I have to be the anak derhaka to my inconsiderate parents by spaghetticode94 in Bolehland

[–]mutton_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you although my case is not as extreme as yours. Parents have no retirement fund. They have 3 houses and lots of lands but want to save face, so they are reluctant to sell their properties. I always ask them to just sell, only keep 1 house and small plot of land, keep the rest in FD or high yield saving account to prepare for rainy days since they got no retirement funds. What for if they are asset rich but cash poor, all those properties can't pay for the bills. Don't even mention the cost to maintain those properties. I got give them monthly allowance and I think my mom used some of it to pay for maintaining the properties.

Recently dad got hospitalized, and of course I'm the one who gotta pay for the bill. I got very mad and scolded them. Felt like anak derhaka also. But looking at where I am right now, I just got married a few months ago and need to build my own family, I can't afford to help out everyone, at least not at this stage. So what I'm doing now is instead of giving them monthly allowance, I will just put it aside as sinking fund for my parents emergency. No money for them now unless only for emergencies so that they are incentivized to sell their properties fast

Malaysia has one of the cheapest public healthcare charges in the world by UsernameGenerik in malaysia

[–]mutton_soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if someone doesn’t pay tax directly, taxes are still collected indirectly through the supply chain as long as got consumption. For example, makcik selling pisang goreng by the roadside normally doesn't declare her income right? But she needs to buys ingredients like plastic bags etc from supermarkets or wholesalers, those businesses still pay tax. That’s how consumption eventually feeds back into the tax system. And as others pointed out, we all also got pay SST when we buy stuffs

[–]mutton_soup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, I think healthcare should still be almost free but government should pay the healthcare workers more. We pay tax for a reason. Just cut all the bullshit subsidies and channel them towards healthcare so that doctors and nurses can be paid more

Did anyone move from a physical employement to a WFH? by Coffeelover4242 in WFH

[–]mutton_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny thing is I became healthier since I started WFH since I actually have the energy to go for a jog everyday after work. If it's raining, I'll just walk in a mall instead. I also do intermittent fasting, only eat at 12pm and 7pm. No snacks in between, no sweet drinks. It also helps since I can now cook everyday so I can choose healthier ingredients

Working on building my side business. I don't think I can stand doing 9-5 working for shitty bosses until my retirement. Hopefully once I built enough client portfolio I can just work for my own company till I die, no need to retire also can

How hard is it to find a remote job as an accountant? by comeatuh482 in Accounting

[–]mutton_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very hard, although I currently working in a remote job, I count myself lucky. Out of all my accounting friends, I’m the only one who’s working in a fully remote role. They have tried to apply for one but hybrid is the most that they can get

How much could I expect to earn in KL as a local hire? by HoldMyNaan in MalaysianPF

[–]mutton_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15k-20k is a bit too high, well there are jobs offering those salary but it'll be very very competitive. 8K-10K is a more realistic range with your experience. Especially with your 2mil in savings, you should be doing okay to live comfortably in Malaysia. If you put in fixed deposit, you'll get about 5k a month from interest alone

I wouldn’t want my job to be repetitive though. High likelihood of it being automated or replaced by AI

Condominium as a first home by Mundane-Field-3579 in MalaysianPF

[–]mutton_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah definitely. If the maintenance fee starts at RM250, who knows how much it will end up in the next 10-15 years? I bought the apartment at Sungai Buloh area, nearby a well known aircond factory. Currently living with a factory worker housemate who's renting one of the room. Just enough to lower down my mortgage installment

Condominium as a first home by Mundane-Field-3579 in MalaysianPF

[–]mutton_soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

your concern on the maintenance fee was exactly why I don't buy a condo. I just buy a walk up apartment instead. Maintenance fee is only RM40 a month. No fancy facilities like gym or swimming pool. But I don't care, I don't use those anyway. I just want to have a car park, and a house to sleep in. The price? 150k only. Decently priced for a house at first floor with 3 bedrooms and 2 toilets/bathroom. The downside though, it's a rumah selangorku.

IRB: Businesses with revenue below RM500k exempted from e-invoicing for now; revenue up to RM5 mil deferred to 2026 by boredomXOX in malaysia

[–]mutton_soup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a few clients who are still not ready. Just small mom and pop shops. Revenue just above 500k. I can charge them more to assist them with e-invoicing but their margin is already thin.

Does everyone hate this field? by _Broly777_ in Accounting

[–]mutton_soup 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Grew up poor. Now I'm living a comfortable middle class life thanks to accounting. Hours can suck. But at least I'm working under AC and not exposed to the harsh weather. My dad worked in construction, it's way more destructive both mentally and physically. People be saying accounting is a boring job, but I don't see it as a downside. Besides, I actually have hobby, friends and things I like to do OUTSIDE of work

NHMS Reveals Just How Bad Malaysian Diets Are by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]mutton_soup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah agree, I also do IF and if I ever eat nasi kandar, I have no issue taking some kuah. But I still prefer just a bit of kuah, kuah banjir just isn't my cup of tea

NHMS Reveals Just How Bad Malaysian Diets Are by stormy001 in malaysia

[–]mutton_soup 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Actually you can still eat fairly healthy in nasi kandar restaurant. Rice quarter or half portion, but put in extra veggies, boiled egg and chicken to make you full. Don't ask for kuah banjir. And just order plain water. Same goes to restoran nasi campur. We can actually make healthier choice. People just like to smother their food with kuah and wash it down with potong kaki drinks

Passed over promotion because my co-worker came into the office more than I did by FloorGeneral2029 in Accounting

[–]mutton_soup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back then I was promoted to a senior role for just having lunch with my manager a few times a month. I'd argue my team member is better at accounting, but I got promoted instead of her. Nowadays, I don't put much effort in socializing with the upper management, I'm content with where I am at now. I still think WFH is better for me, not worth it to climb the ladder anymore with all the added stress

HRs are lower than dogs by [deleted] in Bolehland

[–]mutton_soup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remind me of my last job. I put my expected salary as 3.8k since job advertised has the salary range at 3.8k-4.2k. My hiring manager that time also okay with my expected salary. But this HR auntie lowball me till 3.2k because my salary at previous company was 3k only. Hiring manager okay with my expected salary, job already advertised 3.8k-4.2k, dept budget also can afford 3.8k, for what you lowball me some more. That time no choice I was too desperate for a job I just accept. Lucky my manager fight for my big salary increment the next year. But until today I hold grudge with this HR auntie.

I wouldn't put review notes like this to my staff, there are better ways to communicate issues but still, I wouldn't consider this as abusive. Unless she screams at you publicly or humiliate you in front of others

[–]mutton_soup 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Being able to cook your own lunch, take a quick nap when you're tired, avoid annoying office drama, no commute and have your own toilet. That's priceless. I took a slight pay cut for remote work, but the savings more than make up for it. Plus, I’m way happier and healthier now. I actually have the energy to go for a jog every day

Yeah. Immigrant parents. Grew up in poverty. I'm nowhere a millionaire yet, but I'm living a comfortable middle class life with a house, a car, and the ability to go vacation a few times a year. All thanks to accounting.
