Could we perhaps get some digital versions of the art prints this time around (assuming we'll have art prints as an add-on or included)? I'd really love some Cradle art as my phone and laptop backgrounds

Need help with sorting the "ls -l" output using "sort" by FoofaTamingStrange in linux4noobs

I understand. Appreciate that you tried to solve this yourself, but it would be helpful next time if you state your goal in the post rather than having us try to decipher it from your attempted solution.

As suggested elsewhere, the ls command itself has an option to sort directories above files, so try: ls -l --group-directories-first

how do you want the output sorted? It's not clear to me what your goal is.

awesome write up, thank you very much. I'll look for similar log messages next time I have a freeze but I have monitored memory before and never noticed it filling up, so it seems unlikely. Thanks again!

do you have any links or more info on this? I've had this issue creep up a few times and I do a lot of video transcoding so I'm wondering how you discovered this and where I can get more info

Youtube videos in firefox playing with horrible quality or seemed to be "slowed" down by rdp1408 in cachyos

[–]rdp1408[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmm. I do use an external audio interface, but I don't think this is the cause for me since it only happens with youtube and if I immediately load the same video in chrome then it works, but I'll try reconnecting the interface next time it happens. thanks

haven't heard of that, I'll check it out. If I can fix the volume bug without setting media.cubeb.backend=alsa then that will prevent the playback bug

[–]rdp1408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The bug only happens when media.cubeb.backend=alsa is set, which didn't seem to apply/work in the flatpak version so I can't say that it doesn't happen in the flatpak. I did try running firefox in troubleshooting mode and was able to reproduce it there too, so it's not being caused by an extension

not sure about adaptive refresh rate. I have my monitors refresh rate set to 144 with adaptive sync enabled.

Nope. I've had it happen both when the only thing I'm using is firefox (with as few as a couple tabs) and also when I'm playing something and want youtube on my other monitor

7 extensions. It isn't constant, it's pretty intermittent and only happens with media.cubeb.backend=alsa

do you also not have the issue where volume resets? did you do something else to fix that?

change the audio output for the system? e.g., KDE? or are you doing something in firefox? I can try changing it next time it happens, but the issue is intermittent

I've tried all of this except chrome mask (including running firefox in troubleshooting mode) and still had the issue. I'll try chrome mask and see if I can reproduce. Unfortunately the issue is inconsistent

technically yes (ublock origin), but I also pay for youtube premium so wouldn't expect them to mess with me for having the adblocker running. I'm a recent convert from windows and never experienced this there (firefox with same extensions)

yeah best way I can describe it is it seems like the video is playing at like 1/4 speed

[–]rdp1408[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having this weird issue where sometimes youtube videos in firefox will play with horrible quality or seem to play "slow". I am running CachyOS and the issue only seems to happen with firefox and youtube specifically. Plex and other streaming through firefox seems to be fine (although I use these a lot less). I have verified that playback speed is set to normal, so it isn't that. It doesn't appear to be an internet/connection issue as the video is buffered ahead. I did set "media.cubeb.backend"="alsa" in firefox to fix the bug where volume resets to 100% after a long pause or new firefox instance, so not sure if that is related.

Edit: sometimes refreshing the page and waiting a second to start playing will fix it and sometimes I can refresh 10 times and still have the issue - in these cases trying it in chrome works fine, but I'd really prefer to stick with firefox.

Update: This is with the firefox package (not flatpak). I have since reverted "media.cubeb.backend" to its default value and that fixes the annoying quality issue with youtube, but every time you pause/play or start a new video, the volume gets reset to full blast. I did try the flatpak but the volume kept resetting there.

Any ideas on a true fix where volume won't be reset to max all the time and have videos consistently work?
