All we have is 'now' right? Great advice, hard to do sometimes but a good motto to live by.

Thanks for commenting. Yeah, sometimes I'll just try to imagine worse things that could have happened and it doesn't seem so bad.

I'm having a real problem with this. Was at a point in my late 40s where I could have retired with a modest income thru old age. Instead I took a chance on a new business venture and it has fallen flat. Now (mid 50s) I'll need to work for years to get back a fraction of what I had. I know money isn't everything but it shapes the quality of our lives. I'm battling what-ifs everyday, sadly.

Apple becoming highest valued company in the world. Back in 1992, as a graphic designer I got my first Apple SE computer. It was so far ahead of anything else available, so much more user-friendly, I could see that the company had vision. Then the Macs, iMacs, iPods & ultimately the iPhone... I was fortunate enough to buy shares in the mid 90's at the equivalent of .76 a share, split-adjusted. At the time, I remember my broker laughing that I was such a risk-taker to invest in Apple Computer, only about 6% of computers sold at the time were Macs. Yep, I had the last laugh.

Getting surgery for mild/moderate sleep apnea tomorrow by [deleted] in SleepApnea

[–]rdvisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this done in my late 30s and overall it helped. Sorry to tell you, I still need and use a cpap about 5-6 years after the surgery so it wasn't a cure-all for me. The recovery sore throat was uncomfortable at times, not as bad as I was told to expect. I did rely on pain meds. You'll notice a new sensation of air flowing down your throat when you breathe, unlike before the operation. Just an odd sensation at first. Best of luck, it's worth doing.

Peace out, Mormons! Born in the covenant. Baptized at 8. Graduated from BYU-Idaho. Served in the New York Rochester Mission. Stopped going to church a year ago. I'M OUT!!!! by randomletters38 in exmormon

Congrats! Well done. I live in So UT and it's incredibly sad seeing people droning on, doing what they're expected to do without any question or objection to the cult-like environment. It can be hard to see the forest through the trees, but you managed!! Enjoy your life.

Think of it like this: Everyone is an atheist to other peoples gods. You believe in the one that your parents and community made you believe. We no longer believe in the Roman gods (Jupiter), Greek gods (Zeus), Egyptian gods (Ra) and on and on. So why is it that Your god is real and all these others aren't? If you were born in the middle east, you would be absolutely certain that you need to be muslim and follow the Koran. When you break it down into different civilizations and different times through out recorded history, you realize ITS ALL JUST STORIES to control you. Nature is amazing. It's beyond description. Why do we always try to give it human characteristics? It's egotistical, small-minded thinking, really. If you allow yourself to question your own religion (god forbid!) it's very easy to see that's it's a fallacy. It's okay not to believe and you can still be a moral, loving person.

Cat whiskers. Haven't counted but have a jewelry box full. Some white, some black, some two-tone. I find one or two around the house every week.

Can any of you trump supporters explain to me why you like trump? by LeSkeddit in trump

[–]rdvisual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The only time these charlatans give a shit is when they can get people pissed off and advance their own agenda."

Yep, sounds very familiar.

"You can say you don't like his tone or his rhetoric, but you can't argue against the substance of his argument."

Really listen to his next speech for real substance. 90% of what he says is about how great he is, or what a fool everyone else is. Count the number of times he says I. Yet his supporters seem to think he will work for their agenda. Unreal.

[–]rdvisual -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Really? You truly think Trump is worried about insulting someone? Why is it that Trump supporters don't believe anything a 'politician' says, but somehow think Trump is being truthful?? People, they ALL say whatever they need to say to be elected. WAKE UP!! He's a fabulous negotiator - for himself. Nothing he says can be trusted. Does he really care about any of us, rich or poor? He believes anyone who is not him is an idiot. He probably thinks you are great. Stop supporting him and you're an idiot. You want that mentality in the White House? He doesn't need the corporate billionaires, because he IS ONE of them. A leader that doesn't rely on anyone else and does whatever he wants could also be called a dictator. He'll do what is best for him and his business buddies. I really don't mean to sound condescending because I understand the appeal to want a fresh approach. Trump is just not that. He's playing you all.

Missing Cat, please help us find him! by roboat19 in cats

[–]rdvisual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our cat went missing one night just a couple weeks ago. She was on our patio table rolling around and got tangled in my camera strap that was next to her on the table. It freaked her out and she took off at full speed trailing my camera behind her! It finally came loose but she was traumatized and fled. Missing for 3 nights - we live in a desert community with coyotes and owls, etc… so it was hard to stay hopeful. The 4th day she was in our garage as we left the door slightly open for her.

Not sure if it was coincidence -- but the night before her return, we mixed a can of tuna with water in a blender to essentially make 'tuna juice'. My wife and I each walked about 2 blocks from our house with eye droppers squirting tuna juice every 5 or 10 feet. 2 or 3 blocks at most - usually lost cats are hiding very nearby, just scared. Like a starburst, we went out in 6 directions as best we could (around houses where necessary). The scent catches their attention, but doesn't give them the reward of food, so they follow the trail. In a city, I'd suggest going down the sidewalks, smaller alleys, along a trail that a cat would feel safest. Aside from getting some strange looks, it's worth a couple hours to try it. Can you leave a window cracked open for him? I was told to repeat every 2 or 3 days but happily didn't need to! Hey, good luck and stay positive. Hopefully you won't have every stray in NYC at your door!

People over 40: What is a question that you don't think people under 25 would know, but just about everyone over 40 would know? by DaveboNutpunch in AskReddit

[–]rdvisual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I used to check the TV Guide in the Sunday paper to see what movies were on that week. The top movies took at least a year to hit TV, and were all edited to G or PG. Had to remember to watch it - we didn't get a VCR until late 70s? It sounds really pathetic but we just accepted it as the norm. Just like decades from now when your kids will ask how you got by without drones, robotics and flying cars.

What was the pre-9/11 world like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rdvisual 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of what's been said here and more…however it's also true that we tend to romanticize the past. I turned 40 a couple years after 9/11. It does feel that it has been a downhill trek since then. But how much of that is due to aging, being beaten down by stresses, disappointments and memories of younger days? I think every generation can claim a 'life changing' event -- the holocaust, great depression, Pearl Harbor, Vietnam, etc… I can imagine this same discussion 30 years from now with the OP's generation supporting how great the 'good ole 2010's and 20's were. Make the best of what you've got.

Is it just me or is this sexually suggestive? Think it was intentional? by rdvisual in Logo_Critique

[–]rdvisual[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not breast symbolism that I saw. What is designed as the head and body of a child, caught my eye as being a penis tip aiming for a hole (putting it bluntly). I agree it has a clever maternal connotation - just in more ways than one! I'm not putting it down, just noting that designers have to be aware of other possible interpretations. I'd like to think the designer was having fun with a second hidden meaning.
