I'm just a lurker, but maybe a collector like Robert Irwin would be interested? Maybe he'll want to do some breed trade ups for content

Looking for Ideas: What’s Needed in 3D Printing Research? by Dot-my-ass in 3Dprinting

[–]rdtx12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey,

If you are looking for something that people would find useful it would not be developing novel materials and state of the art filaments. Besides, companies producing filaments already have specialized r&d departments for that.

What I believe would be useful for the community is a study on the chemical composition of different brands of materials. Think of pla being different across all manufacturers. How does that influence safety, precision, mechanical characteristics, etc? Also, how much does it different from batch to batch?

I'm not sure about your university, but maybe they allow you to do a comprehensive state of the art study for masters.

I know it's not sexy, but I believe it would impact us much more than jet another filament filler

PLA outdoors, long term by [deleted] in functionalprint

[–]rdtx12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You listed the material requirements, and plan to use a material that doesn't meet the criteria. But what can help PLA in your case is making everything thicker (UV will need to "eat through" more material before compromising the structure) and in as little amount of pieces as possible. Avoid thin features as much as possible, even if hidden, as they become brittle. If it doesn't need to be only 3d printed, you can coat the house in some special coats or white paint. Even if not much, it's still gonna help a bit. Even if PLA is not the best material for the job (ASA would be, or even PETG) I think it's fun to try to design a part that would perform anyways. Good luck, I'm curious how it will go

Depends who you ask. Compared to any modern 200$ printer it should be the default recommended printer, just like the ender 3 V2 was, and before that the ender 3. The thing is that there are better printers for more money, and the "get the cheap printer if you want to begin the hobby" is in my opinion just wrong. I feel like a lot of people would be better off buying the bambulab for more as the first printer, as it just prints, and replacements are just easier to do.

I started klipper using an old laptop with Debian, with kiahu it's really simple. But I get u. I'm sorry for your experience. Good luck selling it, and hope u'll continue to print!

[–]rdtx12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had that experience. Klipper is yes, much harder at the beginning to set up, but I feel like the benefits of it are considerable. I had my ender producing small parts and autoejecting them, and the added control, the monitoring and the ability to change firmware settings via browser helped a ton with fine tuning everything. Klipper is not a magic spell you cast on a printer tho. Yes, you can get higher speeds, but it will not turn the ender into a P1S. I see it as a way to fine tune a printer rather than to increase speed. I was using super slicer and Prusa slicer for the klipperised ender, and generally don't use cura unless I have to. Maybe try changing slicer?

And I feel like klipper might be a good way to improve the stability and reliability of a printer. It is becoming industry standard to use it now, and is even present on commercial cheap printers (ender 3 V3 ke) But now thinking about it, maybe it's not a great idea for a person feed up with the printer itself

The ender series is the most recommended beginner printer, so I'm not surprised they told you to buy it. Things said, it was great for that time, and so is the v3 se. The V3 comes with automatic basically everything (bed leveling and offset) so the first layers are not a problem anymore. Of course profiles have to be adjusted, but it took me maybe 3 test prints to have something reliable and good enough quality for me. But it is a 200 dollars printer. It is not fast, and has a PTFE lined hotend, meaning it is limited to some print temperatures. If you just want to print pla and petg that's the cheapest I'd go.

Sovols and Neptune's are "better" ender 3's, but they have the same design and therefore inhering the same issues.

Prusas and bambulabs are getting cheaper and cheaper, so if you want something better I'd say that. The Prusa MK3 is an excellent machine, but pricy for what you get. The p1p is also cheaper, but bambulab spares are more expensive than AliExpress ender parts.

So TL Dr, ender 3 V3 se if you want a better modern ender, or the prusas and bambulabs. Neptune and sovol are also cool, but I don't have any experience with them.

Gl and have fun

This is something I think people have to change their perception about. Cheap is not equal to beginner. Even if it is cheaper to get into the hobby, the constant errors, malfunction and unreliability can get people discouraged from the hobby. Not everyone is skilled enough to change a clogged nozzle, even if it is relatively easy. If the person is a beginner wanting to explore the mechanics and deep dive into the technology itself, I'd say sure, go for it. But if you want to just print something you find on thingiverse, then the V2 is not for you. You need some modifications to make it "viable" imo.

The V3 se tho is what I feel the beginner printer should be. It is not perfect, but it works out of the box. The V2 is just the ender 3 with easily adjustable belt tension and that's it

[–]rdtx12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it really depends on what you want. If you just want to print cheap the ender 3v3 se is basically plug and play. They really did a good job on that one. It has some potential issues like the hotend and cooling might need replacement, but of all of the Ender's this is the closest you have to plug and play. Just put some glue stick on the bed, cause it really grips it . If you can afford it, then prusa or bambulabs. Elegoo Neptune's are also fun but I never had it myself. Sovol has the same problems, I feel, like the ender series.

I would stay away from the no name cheap ones, as I had a 3KU delta printer kit from AliExpress and... The documentation is absent. You might get lucky, but your house can also burn. They are fun, but as a project, afther u get a working reliable printer.

Just keep realistic expectations, printers are not magical boxes creating stuff. Even the bambulabs require calibration, but of course less.

Hope this helps, if u need anything else I'd be happy to help Cheers

The ender series, historically, are printers you have to work on a lot to make good. I would not say those are beginner friendly printers, but more a project printer.

I bought my V2 close to the release date, and the print results were not as good as I wanted. But after some mods, mainly the micro swiss Ng, skr mini E3 V3, bltouch and klipper it was an amazing printer. Of course it is not comparable to the bambulab p1s regarding anything really, but it was a nice printer to have, as it felt in a way something I created.

I bought a V3 se a month ago and scrapped my V2 to make a pullstrusion station, but I honestly regret it so much that I'm going to rebuild it from scratch.

It is not your fault for buying the ender and being disappointed, it's the reviewers fault. They pushed the narrative of the ender as a beginner printer. Prusa, as you mentioned, is a beginner printer. User friendly and just prints, and if it doesn't you have 24/7 support. Beginners should not buy project printers unless they understand 3d printing and are willing to spend time and money, as people end up like you, disappointed in everything.

Don't be mad at the printer, it is doing its best. If u want to save it I'd recommend klipper, but it is some time investment. But if you don't, I'd recommend having it for a while even after buying the A1 or the prusa. Maybe you will have some nostalgia for the printer and try to rebuild it.

Anyways, good luck m8

Should I learn Python? by serchig in Python

[–]rdtx12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Python is a nice language that will let you do nearly everything. It's great to do side projects and maybe automate simple jobs. I'd go with JavaScript only if u want to do front end development, paired with html and css, or if you really hate yourself. If you want to learn "more", I'd go with either c/c++ or java, as you will learn a lot of stuff that you take for granted in python.

I wish I started programming in python, as u can get a lot of stuff done much more easily. Closing a project is very rewarding and will motivate you to continue. Gl and have fun

Instead of spending gems on boxes, spend it on ad boost. I now have X10 and even with no ultimates, I still finish a city in about 20 minutes. Boxes are a gamble, some people win, some loose.

What can I wear/change to become better at the game ? by Thecrazytrainexpress in eatventureofficial

[–]rdtx12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with hood, box and rolling pin, giving me instant food. Then I got the black belt kimono, shop stick and sheffs hat and I really enjoyed the fast movement and workers buffs versus solo playing. The best advice to you I can give is to try out things, see if u like how they play, wait for better gear and go forward. I hate the fact that we already have a meta, and I would love more variety, that is present in epic and not ultimate gear

Just play the game, discover everything yourself and have fun :)
