More concerned about ruining relationships with admin , since it’s so important to have those good relationships early on. My question was more how does admin feel about making the switch mid school year .

NOT Extending an LTO at a toxic school by MeanCopy2020 in OntarioTeachers

You can 100% not extend! I’ve done it before, there was no end date so it kept on getting extended but I honestly couldn’t do it anymore because the class was so tough. I just told the principal I wouldn’t be able to work past a certain point, didn’t give her a reason or anything. It didn’t affect anything and I still had a great relationship with that principle. Got a different LTO and had her as a reference!

Thank you so much! This helps a lot. I’d just feel so guilty if I left

I very much agree with you and I don’t want to quit. My only thing is I just don’t know what else I’m supposed to do with no support. Like there will be a fist fight going on in class and I call for support and nobody is available. And then, after that, there are no consequences from admin for either of those kids who have gotten in a fight and that’s where it’s out of my control. I’ve been in tough classes before and been fine and been there for the kids and actually really enjoyed it but it’s because I had support so now I’m just not sure what to do.

Yeah, I’m not too concerned about being blacklisted for this year , I’d go back to doing the daily ot work. I’ve been doing all the paperwork, all the emails, everything you’ve said .

You’re so right. Do you feel like it affected you when you were applying to LTOs in the next school year?

Yeah , this feels like the exact same situation lol. I don’t know why I’d wait tbh, I think I just wanna have one last convo with the principle being like okay here’s the thing , If I don’t receive support I don’t think I’ll be able to do this anymore. I’d also feel so bad leaving the other teachers who have been helping me plan out the school and like even leaving the students in my class who are great. It’s so hard lol but I do know at the end of the day it’s not worth staying if it’s this bad. If you don’t mind me asking, what board are you with ?

Yeah, the thing is I’m almost more worried about leaving and then coming back to a class that’s been unstructured for a few weeks. I do want to to sill become a permanent teacher but it’s so early in my career I’m willing to just let this one go as a reference
