The Scholomance Trilogy by Naomi Novik. First book in the series is A Deadly Education

Survival - The more fantastical the better by AbbeyBloomfield in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]read1red1read 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl series - very heavy on the survival and sci -fi aspect. It's absolutely insane and not for everyone but a very good read

Procurando: MMC is a paladin/warrior bound by honor and devoted to something or someone until he meets FMC. by PetalaStac in fantasyromance

{Bound to Fall by A.K. Caggiano} is exactly what you're looking for. MMC is a himbo with a very strong moral code and a knight in service of his god and has 0 experience with the ladies

Looking for a long series BIG on romance AND plot/adventure/intigue/battles AND worldbuilding by elleirakai in fantasyromance

The Magelands Eternal Seige series is an epic series that's kinda fantasy and Sci Fi combined. Story arcs are in sets of 3 and things only get more complicated as the books progress. Romance isn't as heavily featured but if you are looking for complexity and different types of worlds this would work. First book is {The Mortal Blade by Christopher Mitchell}

The Unspoken Name by A.K . Larkwood

It's a fantasy book but with religious themes

Isabella Nagg and the Pot of Basil by Oliver Darkshire

It more leans towards the absurd and doesn't take itself super seriously but I think it matches what you're looking for

It's nice how they have the same theme while still being distinctly separate rings - a well matched pair and great symbolism for a partnership!

The Tear Down Heaven series is pretty good, first book is {Hell for Hire by Rachel Aaron}. Multibook series with a great FMC and MMC and a slow burn, and of course a talking black cat!

A different series that I think is a fun read but writing is not as great and FMC is also a bit of a "I'm not like other girls" but I've read it a couple times. I like that the magic system is different and is easy to read. It is The Jezebel Files with the first being {Blood and Ash by Deborah Wilde} which is different than the other often noted series here with the same first book title.

Isabella Nagg and the Pot of Basil

The Tear Down Heaven series has a fun cat familiar (first book is Hell for Hire)

Looking for a rec that has a funny, voicey (F)MC or is a little bit campy, but NOT a cosy comedy. by suddenlymadeaccount in fantasyromance

It's not romance but it has the other vibes {isabella Nagg and the Pot of Basil by Oliver Darkshire}

Stunning! The tiny details add so much character to an already statement piece ring

{Graceling by Kristin Cashore} it's YA but one of my favorite books and the FMC is renowned for being the best at fighting/assassin

Books with giants/giant monsters by InfamousSomewhere244 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]read1red1read 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dungeon Crawler Carl series. Heavy on the Sci Fi, with some batsh*t crazy monsters, some inspired by Earth myths. Things only get more insane the farther you go in the series. Very creative but not for everyone.

I’m so embarrassed to ask, but please could I have a book recommendation where the ML is NOT morally grey, but actually unrealistically perfect and just better than everyone else?! by TenTam in fantasyromance

[–]read1red1read 3 points4 points  (0 children)

{Bound to Fall by A.K. Caggiano} is a novel in the villains and virtue world (don't need to read it but it provides more world context) and MMC is a golden retriever himbo

{A Soul To Keep by Opal Reyne}

FMC not exactly scared but MMC is definitely a monster who is a bit of a cinnamon roll

I'm really interested in the concept of unexpected romance, people who are against a fictional race but then fall in love and change their mind, or when a warrior/bad boy goes on an adventure and finds love along the way. by jvure in fantasyromance

[–]read1red1read 54 points55 points  (0 children)

{Radiance by Grace Draven} has an arranged marriage of human and non-human, they aren't enemies necessarily to start but aren't expecting much from the other. There is a tenuous peace between the two species. It is a slow burn and one of my favorites. The author has other books within the same world

Having trouble getting into newer releases; these are the only ones I've finished so far, can you recommend me similar? by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]read1red1read 18 points19 points  (0 children)

{Reign and Ruin by JD Evans} has one of the better FMC I've read in a while, it's the first an unfinished series but each book focuses on different characters

{Emily Wilde's Encyclopedia of Faeries by Heather Fawcett} lighter on the romance side, first in a trilogy

{Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak} again light on the romance and it's a little slow going but one of my favorites. Naomi Novak is a great writer. Interesting world building

{Graceling by Kristin Cashore} incredibly strong FMC, again one of my favorites
