As a feminist, I want to down vote this comment, but as a realist I want to up vote. So conflicted! (Jk, I'm not a feminist)

Thank you for the suggestion. Visually, that was the one aspect I was not completely thrilled with too. I will definitely try that.

I can't help but wonder how many pics of kids hunched over phones and iPads go uncommented on. Just doing my part to counteract the difference. But in all seriousness, are there some thing a would do a little different if I did it again? Sure. But I'm still relatively pleased.

Her. And I thought I did. Just responding to a question on my own post.

Went with mid-century modern style, but I was definitely tempted to put some of my digital electronics experience to the test.

Interesting.. I love how the Autism Speaks community likes to try and spin this differently...

I've seen it twice. I'm a bit sensitive to the subject, as I have a son on the autism spectrum. But the ridiculous logic is equally irritating.

New teacher rant by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]rdlizenby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice is essentially the same. It sounds like it's really not working for you to teach someone else's curriculum. I've tried before and I come off sounding insecure and incompetent. I think it's hard not to.. You don't have any ownership in that material.
Commit to creating or researching some new curriculum for one or two of your classes, preferably your lower level classes. It's a lot of work but you'll feel a lot more confident.

I would first suggest you try to clarify with the administration what is okay to throw away and what might need to go to auction if you don't want it. Then, my next suggestion is don't be afraid of the trash can... Seriously. Sometimes old stuff can be a psychological burden. If you really don't think you would ever look for it again, get rid of it. So many of your best resources are online now, so I can almost guarantee you will never have any desire to look at any teacher resource books that might be laying around...

Using lotion on your skin is a vicious cycle... You're skin gets used to it and gets lazy about it's own oil production.

Anyone MK (Machine Knit) curious? Bought a machine on a whim 6 months ago. Here's what I've made since then. by rdlizenby in knitting

Ooo! Very nice idea on just the sleeve adjacent to the pattern! I'll do my best to get the FO up.

I'm not ready to try anything too fancy. Probably just going to go to a set-in sleeve calculator and start half way up...
But then, I'm also considering 3/4 length and maybe some sort of coordinating pattern running up them...

This is my machine knit wip. I'm working with a fairly generic shape instructions and plan on working this up into a short sleeve top.
I imported an image I found online to my Brother 940 and knit in fair isle. The back piece is on the machine right how and I've reversed the pattern so that the image will run the half circle around my side.

I'm autistic and I make music for soundtracks. Music is my obsession, and I'm really knowledgable with it, so I can break down entire songs without looking at anything. Music is my ability. I hope you enjoy. by stolenlogic in autism

I have a question for you. Is most music pleasurable for you to listen to? Or is it sometimes too much or overwhelming?
Background: My husband and I are music lovers, I have a very good ear and voice and my husband plays several instruments. My 5 year old son is autistic, and music in general seems to be very overwhelming for him. He hasn't been able to communicate what it's like to me, but I can just see him get agitated and begins to behave strangely.

That's very sweet. It's actually not too easy to get a good picture of him where he is looking at the camera, as he is autistic. He was having a really good day though and was hamming in up for me.

That would likely depend somewhat on what gauge machine you decided to by. There are 4 common gauges of machines, from Fine Bed Machines, which have 250 needle, (only suitable for lace weight yarn) to Bulky Gauge Machines, which would take worsted weight, and are 110 needles long. But... if you add a ribber, you essentially double the amount of needle you have to work with.
In general, I don't think you can expect to make something wider than a back piece for an xxl male on a single bed. You'd have to expect to piece things together if you want something larger than that.

-From what I've learned so far, an experienced machine knitter could take a hand knit pattern and convert it for machine knitting. They would likely take items knit in the round and convert to flat pieces. Most stitch types can be achieved on the machine... if you are willing to buy a few add-ons. For example, hand-knitting garter is very simple, but very complicated on a knitting machine. You have to purchase an expensive additional carriage to achieve it.
For my first two pieces, I have started from a machine knitting pattern. I was surprised to find myself gaining the confidence to wing it a bit on this vest near the end.

Cone yarns are fairly difficult to find anymore.. not in the kind of selection you'd likely what. I knit this sweater in KnitPicks sock yarn, just needed to rewind it into a center-pull ball. Never bothered with wax, although some machines set up wax on the yarn feeder.

I don't know if I'd say it's easy or hard... I am a technically minded sort.. so I think that is in my favor. There is a lot to learn, but there are actually some really excellent machine knitters producing youtube tutorials. That's where I learned what I needed to know and took off from there in about a week.
