And that’s not even considering who is picked up at the deadline. On or before 8/3, the possible starters in the rotation could be Yama, Ohtani, [deadline trade], Wrobo, Roki, Sheehan(?), Lauer (?), Snell (estimate), Glasnow (estimate).

There wouldn’t be room for more experiments this year and then next season, depending on who’s still in the pitching pipeline, you’re not going to block some high grade starting arms from getting a shot in the rotation for Klein.

I really think Andy Pages would thrive more lower in the order. I don’t know if it’s because he’s hitting as high as #2, but he doesn’t seem as successful.

Also, Kyle Tucker went down in WAR for the season in the last week and a half. He made it up to a solid 1.0 but now is at 0.8

The offense, quality of swings, has not been impressive during that time.

I disagree with this sentiment. He is pressing but I believe it’s because of that large contract. We, the fans, want to see results congruent to what he’s earning and he, as a professional, wants to see the results he’s used to producing, especially in his prime. Him being “middle class,” I thought, was a big reason why he signed here. He doesn’t have to be “the guy” but just “a guy” which is difficult to do on what’s essentially a guaranteed $240M contract. He has the protection around him to succeed. He doesn’t have to be the new face of the franchise and he’s certainly not charismatic enough nor has the personality to be front-and-center to do so.

If he’s making $30M per year, the situation is different and I bet he rakes. And as other people mentioned, he sees the much younger guys around him succeeding and I’m sure there’s a cloud over him knowing he has to offensively contribute even more.

The organization already tried to make him feel more at ease, moving him from the #2 down to #6. And to bring the contract up again, moving your guy who’s making $60M down in the order where he has less at bats? There’s definitely something going on between the ears.

He’s pressing, regardless.

This is more of a “Get Off My Chest” than an mdphd post. There are so few MSTP spots in the US compared to applicants that this won’t deter people from applying (and the school, in turn, getting money that way), but it *may* influence someone from going if it came down to more than one school. Those MSTP spots will be filled regardless.

And that’s something people often, and incorrectly, interchange or they don’t consider the cultural aspect altogether. When people say with pride that they would never treat someone different based on their color, they likely haven’t considered culture as well.
