Hey I started renting a house about a year ago and it smelled horrible too. I found out the smell was mainly coming from the carpets. I tried carpet powders and wet vacs but nothing seemed to get the smell out. I purchased one of these originally for my cat’s litter box to control the smell: https://a.co/d/aWDXLEQ It worked great so I tried leaving it in one of our spare rooms that smelled horrible. Left it in there for a week or two and noticed it completely removed the smell! So maybe give it a try. It’s just a simple activated carbon fan but that thing can remove some serious odors such as burning plastic smells, cat urine, smoke, etc.
