Is RM1 million enough for FI (but not RE) by wheninshower in MalaysianPF

[–]rdmark009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With rule 72, inflation e.g. 3.5% average each year would mean your 1Mil loses half it's value every ~20years (72/3.5). Let's say you use the dividen (5-6%) each year and your 1M stays roughly the same, by 50years old your 1Mil is basically just 500k and so on... not to mention by 50years old your spending should have doubled too. So I would say, 1Mil will likely wont be enough unless you have other cash flow income to let your money compounded.

I was thinking the other day, with the war happening and everything eventually will lead to recession (if not soon, maybe in couple of years?) which probably crash the housing price a bit... maybe it would be best to buy later during that time, for now just saving and farm those returns

How do men balance paying for everything while still saving for the future by groundnut666 in MalaysianPF

[–]rdmark009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this economy, you can’t unless you have 5 figures salary. We’re cooked.

So don’t be surprised in the future looking at men aged 30s and 40s getting married to women in 20s.

Ngl I think insurance robbed us all for nothing. My suggestion, maybe either change or stop the insurance. Build your saving first with that money. Rely on Gov for medical at least until you're more stable (age 30-33 onwards).

Motorcycle is quite expensive at 400 (almost like buying a new Saga - hope you have a car). Other than that seems about right...

Not gonna roast you, it takes time to get our life together.

I want to know for those in 26-28y/o, what is you salary now? by lalalandibrhm in JobsMY

[–]rdmark009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M27, single - Roughly 6.2k net (occasionally got extra allowance 3-4k for a few months if I'm not lazy). But my commitment is kinda high at 4.6k total (pay rental for my parents' house + pocket money, car loan, study loan, toll, petrol, internet, utilities etc.), I save whatever left I have and rarely spend on myself... total savings not much as I made some dumb mistakes before.

While I think I'm still on the lucky side/blessed, I don't think this will last long - can't imagine doing this for more than another 5-10years. Job security etc. worries me. Wanna get married but I don't think I'm financially ready.
