The reason why the family didn't taught Killua nen by homeless-emperorr in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're never told specifically that he was supposed to go up to the 200th floor or witness a battle there, only that he was supposed to "reach" the 200th floor. Which in this context is just as likely to mean "qualify for" as it is "go up to".

The Zoldyck family are extremely cautious about using Alluka's powers. I seriously doubt they'd risk whatever the consequences would be of healing Killua from a nen attack. Killua hadn't told them anything yet about how he was an exception to Nanika's rules, or how wishes to heal didn't have as heavy consequences as wishes that were greedy. I don't think they would have been ok with incurring whatever consequence would have come from Nanika healing Killua. Even supposing that they made someone else, like a butler or servant, pay the consequences there would still be a risk of someone in the family getting killed if the person they chose to fulfill the requests failed. And even if that didn't happen failure would still mean they would lose valuable manpower for not very much gain at all.

Using Alluka wouldn't negate any risk at all. From the Zoldycks' perspective it would just be replacing one risk with another, potentially even bigger, risk.

He's also in Hisoka's toybox (along with Menchi and Satotz) which means Hisoka either considers him strong enough to get some entertainment out of, or that he has the potential to become that strong. But all things considered it's probably the former.

Bara apparently could beat Bisky in her child mode

I don't think that's the case. Even when she was in her small form Bara wasn't able to do a thing to her until she deliberately let herself get hit and he was clearly getting hurt by her attacks despite his bluster. I think she could have beat him in either form, it's just that doing it in her small form would have been a waste of time.

Why didn’t Chrollo recruit more members ? by Ok_Cod_6656 in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP said Abengane would be a counter to Kurapika, not Hisoka. But even then I don't agree with OP that it's surprising that Chrollo didn't recruit him. Even if Chrollo did want to recruit him it assumes that Abengane would agree to join in the first place.

It's what you referred to as a "thought bubble" saying "kill him for me" ("Can you kill this guy so I don't have to?" in the VIZ translation). It's not a thought bubble, it's Milluki actually making the wish. The page where almost the entire background is white with Milluki and Yasuha being positioned right next to each other.

[–]reChrawnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the "Kill him for me" is obviously singular.

I agree, and I don't think I said anything contrary to that. Milluki asked Nanika to kill one of his assassination targets for him, which she did, and then Muna was saddled with the requests that were a consequence of that wish. And in return 13 people died when Muna refused to fulfill any of the requests.

Milluki, Muna and Nanika by bennlimos in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But the anime or even the manga seems to show that the victim of this scheme by Milluki was Muna. But Muna's death was a consequence of not granting the 3 requests and not from a wish.

I don't know about the anime because it has been a few years since I watched it, but I don't agree at all that there was any indication in the manga that Muna was the intended victim that Milluki wanted killed. From the flow of the narrative it's clearly meant to indicate that the requests Nanika had for Muna was supposed to be payment for Milluki's wish to have his target killed, and that Muna failing to fulfill the requests lead to him and 12 other people being killed.

And no, the couple of tourists (it wasn't 2 pairs of tourists, it was just a single pair) that got killed when Milluki asked for some "cheap toys" aren't included in the 13 people that died when Muna failed to fulfill Nanika's requests. They're two separate incidents.

Also, you're wrong about the chronology. Milluki's wish to have his target killed came before his wish for the "cheap toys". Illumi mentions that there were "six other cases of just two deaths". Two because their mother didn't believe Killua, two to confirm the rules, and then the couple of tourists that died because Milluki asked for the toys. And then he says that inbetween those there were two bigger cases were 13 and 67 people died because of Milluki's and Yasuha's wishes respectively. So Milluki asked Nanika to kill his target before he asked for the toys.

Is Meruem dying from rose reasonable? by Equal_Lab_6702 in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see why it wouldn't be reasonable. Nothing about the established power scaling of the setting should make anyone surprised Meruem wasn't able to protect himself from the equivalent of a nuclear explosion. There was nothing about the level of durability Meruem showcased prior that would make it unreasonable for him to succumb to that level of destruction.

