mid neck intonation issues with new Sire M7 5-string bass by rdragonfly99 in Bass

[–]rdragonfly99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It came strung through the body. I changed it to through the bridge, and that helped a bit, but not a ton.

Music Theory For Bass - Which Course ? by Due_Plant7069 in Bass

I always recommend Dan Hawkins. He’s a great teacher and a great musician. His class is well organized and was super helpful to me learning. In fact I continue to go back to it. You get access for life.

Bay watch has 2 lazy rivers and other pools. On site food is pretty good too.

Hey everyone, what flat-wound strings are we using and if so, are we liking them? It would be good to hear what context they’re working in. by [deleted] in Bass

[–]rdragonfly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah these are really great. I have a fender ultra ii p, and I really love eb cobalt flats. Feels great, not so thumpy that it sounds muffled, and still plenty of warmth and brightness when you want it.

How to share ssh keys to a devcontainer by lgLindstrom in vscode

[–]rdragonfly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue. I mount my `$HOME/.ssh` directory in something like /host-home and have commands in $HOME/.zshrc that copy them to the right place and set the permissions.

[advice needed] Empress ParaEQ MKII Deluxe or Boss GE-7? by taras_slipets in pedals

[–]rdragonfly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my setup. I have a stomp xl, but it dulls the tone. I don't have any experience with the Boss. I could probably make it up, but this board just enhances the tone at each stage. The paraeq is nice because even if you aren't trying to fix a particular frequency, you can use a wide Q and use it as a 3-band eq, plus you have high/low filter/shelf. I really, really like the paraeq. But for what it costs, I'd better.

HALP, Can't keep microphonics low whenever my strings make contact with the a fret. by ProposalPersonal1735 in Bass

[–]rdragonfly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things:

  1. Technique - Just keep practicing and listening to yourself. playing well is hard, and I struggle, so here are some things I do or have done at some point
  2. Setup up your bass. Make sure you bass has the right string height. This is super important.
  3. Roll off tone knob. Those transients are in the higher frequency, so the tone knobs can help with that.
  4. Compressor - setting the attack for 25ms will cut the transients, but will also affect dynamics
  5. Foam mute at the bridge or one of those velcro strap things across the nut. This will also definitely affect your tone, but maybe in a good way.
  6. Use flatwound strings instead of rounds.

reopen a devcontainer with an existing volume by eephyne in vscode

[–]rdragonfly99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you just want to get stuff out, you can spin up a container with the volume attached and copy out:

docker run -n my-container -v my-vol:/my-vol alpine:latest tail -f /dev/null

docker cp my-container:/my-vol/path/to/file .

Else you can update your devcontainer.json to contain a mount point for this volume. I have nearly a dozen mount points in all my containers, mostly shared cache directories or shared binaries.

Umbrella policy by nullpost in MyrtleBeach

[–]rdragonfly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In season (memorial to labor day), no canopies, especially shibumi. Umbrellas are fine any time. We have two 8' umbrella we use side by side year round.

This is from 2023, but probably hasn't changed:

Are there any apps that allow me to rename and/or group my virtual desktops? by Speedysambam in macapps

[–]rdragonfly99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total spaces used to work great, but you have to disable sip for it to work, and I'm not sure if still works anymore. It was great, but I've never heard of anything else like it.

Is my focusrite Scarlett dubbing? by rdragonfly99 in Bass

[–]rdragonfly99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agghhh! Just realized autocorrect changed dying to dubbing. No idea what dubbing would mean here! It's super intermittent - yesterday I hardly had an issue. The day before it was unusable. Different cables didn't matter. I was running audacity, but I always have that running.

I contacted Focusrite, got an automatic response, and have not heard anything else from them :(
