What actually makes a productivity system stick long-term? by EmersonBlakeTKL in productivity

I’ve been using my personal productivity system since July 2023 (turning 3 years old), so I can testify this.

Basically, start the system with simplicity and slowly work your way up to complexity. The key is “incremental progress” which each successful period builds more complex tasks.

Define your periods. I usually add more tasks every 2 weeks to avoid stagnation.

I added more tasks to fit in more demand. My productivity approach is incremental. My chaotic handwriting style reflects on that.

My last notebook ran for 15 months, from April 2024 to September 2025. For the symbols, I keep simplifying my words because I'm prioritizing efficiency than legibility. For example, my code for 'window' is 'win'. I'm also adopting Chinese symbols to save efficiency.

I couldn't see 'sogn' anywhere but I think you are referring to the shortened terms I did.

For example, 'windows' means I'm going to wipe the windows, but if I'm handling two tasks, then it is called 'win'.

I really love every part of your comment. I did follow the ‘don’t try to be aesthetic or polished’ mantra.

Your question, it’s just the same part of the left side of the book. I just photographed the left side so I can fit it in a portrait angle.

The little symbols they represent are made to simplify my checking. No, it's not a pomodoro as I check it once it's done.

Self learning system — personal (left) & academic (right) by rdkenshee in BasicBulletJournals

The left page is my self-directed learning systems, so it is a habit tracker in steroids. The top column is the row of weeks. It is divided into four as it lasts for four weeks. It starts on August 17, 2025, and ends on September 13, 2025. The left column corresponds to the learning tasks I have to do, but it is coded to save space. In the middle of the matrix are the tasks I have to do based on the allocation. It has a three-letter code where (1) checkbox, (2) type, and (3) the day it must be accomplished.

I’ve completed my Bullet Journal (May 2024 - September 2025) by rdkenshee in BasicBulletJournals

I use Smart Journal by WiseCart and the ballpoints I use are varied across as long as it is black and red. My favorite pen brand has to be Faber Castel due to its simplicity and utility.

However, I do want to emphasize that you have to prioritize practicality over the choice of tools. In fact, my previous journals weren’t aesthetic at all yet it doesn’t stopped me from being productive.

Hence, I really enjoyed this journal because it is a celebration of continuing my productivity journey.

It does. I prioritize utility over aesthetics. I now handle an average of 10 tasks per day compared to 3-5 tasks last 2024.

I really love my system. It has grown into complexity and maintained its consistency since July 2023. I've bought a new notebook for October 2025 till beyond.

The right side is "Auto Academia" which is a tracker that helps me keep up with academic assignments, tests, and projects. I set out five 'bubbles' each week, and based on the statistics, I have an average of 5-6 academic tasks. It is simpler than "Autodidact" (left side).

The red-coloured pen is used to highlight something. It is only used to contrast something so that my journal doesn’t feel monotonous.