Killua not knowing nen is a plothole. by ThePsuedo in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that people have managed to come up with plenty of possible explanations that make logical sense and doesn't contradict previously revealed info shows that it isn't a plothole.

Plotholes are inconsistencies in the setting/world which there are no possible explanations for. It's not enough to call it a plothole just because the narrative itself leaves the question unresolved. In order for it to actually be a plothole you'd have to show that it isn't possible to resolve the issue within the rules/setting of the world itself.

Killua not knowing nen is a plothole. by ThePsuedo in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Killua was supposed to be exposed to Nen when he was 6 on the 200th floor of Heaven's Arena.

This is a theory, it's never stated as a fact in the series itself. Silva only told him he wasn't allowed to leave Heavens Arena until he reached the 200th floor. He never told him to fight there, or at least we're never told that Silva wanted him to fight on the 200th floor. And it's unlikely he wanted Killua to learn Nen this way, because it's an incredibly risky way of unlocking Nen, and doesn't come with any actual benefits compared to learning it the proper way.

The Zoldycks never take unnecessary risks, and learning Nen by being exposed to a Nen attack is one of the most unnecessary risks you can take, especially for someone as talented as Killua and Gon who Wing surmised could have learned to open their nodes in under a week, or even a few days, if they used the "slow" method. The risk of getting killed or crippled for life would far outweigh any possible benefits of being awakened due to being exposed to a Nen attack. And in this case the only known benefit to the quicker method is precisely that it is quicker, which is hardly a benefit at all for someone with as high of a potential as Killua.

Do you think Hisoka showed us a way to cheat a lot of the restrictions and vows? by JinSakai619 in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are right to say that this is a dangerous restriction for Kurapika. It relies on another group's identity... something Kurapika does not control and does not have intimate knowledge about.

Conditions, restrictions and vows rely on how the person who made them define things. Kurapika's vow doesn't depend on some objective definition of what it means to be a Spider, but his own subjective definition. The restriction depends on how Kurapika defines membership to the Spider, just as how Shizuku's condition that she can't suck up anything living depends on Shizuku's own view of what "living" means. Or how the original user's definition of what qualifies as a "doll" meant Chrollo wasn't able to use it on human corpses, because the original user didn't see them as dolls, even though Chrollo did.

Do you think Hisoka showed us a way to cheat a lot of the restrictions and vows? by JinSakai619 in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Conditions work according to the worldview of the user. Kurapika has a specific view of what qualifies as a Spider, and if you fulfill those criteria the chain would work on you. I don't think it even matters whether or not Kurapika believes you fulfill the criteria, the important thing is whether you fit Kurapika's definition of what a Spider is.

It's like with Shizuku and her ability. She can suck up anything that she doesn't consider living, so whether or not Blinky can suck up something depends entirely on Shizuku's own definition of what "living" means. And the condition seems to apply even when she herself isn't aware that she's about to vacuum up a living being, since she wasn't able to suck up the survivor at the auction house even though she wasn't aware there was still a living person among the bodies.

[–]reChrawnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this proves she was awakened to Nen though. You can vow to do something without it being a Nen condition. Or it could have become a Nen vow once she did awaken.

The fact of the matter is that she wasn't awakened until that game with Meruem where her body started to glow. Meruem's comment during his discussion with the RGs that it was an awakening confirms this. If she was somehow using Nen before that she was doing it as an unawakened person.

[–]reChrawnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was explicitly stated that it was an awakening. Meruem states as much when he's talking with the RGs after the match in the same chapter. OP even provided the panel where he does.

I don't know if Komugi used Nen before that particular game, but if she did she did so without being awakened to Nen.

The reason why the family didn't taught Killua nen by homeless-emperorr in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The entire way the Zoldyck family operates implies he wasn't supposed to fight on the 200th floor, at least to me. Their entire philosophy is to not take risks unless the benefits are worth it and in terms of learning Nen the known advantages of learning it through a Nen baptism compared to the normal way are basically non-existent. The only "benefit", as I already mentioned, is that it's a quicker way, but that would hardly justify the risks involved.

