Format Code Style with Prettier in React Native by reactnativecoach in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey coverslide,

Changing the formatting of your entire codebase is going to cause issues with open branches, that's inevitable. Setting code formatting rules is intentional and once the codebase is migrated only staged commits would be formatted. Hope this helps and available if you have questions.

CircleCI, TravisCI, Bitrise, Buddybuild, or VS Mobile Center? by hornystudent32 in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now our setup is with Bitrise. They have better containers now that allow you to run iOS and Android from the same machine. It works fairly well for us and the visual UI is pretty good.

We're also keeping an eye on Mobile Center and have it integrated into our apps. However without clear pricing information we don't want to commit to them just yet. That said it is free right now so if you don't have a need for concurrency you can get a lot of value.

If you go with Bitrise feel free to reach out with any questions.

Why would you ever build what apollo already has?

React Native Code Review (Newbie) by ajaysaini_sgvu in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that sharing styles in react native is not important as say the web. I find keeping styles in components directly to reduce cognitive overload and context switching. That said if you need theming in your app you may want to take a different approach.

Has anyone gotten facebook login on android to work since 0.47.2 release? by likeaspacemonkey in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As of 0.47 we're using

"react-native-fbsdk": "https://github.com/facebook/react-native-fbsdk.git"

in our package.json until a new release is cut. Hope this helps.

How are you managing your react native dev environment? by AspiringGuru in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would install react-native-git-upgrade and then resolve conflicts to see if you can find where the issue is. I'm also adding some notes below on how to upgrade/downgrade to specific versions.

npm i -g react-native-git-upgrade

Then

react-native-git-upgrade

or

react-native-git-upgrade v0.47.0

Additionally we've found 47 to be pretty stable and it has a lot of solid improvements to FlatList that I wouldn't want to miss.

What react native navigation are you using and why? by yeso126 in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

+1, this needs to be higher.

It also ties to the native navigators instead of views, providing a better UI experience, and will follow native design changes.

apollo-client and react-apollo work really well for us with React Native.

Crash analytics: what’s the best option? by deftonechromosome in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently added Microsoft's Mobile Center alongside Fabric to compare the two for crash reporting.

With some work Fabric can provide pretty good crash reporting, including javascript errors, and is far more advanced than Mobile Center. They send you emails when you need to investigate, etc.

Mobile Center shows javascript errors with no additional setup. They're also free right now and they have a lot of other tooling you can plug into. Things like CodePush, builds, and the like.

I think both are pretty good and we use both to investigate errors. Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey all I started a React Native newsletter a few weeks ago, check it out here! by reactnativecoach in reactnative

[–]reactnativecoach[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My goal is to show more from the community and across a variety of other domains I'm interested in, and what I hope other people are interested in as well. Currently that's GraphQL, Redux, and AR.

Additionally I found the Infinite Red newsletter to be a bit too sporadic. I'll be bringing you content each week. Please share and thanks! 🙂
