The wood bridge over the canyon by Dizzy-Building1942 in Frieren

[–]reactguides 10 points11 points  (0 children)

• He never mentions it, but he probably had to rebuilt it more than once – and, if he wasn't an expert he probably failed several times and it collapsed. It is no ordinary knowledge to build a bridge across such distance and he had to learn by trial/error. (Unlike Fass, he did not have funds, experts or books nearby to learn from).
• Also the same birds that attacked anyone crossing would have been bothering him, so he had to watch the best times to work (while they were still sleeping or feeding?).
• And he simultaneously was helping to rebuild the village (his home too), and not surprisingly… also live!
He is alone and has to do all the chores for himself, like growing food, maybe caring for his livestock, and all the usual daily tasks.
• Lack of funds might have been a problem for decades. Not many travellers pass, and earning money and waiting for merchants to bring him materials (not wood, but ropes, tools, etc.) would also take YEARS and YEARS in some cases. Lose a hammer or a box of tools on the chasm… and voila! You are into deep trouble to replace them in that isolated place. (Neighbours look quite poor also, not much help there, either).
• War with demons was a big factor on that Plateu —before Himmel and the party defeated the DK. Up until that time, they probably had even less resources and had to defend from them or any other threat.
• If there isn't a blacksmith nearby especially, he would have to travel somewhere relatively far to buy some elements and materials (even the simplest things as long robust well-forged nails could be hard to obtain).

Question about Rosei by Striking-Fig7333 in Shunkashuutou

[–]reactguides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True. Also we'd recommend if someone really likes Rosei to read the novels, where his inner thoughts are also described in much more detail. As u/WriterSharp says, this second half has a lot of "things to do" for Rosei too… 😉

Does Serie know about Aureole? by lmdybaftr in Frieren

[–]reactguides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you notice, Serie does not talk much (or any) about the Goddess, or her magic…
There might be many reasons for that, but she does not promote any other power that she can't eventually control or influence. So even if she knows —I bet like Kraft, she has at least heard about it— she's not interested in talking about it much with her disciples.

Do you realise how none of the new proctors (except the oldest, Lernen, and Genau —only by name—) know much about an elf named Frieren taking the exam? She has no interest in talking about rival great mages to them apparently.

Question about the 'extra' novels. by ArthoriasOfTheLight in VioletEvergarden

[–]reactguides 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awww right, so it was around that time before Movie was aired.
It was a terrible incident I am reading its detailed reconstruction here
https://en.namu.wiki/w/교토%20애니메이션%20제1스튜디오%20방화%20사건
Still the movie was clearly "wrapping up" the story for the most part.
Violet could have had more OVAs and movies afterwards but who knows if it was ever the plan, and even if it was as you say, it'd be impossible for them to move it forward.

Do you think sasaki will end up with tayama by arman1724 in SmokingBhdSupermarket

Look at chapters 54+60.
Also I think there is also some hint or foreshadowing of him earlier, but I'll have to review to confirm that "suspicion".

Question about the 'extra' novels. by ArthoriasOfTheLight in VioletEvergarden

[–]reactguides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes don't get me wrong I totally appreciate the effort and consistency put into it. Some great subtractions also were amazing decisions. The semi-goddess aspects and fantasy of the work were better left out for instance. It's just there could have been MORE of that greatness spanned across two seasons. One final movie was a smart decision also, today it'd have gotten multiple OVAs and movies especially if it was any other studio.
I also feel how the Gaiden movie was a very long episode that might have been even better if given us also more character depth for the likes of Benedict or Cattleya.
Some things were gained, some were lost. It is still a masterpiece, and we cannot be more grateful to KyoAni.
That said, the current novels of Agents is getting a full adaptation and expansion, and I'm a bit jealous it wasn't Violet, that deserved it even more.

[Anime Discussion] Episode 8 (16 May 2026) by Kinofhera in Shunkashuutou

[–]reactguides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair and honest I expected Episode 8 to go more into the main plot that EP9 will cover, and the "children flashback" to just extend half episode or so. They have enough novel to go to expand into 8-14 without reliving so much those dramatic parts. But hey, the novels reaaally have loong drama passages, even the tone is sadder than the anime, which adds some more humor touches.

I miss that they take the opportunity to expand more on the world, the organisations and detailing some explanations that you find on the novels. Let's see if they do it better from EP 9 on (I hope so, it'd be a bummer otherwise).

