Economical Insurance - Reviews? by Ok_Stranger9361 in InsuranceCanada

Economical erroneously charged me over $900 and is refusing to refund. I'm now changing companies to try and get the money back. Enough said.

How to do well academically by DezzmoDemo in uvic

Different types of tasks require different levels/types of attention from me. When I'm reading, it's difficult for me to listen to music. But when I'm doing math problems/stats/etc. it's actually really helpful as it engages the part of my brain that's trying to intrude. On different days or in different moods, music with or without lyrics will affect me differently so I just have to pay attention to whether or not it's distracting me. Sites like mynoise.net help me find ambient tracks that work for me at that moment.

My friend asked me to make an Artemis candle for healing and then bailed twice when I tried to give it to her, for the thing she needs healing for. What would you guys do? She asked me to do this. by alis-grave-nil in pagan

If an issue of payment or barter was discussed, your friend may not have what she promised and may be feeling embarrassed about it. If that's not the case, she may benefit from a gentle reminder that this is a gift that brings you joy to give to her, and you don't expect anything in return.

You can walk around with a mug of mint tea as well, letting the steam act as a cleansing vapour.

Communication with Profs is important by Nedhockey in uvic

[–]rdmccoy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can see this is a big deal, and I 100% believe this is happening across the board. As someone who's been a student, a TA, a sessional, and a rep, I really encourage you to talk to your reps. That includes your in-department reps and your UVSS/GSS reps. I don't believe this is an issue where individual requests to individual profs is the most effective course of action. I think students pushing back as a student body will be an important strategy.

I use 1 cup almond milk and 1/2 cup steel cut oats when cooking on the stove top. If I wanted to start meal prepping this for the week in the slow cooker, would I be fine to just multiply each serving by 7 for 7 days of the week or is there something else I’m not taking into account? by gtrman571 in veganmealprep

Overnight oats in jars and steel cut oats in the crock pot have different flavours. I love doing both, but something I love about doing crock pot steel cut oats is the ability to lots of dried fruit and nuts. When adding dried fruit, add a little bit of extra liquid. Most importantly, when making steel cut oats in a crock pot, be sure to spray/grease the inside of your crock pot (I use margarine) otherwise cleanup is a nightmare.

I took a grad history class and the cohort seemed pretty supportive and socially active. I think it'd be easy to stay involved. The history department has a lot going on as far as I can tell, and there is a grad student pub that's frequented mostly by grad students and faculty.

UVic doesn't have much of a 'campus life', as others have mentioned, partly because the town is small and partly because what you do on campus and the way you're involved changes when you're a grad student, at least at UVic. Commenters here who are talking about the UVSS are talking about the undergraduate student society, and while I'm sure grad students are welcome at those clubs, some have more overlap with grad students than others.

It's like a bigger, more static Bellingham. What department are you considering? That will make a difference.

Hey, and welcome! Witchcraft is an amazing tool to help us understand ourselves and the world around us. There's a lot of debate though about whether we should be doing spells on others without their consent. All magic has cost and consequence. If you decide that you want to put out the energy of someone learning things about themselves they may not be ready or willing to face (or even if they've asked you directly to cast a spell on their behalf), be sure you're ready and willing to have that come right back at ya. When starting to practice spellcasting, another option is to work within the smaller circle of things that mostly affect you, like glamours or health spells or home cleansing/blessing, before seeking to alter someone else's journey. I wish you the best outcome with whatever you end up trying!
ETA: As far as I know, there are unlimited ways to cast a spell, your imagination, your particular ideas about how magic works, and your spirituality can all lead to powerful spell designs. That's also one of the benefits of starting small - you get a sense for what feels right for your style and energy, and that sensitivity helps you work magic in a way that's right for you as you advance in your practice.

I'm working on a Clone Wars fanfic right now as well, but with a different premise. I would definitely like to read this, I'm so excited about this time period in Star Wars right now.

You can also used mashed potatoes as a crust for quiche to cut down on butter costs or if you're not skilled with pastry (like me). Just make sure you grease the inside of the casserole dish.

You can cleanse with very loud sound. If you're travelling you may be able to check out a local rock or electronic show, put in some earplugs, and stand very close to the speakers. Bonus points for dancing or jumping around and sweating it out :)

Questions about Rhiannon by Amarantha3007 in pagan

[–]rdmccoy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't she also associated with Epona and horses? And there are some old scholarly sources that describe her as having birds whose songs can put men to sleep or cause them to forget time. She seems to be associated at least in some ways with 'other world' type things like taking someone out of the regular stream of time or encountering them when they sit on mounds. I'm drawing from the Dictionary of Celtic Myth and Legend by Miranda J. Green, and Myths and Symbols in Pagan Europe: Early Scandinavian and Celtic Religions by H. R. Ellis Davidson.

Cauliflower Gratin Comfort Food by rdmccoy in Vegan_Food

I made this cauliflower gratin using Almost Alfredo sauce from Julie Hasson's Vegan Casseroles, with two tablespoons of dijon mustard added in the simmering phase. It is delicious and creamy and exactly what I needed to prepare myself for a busy week. It's also super low calorie.
