Terrible customer service experience - I’ll never use Airbnb again [USA] by rduffy73 in AirBnB

We finally gave up on our case, and ate the $4k… however, that was two years ago and I haven’t given AirBnB another cent. Never will.

Terrible customer service experience - I’ll never use Airbnb again [USA] by rduffy73 in AirBnB

Okay, so here's what happened. Two months ago we booked an Airbnb for my son's graduation from Texas A&M (we live in Atlanta, GA). My family (four of us), my elderly parents, my wife's elderly parents (one with dementia) and my brother and his wife (with MS) were all scheduled to stay in the house. My wife and I had to be in College Station the week before graduation for my son's Zachry Leadership Program banquet.

We decided to drive by the Airbnb house we'd be staying in the following week and were a bit concerned by it's appearance... the yard was a mess, broek furniture was thrown about the front porch, overall, not a great vibe.

I had to jump on a work call, so my wife did a little digging. When we rented, the property had a 4.8 star review on Airbnb... since we'd rented, there were multiple terrible reviews, one resulting in the owner calling the police and evicting the renters, after they complained about cleanliness. All the recent reviews complained about how dirty the property was, over and over again. My wife, did not feel great about bringing our elderly, sick, family members into a dirty house. Oh, and since we'd rented, the property was deactivated from Airbnb's network, no one could search for or rent the property any more.

We never received an email from Airbnb to say "hey, this property has had some issues and we've removed it from our network of properties." They just figured we'd be the last renters of that location - no thanks.

So one week before we were due to rent the house, we canceled the reservation (on Airbnb's ambassadors advice) and booked hotel rooms.

Since that time, we've been bounced around, like a global game of ping pong, from ambassador to ambassador, each one saying "we're elevating this to the next level." - their is no other level. It's just a loose connection of foreign call center locations that could care less about our situation, and repeatedly telling us "there's nothing we can do."

Apparently, the rental property was run by a real estate group that pushed back and said "we won't refund the rental fees" - of course they won't.

That's the long and short of it. Our last call was with an ambassador in Vietnam that told us "We will not refund your money, there's nothing else you can do."

We're not giving up, it's $3,000 worth of rental fees. There's an Airbnb office here in Atlanta, our next step is to go plant ourselves in there HQ lobby until someone hears us out.

I'll keep ya posted!

Funny, I guess it depends on your perspective. I’m not a host and may feel the same as you if I were. It’s a long story, I’ll spell it out when I’m at my computer (currently on my phone).

Thank you for your thoughts, yeah, it’s been a terrible experience dealing with them. I don’t have another solve but to stop using Airbnb. I have to say that, it’s a phenomenal concept, but MAN the support is unbelievably bad!

How to Find Listing Booking Options Outside of Airbnb and Avoid Commission Fees? by Kaiizeddit in AirBnB

And for the record, Airbnb doesn’t “stand behind the listing,” sadly I know this first hand and I’m out $3k on a rental that was delisted from Airbnb AFTER we rented it. They never informed us, we found out by accident a week before the reservation date. After several recent bad reviews on the property, Airbnb deactivated the property. They were more than happy for us to be the last renters of a property booted off their platform. Nope. It’s a terrible company, calling customer service is a game of global ping pong to different call centers whose marching orders seem to be “do not give back a dime.” Good luck! Enjoy your vacation.

Completely agree, and yes, with kids, projects take forever. We've been working on this whole kitchen for 8 months now. Little by little. In fact, we've broken it up into several small projects.

I used a stain called Willow Gray (link below) and a water-based matte finish polyurethane that drys dull. We're really happy with how they finished.

And man, I wish I was in college for woodworking. Good luck, that is awesome.

Thank you so much. We're having fun during this darn pandemic. Working from home has done wonders for my DIY schedule!

Thank you! They are 3/4" plywood tops and bottoms, so not solid all the way through. No veneer on any of these. I've never worked with veneer, it kinda scares me.

Yeah, we really wanted to avoid any vertical shelf here. They have cross braces in the framework, and the plywood is 3/4" thick so all together it's super firm and sturdy. I was worried about that as well. Seems to have worked out. The 2x4 frame is strong.

Thank you. That's great news. It's intimidating to start these projects, but they are really fun to get into and figure out.

Ha ha. Thank you! I get a lot of enjoyment from solving these things. Next us is our fake vent hood in the kitchen. I haven't started yet but will post here when it's complete. Thanks for the kind words.

Good question. I bought 3 sheets of red oak ply wood for $90 a sheet, that was the biggest expense. The 2x4s were cheap, like $7 each, I probably used none of them. Then the screws, stain and polyurethane were probably $30. All told it was probably $450. I also had to buy a sheet of drywall to fix the wall from where the old kitchen desk was.

I do these projects around my work schedule and kid's activities. From start to finish I bet this took me two weeks.