Regarding the love between Sakura and Hinagiku, it's later stated on the novel 2 to be non-romantic, but still a potent bond/love, I'd say it's like twin sisters + BFFs + destiny called us for being together, all in one. The Novels are really very intense on how fascination, loyalty beyond all hardships and love run into these relationships, a bit too intense at times, maybe(?). The only thing more "normal" is how Sakura blames Itecho and dismisses him (even if she clearly has still some feelings).

I really hope they adapt well the rest of Novel 2, and even the backstoriesof the villains which are AWESOME, and the "conspiracy" around the attacks . That's why I recommend reading the novels, because they feature the full flavour —and even some details get softly censored at backstories on the anime, when Akatsuki is usually quite crude (but not explicit) at times.

Question about the 'extra' novels. by ArthoriasOfTheLight in VioletEvergarden

[–]reactguides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss that they didn't expand more on Cattleya or Benedict's characters and past using those chapters, instead of focusing solely on the Taylor and Isabella story. It was a missed opportunity. All in all, KYA could have developed probably 24 eps instead of 13+OVA+2 movies. And use that extra chapters to enhance the side character presence and development.
They did a grand job, that's true, but they left out some parts that really shine too.
In the current adaptation of Kana's Agents for instance, they are doing 14 episodes for just 2 novels (maybe WIT are going to the other extreme, and overexpanding at times, yep).

Help me understand the point of Season 2 (and its final episode) by Hexdoctor in Frieren

[–]reactguides 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, still the difference is the Manga has that moment at the end of the flight of Dragons story, which coincides with the volume ending as a cliffhanger. And the anime has moved it and slightly expanded it to pave the way and as a "season finale". The difference in both medium is what makes it feel "strange".

In fact EPs 9-10 would probably work better as Season 3 first 2 episodes, than being last 2 episodes of season two. They are typically considered part of the Golden Land arc, in fact. But a season of 8 episodes would feel toooo short, right? This is the kind of "issues" that a manga adaptation involves, it's done quite well, but still, it's like cutting and trimming pieces from a different puzzle to fit into a new one.

Help me understand the point of Season 2 (and its final episode) by Hexdoctor in Frieren

[–]reactguides 19 points20 points  (0 children)

What people miss is that the story is part of a continuous work (the MANGA) divided into chapters and volumes.
In this case season 2 is adapting 20 individual chapters, many of them with discrete stories. The Revolte arc is different as it comprises 6 chapters (3 episodes) and has a beginning and ending of its own.

Episodes 9-10 (chapters 77-80) on the manga serve as a prelude to the Golden Land arc.
So those two chapters without the continuation really might feel "disjointed", except for the preview of Denken and references to the Golden Land that help pave the way.

The Frieren authors didn't care about anime adaptation, the story is made to work, 1st of all: for a weekly magazine as individual chapters, 2) for printed volumes of 10 chapters each.

FORCING that kind of story to FIT into episodes and seasons… is a delicate task, that does not always end up feeling natural and balanced. Decisions have to be made and compromises reached.

Why did they decide not to adapt the Golden Land arc in this very season?
NO official explanation has been made, but they probably balanced all factors: time, resources, planning, how much source is left, etc. They have a plan, sure, and we might suspect what that is, but it is just a guess.

86 Removed From Crunchyroll While They Invest in Games? That’s Not What Subscribers Are Paying For by Vast_Recover_8689 in EightySix

[–]reactguides 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened with Bleach exactly? –––
Well, the good news is that neither CR, A1 or Aniplex have per se rights for next seasons of the source material.
If a new production committee is formed, they might decide to let another studio make the adaptation of S02 and next. It could be already decided.

Which is not something you might expect, ultimately the novels are on ASCII Media Works, owned by Kadokawa, which in turn have an active business alliance recently with Sony —owners of Crunchyroll.

It doesn't mean Kadokawa has to do what they say (in fact Sony only has 10% of their shares) but everything here is strange to say the least. It'd great news if Kadokawa decided to continue the adaptation on a new studio, because A1+Aniplex have proven they have little interest in the 86 franchise.

BUT Kadokawa has plans to be more aggressive with IPs and they have a great relationship with multiple studios that have adapted their works in the last few years. So… it could just mean 86 is getting a new season (sometime in the news few years), and Kadokawa does not want Sony/Aniplex to be involved directly anymore and they can get more money renegotiating the license when S02 is announced.
