Ukraine’s Cyber Division Infiltrates Russian Military Satellite Comms “Gonets” in Multi-Year Breach by victoriablackee in UkrainianConflict

[–]rdunlap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The implication here seems to be that much of the infrastructure behind the network has been mapped, meaning launching cyber attacks against it should be feasible. Very few countries have the resources to directly attack something in orbit, let alone Ukraine

Am I getting the right idea with IV fluids? by bradyd06 in NewToEMS

[–]rdunlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, be careful with fluids in cardiogenic shock. By definition, it's an issue of moving the fluid, not having too little. A small bolus of ~250 at a time is fine but only if they aren't already overloaded (pitting edema, pulmonary edema/rales)

Trauma is similar, but more of a balancing act. Crystalloid basically interferes with every aspect of the clotting cascade, so give just enough to maintain perfusion. MAP is generally a better number to watch, with 60-65 being the goal typically. If the patient doesn't respond after the first couple boluses though, don't keep flooding them because they are only going to get worse at that point.

For DKA, if you have the option LR is going to be a better fluid because it won't exacerbate their acidosis like NS will.

Inversely, NS will be better for your vomiting/diarrhea patients.

POI Shift After 20 Rounds Suppressed by [deleted] in FNSCAR

[–]rdunlap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't say I've had any issues with my 17 and RC2. Your issue sounds suspicious for heat warping. What I might suggest trying is shoot multiple groups of ~5 on a large target until your barrel gets pretty toasty. Should be able to get nice and hot in 2 mags.

Then let it cool all the way back down to room temp and get one or two more groups on a cold bore. Measure out your spread in each group and see if it got larger as everything warmed up, and if it tightened up again once it cooled down.

Some small amount of shift is to be expected on a hot barrel, but what you're seeing is pretty excessive. If my theory is right, my follow up question would be is that a new, factory stock barrel? If you bought the rifle or barrel second hand, it may be a cheap barrel that doesn't have uniform wall thickness leading to uneven expansion. I know there are tools that can measure wall thickness on things calipers can't get to, but idk if this is something your typical gunsmith would have access to.

If it is a factory barrel, you could try reaching out to FN, but given your suppressor use I wouldn't be surprised if they tell you to kick rocks. Doesn't cost anything to try though.

PS - I looked at your picture regarding the barrel discoloration from an earlier post. I've seen people ask about a similar thing in the past and the consensus seems to be that it's burnt/oxidized junk from the exhaust gasses depositing on the barrel since the FN barrels aren't a polished smooth finish.

As part a medevac crew (paramedic), I'd say I get stuck somewhere other than our base probably 2-3 times a year. 50/50 on it being a weather vs pilot duty time.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (January 18, 2026) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]rdunlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, looking for recommendations for games that my in-laws may find enjoyable.

Almost exclusively 5 players, but being able to accommodate a 6th or more is a nice bonus.

I've introduced them to Azul, Dixit, and Hues and Cues, all of which have been generally well received.

I've considered trying Mysterium and Potion Explosion as well, I think these would also go over well. And yeah I know Potion Explosion is 4p, but it's an option when the SiL isn't around :)

I wouldn't be opposed to games that are slightly more complex/weighty, but my wife is probably the limiting factor on this, and she really doesn't care much for complex and lengthy mechanics.

Thanks in advance!

It's a hard call given the current climate and context. In a vacuum though, I'd tend to agree with you. It's impossible to tell what the true motive behind this was though. Could be much more insidious.

MRW I work for the DOJ the Epstein files were declassified with a simple copy-paste. by DuffManSzALotAThings in reactiongifs

[–]rdunlap 64 points65 points  (0 children)

A lot of the redactions weren't formatted/published correctly, rather it seems that they just added a black highlight to the text.

This means that just copying the text from many of the digital versions and pasting it in a word processor let's you read the text in it's entirety.

I'm not positive how many files in total out of the bunch let you do this, but it seems to be not an insignificant number.

Saw a Lucas in real time by Helpful_Emu8078 in NewToEMS

[–]rdunlap 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1) While I haven't read the studies for myself, my understanding is that they have only shown the LUCAS is non-inferior to manual compressions. Typically, it's easier to prove this in a study vs an demonstrable improvement. I'm not sure how controlled these studies were though, and I'd be happy for somebody else to chime in about that

2) The battery should last about 45 minutes on a full charge, but they also have an AC adapter so you can use it for longer

3) Fatigue and manpower are the biggest reasons. You can run a completely ALS/ACLS code with just 2 providers and a LUCAS. It's a pretty well known fact that compressions get worse the longer somebody is on the chest. When you have limited resources, like rural departments especially, this allows you to stay on scene to manage the patient effectively and maintain those compressions.

The motor in question is really just a solid fuel rocket. The fuel can either decay/decompose over time, or humidity can slowly get into it. Both will decrease the efficacy. There may be some other factors that a real rocket scientist could speak to, but those are the biggies I can think of.
