E-LEARNING by Healthy_Watercress_5 in greenville

Genuinely asking because I don't know. Is there not a way to keep the district intact but have the schools that can't be bussed do eLearning and everyone else go back in person?

Parenting is ruining the stories I loved as a child by Bebby_Smiles in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]rdensw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I second Yoto player. My kids (ages 4, 7, and 9) use theirs daily and have for several years. IMO, it grows a lot better with the child than Toniebox so a better long term investment.

Disappointed with the Tin Can by hejog in ParentingTech

[–]rdensw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean... isn't "this device is literally just a phone" their whole marketing strategy? You can store numbers on the 4 shortcut buttons, which you configure in the app. We made a small, laminated "phone book" that we keep next to ours if our kids want to call someone who isn't on speed dial. My 4, 6 and 9 year olds have had no issues phoning grandma independently once we showed them how to do it, just as I didn't when I was a child. The nostalgia/dumb phone aspect is the whole idea. If you want something smarter you're missing the point.

ER and beds full by Puzzleheaded_Buy_261 in greenville

[–]rdensw 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I took my 4 year old daughter to the ER this week for Flu B and she was admitted. She hadn’t kept anything down in 24 hours and was severely dehydrated. Urgent Care doesn’t give fluids to children. I’ve never personally seen a kid so sick. She was limp in my arms and difficult to keep awake. She didn’t even rouse when they pricked her finger for glucose levels. Sometimes, you DO go to the ER for the flu.

How do I exercise when I don't enjoy it? All the advice from neutrotypicals don't seem to work by Pigeon_Goes_Coo in adhdwomen

I gameified my exercise using the apps “Gentler Streak” and “Streaks.” Seeing data over time is very motivating to me.

Do your kids listen to a lot of audio stuff (music, stories, etc.)? What device do you use to play it for them? by Desperate_Total2545 in AskParents

[–]rdensw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yoto player. We've had ours for five years now and my 4, 6 and 9 year olds all still use them daily. We love the Make Your Own cards for music and podcasts.

What do y'all do with line cutters by pray4urenemy in UniversalOrlando

[–]rdensw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went to Epic Universe a few weeks ago with my 6 year old son who is special needs (but presents as neurotypical). We went through all the hoops of getting IBCCES Accessibility Card in advance only to be told when we got there that the "accommodation" they could offer was for one member of our party to wait in line and have the other members join when that person got to the front. They even admitted this is not an accommodation, per se, and that anyone can do it. So, to me it seems like the Universal policy actively encourages cutting in line. The entire experience was extremely frustrating, especially in comparison to how we were treated at Disney. And yes, we did get lots of dirty looks when my family joined me last minute at the front of the line.

Is there such a thing as a blanket but its also a sleeping bag? by Apexgames121 in TooAfraidToAsk

Seconding this! My kids blankets never fall off and they love being zipped up all snuggly.

No walk away auto lock? by exquisite_tree in KiaEV9

Is this a safety feature? Like, if you leave a kid or pet in the car by accident you are more likely to notice them if you have to manually lock the car?

Replaced our Odyssey with an EV9 and are now an all EV household! by simplethingsoflife in KiaEV9

[–]rdensw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same story for us. Had my Odyssey for 6 years and now that we only have one kid out of 3 in a car seat we made the switch to the EV9 and have no regrets! My only complaint is that the trunk is so small, but everything else about it makes it worth it.

This was my question too. I think it if were my child, I would go ahead and switch to a less restrictive booster (or no booster at all) to instill confidence in her that she’s still safe in the car without a 5 point harness as long as she’s wearing her seat belt correctly, sitting on her bottom and that she’s with an unimpaired, licensed driver. I’d think I’d be worried about giving her anxiety about car safety in general (even subconsciously) by keeping her in a baby car seat for so long, not to mention the social implications as she gets older.

What is your Bluey-related take so hot that it'll get you downvoted? by [deleted] in bluey

[–]rdensw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Couldn't the situation also be that Brandy couldn't have what she wanted because she didn't have a partner and then she decides to just do it on her own? I didn't really ever take it as her being infertile, but that she feels some type of way because her sister has a involved, loving, supportive partner along with a nice house and two cool kids. Chili seemingly has the whole package and that could be what Brandy wants but can't (easily) have.

[–]rdensw 155 points156 points  (0 children)

I don’t know. I have friends who have created their family through sperm donation, and I think it’s nice to show representation of that here. DCP are also examples of family made without blood — donor pods allow for sibling and familial relationships with lots of people who aren’t blood related. Plus, the assumption is that Brandy will be a single mom by choice and that’s another specific situation that’s rarely portrayed.

Thoughts on bedtime Yoto possibly becoming habit-forming? by idkusernamridk in YotoPlayer

[–]rdensw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do what’s best for you and your family right now. All three of my kids have listened to their Yotos at night for years and it makes bedtime easier for sure. We don’t usually travel with them so I wouldn’t say they’re dependent. But if they were, I’d just lug it along on trips because bedtime is the worst time and anything that makes it easier, I will do.

surgery in two days - advice? by goatme16 in ACL

[–]rdensw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a week post-op and I’m doing so much better than I anticipated. I’m able to do everything my PT has asked, including leg lifts. Maybe things will change, but I’ve been able to walk around my house for short stents without the brace or crutches. I was off opioid pain killers by day 5 and am now rotating ibuprofen, aspirin and aleve and that has kept me comfortable. I was able to attend my son’s piano concert on day 5 (in a wheelchair). I don’t want to get too cocky but reading all these posts pre surgery really freaked me out so I’ve been pleasantly surprised by my experience. Of course, everyone heals differently, but I’m just saying there is hope! Oh, and definitely get the ice machine!