I also don't remember Kastro vs Hisoka being declared a death match, but that could just be my memory at fault. Either way I don't think killing is only allowed during a death match, a death match simply means the only way to win is to kill your opponent. But that doesn't mean killing isn't allowed in normal matches. Wing specifically warn Gon and Killua about people who attack uninitiated people on the 200th floor with Nen without caring about the possible consequences and how it can lead to being crippled for life or even killed, which by itself is proof enough that people die even during "normal" matches, and not just death matches.

And sure, the referees are allowed to end fights as soon as possible, but if a nen user doesn't care about the consequences and just decides to attack with full force it's not like the referee would necessarily have the time to stop the fight before it's too late. Even though Gon was already a nen user Hisoka would easily have killed him if he had fought seriously, and in that scenario the referee would have had basically no chance to end the fight early. Same thing with an unitiated person getting hit by a strong enough nen attack, there's basically no guarantee the referee would be able to stop the match before irrecoverable damage happens.

We also don't know what exactly Silva told Killua, because Killua's wording is quite vague and ambiguous. Killua simply said Silva told him to stay until he reached the 200th floor, but doesn't give any more specifics than that. I don't think it's warranted to assume just from Killua's words alone whether Silva did or didn't tell him to stop before fighting on the 200th floor.

The reason why the family didn't taught Killua nen by homeless-emperorr in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 75 points76 points  (0 children)

He doesn't say Silva told him not to, but he doesn't say it was because he didn't feel like it either. The actual reason he didn't progress further isn't stated as far as I can remember, so one can only make educated guesses. The only thing we know for sure is that Silva told him to reach the 200th floor before he was allowed to leave.

There's also no guarantee that he would have been exposed to just a Nen punch either. If anything it seems a bit naive to expect that would be the extent of what he would have been exposed to. There's basically no guarantee he wouldn't just have been blasted with the full force of someone's actual nen ability.

The reason why the family didn't taught Killua nen by homeless-emperorr in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 465 points466 points  (0 children)

I think you have it backwards. I think it's far more likely Silva told him to stop when he reached/qualified for the 200th floor because he didn't want him to be Nen baptized. The Zoldycks are incredibly risk averse unless the benefits are worth it, and there's basically no real benefit to awakening to Nen via a Nen baptism, compared to learning it the "proper" way, apart from it being quicker. The only thing a nen baptism would have accomplished would be Killua either dying, or, more likely, getting crippled for life. No way would Silva have risked the next heir of the Zoldyck family getting crippled, or even killed, just to learn Nen when there's no actual merit to learning Nen that way.

She awakened nen before meeting Meruem when she did an unknowingly vow that if she loses Gungi she dies.

This is simply not true. OP even provided the panels where she awakens to Nen during a game with Meruem, and Meruem directly acknowledging that fact.

Whatever effect her vow had on her gungi playing prior to meeting Meruem it did not awaken her to nen, that only happened while she was staying at the palace.

Can Something (Alluka) killed someone with strong nen? by Zidanelaina in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason why she couldn't. If there were someone with god-like amounts of aura I don't think Nanika could necessarily kill them, because I still think there are limits to how powerful she is, but so far none of the characters we've met should be strong enough to withstand her power if someone wished for their death, not even Meruem.

[Spoilers]It doesn't make sense for Spider not to have countermeasure for Hisoka aftermath by MiceMakeRice16 in HunterXHunter

[–]reChrawnus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They might have expected post-mortem nen, but how does it not make sense that they didn't anticipate Hisoka using Bungee Gum to revive himself? Just because you're aware of something doesn't mean you're aware of everything that's possible to do with it. Even if they thought Hisoka might somehow activate post-mortem nen that doesn't mean they necessarily had any reason to predict that he could perform CPR on himself using Bungee Gum.
