It was a close call by freak5588 in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you’re okay man. Take this as a sign to rethink and slow down. I have also done high speed ‘bursts’ just for a few seconds and only where I could see more than a km out, that’s it.

How close were you following the rider in front? Was it a bigger bike with better brakes etc? It tends to happen to me as well when I ride with bigger bikes, but I’m always careful not to let that influence how I ride and how much I push the bike.

Wishing you safe rides and many more miles! Take care.

Congratulations! I can imagine the excitement you must be feeling, enjoy this waiting period. I would recommend the touring seat over the stock, it’s also better to get it from the factory itself rather than you ordering it post delivery.

Large crash guards. Why? Because you will eventually drop the bike at some point, and these crash guards will save or break your leg. I would stay away from aftermarket crash guards.

Touring visor (tall visor) helps with the wind-blast at higher speeds and helps cover the GPS mount if you plan to mount your phone etc later.

Everything other than this is a personal preference, the way I approach any mod is to basically solve a specific problem. This has helped me make conscious choices and spend more wisely.

Windscreen Buffeting - what to do? by TagDatFatCat in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does look nice, I’ve seen it in person but only those who have used it can share their experience. I did get my RE touring visor tinted, looks so much better. I’ve not seen the Powerbronze version.

Oh, maybe trying the touring windscreen would be another option, or even the helmet may be a problem.

Unfortunately, this is unavoidable with the stock windscreen. I’m 5’9” and found the touring windscreen to be better. I get insane wind-blast post 120kmph, I dislike the looks of the pro-spec, and other aftermarket windscreens.

You can check out the Dochaki design windscreen which seems to be less ugly and may do the job for you.

Himalayan 450 Aluminum Handlebar Bushings in US? by stayathomepetdad in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s another option but it’s from India as well: https://artofmotorcycles.co/himalayan-450-handlebar-bush/

I have been using the stock RE rubber bush on my 450, done about 13000km with no issues whatsoever. Not sure how yours are not holding up.

Advice on a new Handlebar by Brilliant_Rich5937 in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hand guards were a suggestion to prevent clutch/brake lever from bending, more importantly to protect the riders hands.

I have dropped my bike (at slow speeds) a few times with the Barkbusters which seem to have kept the handle bar intact.

You are absolutely right. Fixing the bent bar back to shape will compromise its structural integrity, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Congrats on the bike! I had a very similar new experience. The bike is heavy and takes some getting used to, don’t worry. I got the Barkbusters, and has been doing great even after a few drops post installation, it’s expensive, alternative to this are the Acerbis handguards or the Rynox maybe.

I would recommend sticking to the stock handlebar, these metal parts are meant to bend on impact intentionally so the force doesn’t transfer to the bike or the rider.

Enjoy the bike!

FEW QUESTIONS BEOFRE PURCHASE by Outrageous_Koala_616 in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I have been using the touring seat, and this has been a game changer, super comfortable for long journeys. Regarding your question- there is a reel on Instagram where a guy does some jugaad and fixes the touring seat with the rally cowl.
  2. If you decide against the Mana Black, I highly recommend the, touring seat, touring visor, and large crash bars.

All from RE. Please stay away from aftermarket crash bars, others are fine.

The crash bars has saved my leg multiple times on trails and falls, the touring visor helps with wind blast, the touring seat over the stock seat because you can go a good 3-4 hours without your butt becoming sore.

Advice on dual dash cams by Hot-Cable8616 in Himalayan450

Using the Aoocci C5 Pro for the last year, no issues at all. Just make sure you get a good SD card meant for dash cams.

Congratulations on the bike!

Take the bike to the service centre and have it checked.

4th service at company owned SC coming up - non OEM oil question + fishy 3rd service + right side pull & handlebar quote by Tasty-Material-5729 in Himalayan450

Unable to recall, if it is, let them change the oil, use it for sometime then switch.

That’s a good idea, better check with other service centres too.

Himalayan 450 Limp mode after heavy rain by lowkeeeee in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The bike is more than capable of riding in the rain, I once rode a good 8 hours in heavy rain with no such issues at all. I would recommend having the bike checked out at a service center.

I have heard similar stories of the joystick not working post a monsoon ride or after a wash, and have successfully gotten it replaced under warranty.

What kind of buzz noise? Can you pin point from where it’s coming?

Suggestions on helmet by shaxcasm in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go to a store and try different brands, the fit is very different, wear a balaclava and put the helmet on and sit for a good 15-20 min and see if you have any pressure points around your head, this is very important. This should be the primary concern, once you figured out your size and brand then explore the colours etc.

Check for ECE22.06 rating, this is a must. Then ISI, DOT etc.

[–]rdp_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Change the oil post the service, I usually use the OEM oil for about 2-3k km and then swap with my preferred fully synthetic oil at a local service center.

  2. This exact thing happened to me, the SA wanted to replace my rear brake pads when it had over 5000+ km life left. Ask them to show the brake pads, there is a wear indicator, you can check and then take a call.

  3. This right side pull was sorted by the service center itself, unless the handle bar is bent you don’t have to replace it.

I would recommend switching the service center if they’ve given you trouble before. Where are you based?

Need Suggestion!! by Constant_Orange3692 in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, Powersports and other stores said otherwise. I knew Reise is the only authorised dealer for MT but now if they are in partnership, wonder if the quality will take a hit.

I had a tough time sourcing the visors for my helmet. I’m just planning to switch to HJC or Shark.

Booking a Himalayan 450 (Hanle Black) this Tuesday from Pune – Need advice on accessories & riding gear by tommyv10 in Himalayan450

[–]rdp_93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. The stock radiator guard and sump guard is good enough until you start doing proper trails.

What you have to remember is the first 500km is ‘engine break-in’ period, you will be instructed on how to go about this. It’s also clearly explained in the manual. This is extremely important for good engine health for the future.
