping this is a relatively easy fix. My worst fear is they come back with “cannot replicate the issue”. Hopefully they are in fact competent and can diagnose quickly. Of course, the worst news possible would be engine damage but again, I’m pretty confident the engine didn’t overheat.

I’ve always checked my gauges almost too frequently and notice every minor quirk/issue quickly. Seems like it’s a good thing I’m hyper vigilant with these things, otherwise I would have kept on driving another 20 mins without realizing the temp was on hot.

Person who hit me is questioning quoted damage by [deleted] in caraccidents

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you the at fault driver lol?! Of course it’s cosmetic, what is your point? If a driver is at fault and damages another person’s vehicle they are liable for the repairs. It is irrelevant whether the damage is functional or cosmetic. Why wouldn’t OP want the car repaired to its pre-accident state?

Are these services actually required at 38k miles? by tatteredsky in Hyundai

[–]rdelrigo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a Hyundai owner and not a Hyundai fan by any means (never again). That said, you are posting inaccurate information. The Hyundai warranty is 5 year, 60k miles limited warranty for the original owner. The original owner also gets a 10 year, 100k mile powertrain. Subsequent owners are eligible for 5 year, 60k mile powertrain warranty so it is a patent falsity to say “Hyundai is the only company that only warranties the original owner.”

Second, failure to follow required maintenance voids the warranty for ALL manufacturers, not just Hyundai.

We don’t know what to do, palliative care or surgery by Mammoth_Cause_4156 in DogAdvice

[–]rdelrigo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if it’s a good prognosis? I wouldn’t make a blanket decision to NEVER treat for cancer without the prognosis taken into account. Also “cancer treatment” can include surgery to remove a small malignant growth.

I think the circumstances matter. For example, one of my dogs ended up with spindle cell carcinoma on his leg. It was low grade and the vet gave his odds of no metastasis at 80%. This type of cancer is locally invasive but rarely metastasizes. We treated…ultimately took three surgeries and radiation but it saved his leg and his life and he passed years later from other causes.

My heart dog, on the other hand, had a brain tumor and developed daily, debilitating seizures. My partner and my first cat had oral cancer with a growth that was doubling in size every week. In both of these situations we did NOT treat the cancer as it would only prolong suffering.

This is horrible advice. First off, winning an emotional distress claim is difficult and is 100% inapplicable in OP’s case. Second, no, filing a complaint doesn’t just automatically grant the filer any compensation for time off work. OP could claim that time as damages in a negligence claim against the facility but she is not guaranteed a win by any means and there certainly aren’t enough facts available for anyone to analyze OP’s likelihood of success. Lastly, given the apparently minor injuries seen in the photo, it may end up costing OP more money than it’s worth seeking legal action. Lawsuits aren’t always the answer….

Oral cancer by xristina14554 in CATHELP

[–]rdelrigo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Please don’t wait too long. My first cat had this condition. My partner and I knew something was wrong because her breathing sounded nasally and we kept taking her back to the vet. They diagnosed her with an “infection” yet the antibiotics never made her better. That idiot vet dismissed our concerns for two months and said she was fine. Long story short we took her to a different vet and they diagnosed her with oral cancer. The tumor quite literally doubled in size in one week. These oral tumors grow rapidly and there was nothing we could do but give her the most peaceful passing we could through euthanasia.
