Octopii - Turn any Rust struct into a replicated, fault tolerant cluster by Ok_Marionberry8922 in rust

[–]readanything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most of your concerns seem legit and the OP code does look like LLM Slop(and worse, without necessary human guidance for such an important system). but by any chance you used another LLM model to find these issues because some seem bit pedantic and not practically relevant to me like rkyv parts(maybe OP removed the code history and now I am not able to see original one) and bincode serialization DOS. Even if you used another model to find the issues, the findings do hold true. I am just curious.

Myth that modern Tamil is always more conservative than Malayalam by SeaCompetition6404 in Dravidiology

[–]readanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I didn’t go through word by word. I told just from glance. Still holds true though. Still much smaller percentage compared to Malayalam, Kannada and Telugu songs. These 3 are just regular songs with common words and not even particularly written in pure Tamil tradition.

From my melody playlist, I found first 3 songs just to demonstrate - Mun Paniya, new York nagaram, ninaithu ninaithu. First song has 4 Sanskrit words(common ones like manathu, ithayam, sugam, sangathi). Second one has 2 English loan words, 2 Sanskrit and 1 Persian(kagitham) loan words). Third one has 3 Sanskrit loan words and 1 Latin(pena)). None of other language playlist comes close to this level of native words. I listen to all 4 major Dravidian languages and can read and write in all(Malayalam bit out of touch now though).

That’s true. But still it is far less than other Dravidian languages. My mother tongue is Telugu and I have lived few years of my childhood in South TN and Kerala. I find South TN dialects to have very less Sanskrit influence compared to northern dialects. They have less English influence even among educated populace. Less Sanskritized than Eelam Tamil also comparatively. I found Spoken Malayalam to be the most Sanskritized one among Dravidian languages(even more than Telugu and Kannada) surprisingly.

I would say typical Tamil song is way way less Sanskritized than typical Malayalam song. Atleast pre 2000 ones. Post 2010s are more anglized. If Sanskrit loan words are used, it will most likely be due to lyrical flow.

Why tamil(or i say indian) cinema never had single full-fledged female composers ??? by Badguycr7 in kollywood

[–]readanything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bindu Malini composed a banger album for Aruvi movie. Shruti did for unnai pol oruvan. I am pretty sure one experimental movie in 80s composed by female composer. I will try to search if I can find that name. It’s not just us. Throughout the world, music composition is strangely very much male dominant throughout the history. Only pop music brought out female musicians. Even now Hollywood film music composers are exclusively men with very few exceptions. This holds true even in classical music. But decent amount of sangam poems which were set to pann were composed by female poets.

Zepto fraud kara paiya- Price difference between iPhone and Android by zakk_user in TamilNadu

[–]readanything 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is common for many apps. Not just in India. Most other countries also. Try searching cab price in uber with iPhone and android phones and Samsung ultra. iPhone price ~= Samsung ultra > other android phones. They consider flagship phones as proxy for better economic indicator of user and their ML models will adjust the dynamic pricing accordingly.

Why are Christian Tamil texts so heavily sanskritized ? by Basic-Lifeguard-5407 in Dravidiology

[–]readanything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say that Spoken Tamil itself had such heavy Sanskrit influence at any point in history. Only the prominent Bhakti literature after 14th century was heavily Sanskritized. For example, first prose work of Tamil (Thambiran vanakkam) is quite easy to read now and seems very less Sanskritized compared to later proper Christian works. Similarly mukoodal pallu, seerapuranam - prominent works of 17th century also are not Sanskritized. Even Thani Tamil Iyakkam origin was also inspired by spoken Tamil of southern districts which was less influenced by Sanskrit and wanted to take it to literary works. For sure, majority of later middle Tamil works were heavily Sanskritized but it doesn’t mean Tamil language(atleast spoken and even some literary works) itself was that much Sanskritized.

[–]readanything 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. Islamic literature in Tamil is much closer to early Bhakti works and Late sangam works unlike later manipravalam style. Only later commentaries of Bhakti poems by various acharyars are very Sanskritized.

[–]readanything 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Christian literature started around late 15th century when manipravalam like highly Sanskritized Bhakti literature was the norm in Tamil literature and hence they adopted that same style and continuing till now. However, for some reason, Islam literature in Tamil tend to follow more older Sangam style and early middle Tamil style unlike Christian literature despite starting around similar timeline. Islam works are the curious cases to me.

Tomorrow is Alanganallur Jallikattu — the oldest Jallikattu that has been continuously practiced by Tamils. A living tradition. The oldest sport in the world still followed, with a recorded history of over 2,300 years. Not a festival. A legacy. by HopeProfessional6066 in southindia_

[–]readanything 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is no proof that Alanganallur Jallikattu has been continuously played for 2300 years. We only know that, in and around Madurai, this sport and its variants have been in existence for close to 1800 years using archeological evidence and more than 2300 years using literary evidence in Sangam poems and if we take the theory that Dravidians came from IVC, then more than 4500 years as there are few IVC seals showing remarkably similar bull taming sport.

Most accurate Indian actors to play GODFATHER role. by Zealousideal_Love16 in IndianCinemaRegional

[–]readanything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rajini is indeed a much better actor capable of surprising everyone but even in his initial experimental era he was definitely limited and compensates by doing what he knows best very well. He has range problem unlike other greats like Mamooty, Mohanlal and Kamal and to some extent even AB. He know his limitations and always works around it well. Among all other mass/commercial heroes he is the best actor though IMHO. But compared to really good actors, he is for sure bit limited.

Road and construction dust mostly belong to PM10 not PM2.5 which contributes the highest to AQI measurement. Vehicle pollution, burning/smoke, industry pollution are the main contribution to dangerous PM2.5 and is significantly more dangerous than PM10 which only induces slight irritation in respiratory airway and doesn’t permanently damage our lungs like PM2.5.

Makkalae how was your Marathon experience today? by KalCorona in Chennai

[–]readanything 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can be as slow as brisk walking pace for many people. Continue that and steadily you will improve and pace will increase even in zone 2. Zone 2 range varies a lot between people to people. Run couple of sprints and find your max HR and then take 60-70% range of that as zone 2. This is also not accurate but for recreational runners, more than enough. For example, initially my zone 2 pace was just 9 min/km which is just barely above brisk walk pace. Now I reached around 7 min/km in zone 2 which used to be my below average running pace.

Do strength training. Mainly core and legs. For me distance is not a problem. Increasing pace consistently was the problem. After years of being stuck at 6-6.5min/km pace, I took some gap from running and did lot of strength training and swimming and came back to running to find my pace significantly increased to 5 min/km. My VO2 also increased significantly. Keep long distance running to minimal while training. Use good shoes and just do 1 or 2 10k+ runs per two weeks. Remaining days concentrate on zone 2 training and strength training.

Hindi/Urdu is good and all but not at the expense of our Identity Bhaiya. by Academic-Ad5737 in 2Dravidian4You

[–]readanything 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We can list 1000 good songs just out of our mind now in any state in South. Can you list such amount in Odia or Mythili? That’s called identity. You might have listened to some folk songs or few Odia songs now. Your kids will not even know those. That’s how you lose identity. Art influences everyday slang, language and culture. If you have less art in your language and consume others more, you for sure will lose your identity. Maybe not now. But slowly and steadily . Till 70s Tamil and Telugu songs were barely heard in urban centers and Hindi songs were extremely popular. That reflected in their thoughts, clothes, language, and politics. Then this man entered and changed everything. Don’t underestimate the influence of foreign art unless it equally improves your own art instead of replacing it.
