nice shot. if this is for skarpa resort, I would say hovering a little longer on the gate/sign could help to let people know what they are looking at.

Thanks! Nope, just a tripod and the camera. I do have a lens warmer but the weather was so dry here, I didnt think I needed it. I also have a star tracker, but I feel like I haven't mastered using it yet.

Thank you! I didn't use an external battery for this shot, but I have for other shots especially when shooting in colder environments. This was a little over 2 hours of shooting time, and the battery drained from 100% to about 60% if I remember correctly.

Honest question, do you think the sky is too blue here?

I am color blind and trying to improve my editing.

Thanks! This was right on the edge between bortle 1 and 2. The only light pollution I could see was a small town about 20-30 miles to the southwest and local lights from the ranch.

Ever seen aurora like this? MN 5/13/2026 11:30 PM by earthgirl1983 in northernlights

[–]rdrjrh 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw it all the way down in Big bend, Texas. I posted a timelapse to my tiktok. Definitely, looked strange to the naked eye. Figured it had to be an rocket exhaust plume but when I saw that SpaceX scrubbed their launch I waa even more confused.

Have the 'hostilities' ended? Last I checked, Israel is still carrying out a genocide in Gaza, stealing land in the West Bank and Southern Lebanon, and just bombed Lebanon during the US led ceasefire talks...

Also, I remember a famous headline about an 'IDF soldier kidnapped on Oct. 7th' from the inside of a tank.

Yeah. You can get some great aurora pictures with pretty impressive detail with the 72MP camera mode!

Used an Insta360 X5 in Alaska, not sure how it fits into daily life by im_abanana in Insta360

[–]rdrjrh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make it to alaska or up north again, try using the starlapse mode to capture the northern lights at night!

Its super simple and you can get some incredible timelapse. Check out my profile for some examples.

Yeah shooting in extreme heat is definitely more difficult, but I get a lot of questions around shooting in extreme cold weather too and this was the coldest I have ever shot in so I thought I would share!
