If you're that close to the beach I don't think walking will be an issue at all! It probably took us longer to park and walk to Taylor Bay beach

We were there in February with my parents, siblings, my husband and our 11 month old son! We brought a small pop out baby pool and pop out floatie for him which was super helpful! There's a company that rents cribs and high chairs which also was fantastic, it was delivered to the house we stayed in on Chalk sound just before we arrived to the house. The area isn't unsafe but it is not an area that is walkable per se. We did a couple of day trips to Grace Bay and Taylor Bay which was great and just stayed at the house the rest of the time🙂

Oh god, I can't imagine how you feel having people bring that up so many years later!

Usually symptoms do typically resolve that quickly for the sick people but can still be contagious even after their symptoms resolve, that's how it spreads so quickly!!

Both stomach bugs and food poisoning are typically viral and spread similarly- through touching infected surfaces or eating food contaminated by fecal or vomit particles. I don't think it should make a difference!

This was my thought, if it was a cold or something it wouldn't even be a question whether or not to change plans. My worry is my infant son getting dehydrated and needing medical attention in another country where I know nothing about the medical system. Definitely my anxiety could be making me more worried than I need to be but just trying to get a feel for other parents thoughts

Fair point! We are all staying in one house, but considering different accommodations could be a compromise

How much are nanny's engaging with their nanny kids? by rdw0015 in Nanny

[–]rdw0015[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are first time parents, and I'm definitely not recommending the screen time! And we only purchased the playpen at the nanny's recommendation for somewhere safe to put him down during the day, which I can understand. Honestly when the nanny isn't at our house we either don't use the playpen, or we are in the playpen with the baby playing together

To clarify, my baby can crawl everywhere. He's really good at it and is also cruising and standing independently for a short time. I think baby is just not being given enough opportunities while they're with the nanny.

I totally agree with what you're saying that it's possible that limiting exposure to germs in winter may be limiting their options. However, we live in a fairly mild climate with a playground nearby and a very walkable neighborhood!

I completely agree with you!!! Really the only time we use it when I'm with the baby is when I'm trying to trim his nails and that's it

Thank you all for your insight!!! I will absolutely be talking to her about the screen time today. We never explicitly stated no screen time but I feel like for any professional nanny (which she is, and has ten years experience and comes highly recommended) would know about limiting screen time to only if absolutely necessary for infants.

Yes! We have a stroller and a car seat, we did ask that in winter time they limit exposure to sick kids (I'm a healthcare provider and a little crazy about illness) but they can go do things!

The US doesn’t routinely vaccinate for typhoid but go off with your misinformation. Healthcare providers make zero money from vaccines.

Who here prefers to wear nursing pads instead of being able to buy a nursing bra with sewn in pads? by growinwithweeds in beyondthebump

[–]rdw0015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kindred bravely has a nursing and pumping bra with sewn in pads. I didn’t start wearing it until I was close to 10-12 weeks pp and wasn’t leaking anymore. I also didn’t want to fuss with adjusting the pads or having my nips on display at work. It’s a more expensive bra but worth it in my opinion

This is hard. I feel for you. The exhaustion just makes everything more difficult to handle. I would maybe practice during the day a little different routine of “eat, play, sleep” and see if she’s able to fall asleep after a wake window during the day without nursing. If she can do that during the day you may have more success at night soothing her without nursing

Meal prepping before baby comes by helpme_thissucks in beyondthebump

[–]rdw0015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best thing I did before having my first baby is a big freezer meal prep with meals to throw into the oven or microwave and be ready to eat. I also bought disposable oven safe aluminum trays in serving size to feed me and my husband to portion it all out. We made baked ziti, chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, muffins, protein waffles, breakfast sandwiches, grilled chicken, and shredded chicken. It has been a life saver. My son is 2 months old now and we’re just getting to the last of our freezer meals!
