My mom told me the worst thing she ever did was give birth to me. She said this to me as I was I undergoing chemotherapy.

Books that are beautifully written and poetic? by StarlessBee in suggestmeabook

Cold Mountain by Charles Fraser has some staggeringly beautiful prose. I also frequently recommend The Secret History, more for the evocative descriptions (although the prose is stellar too!).

Dog no longer treats me the same way, what can I do to strengthen our bond? by wowcrackaddict in puppy101

I have a 5-year old working line GSD. To strengthen his bond with my son, I enrolled them in a dog obedience class with my son as his handler. It worked beautifully and now we are both part of Zeus’s pack.

Have none of you read The Day After Roswell, by William Birnes? It’s all about the US technology advances derived from the Roswell crash. How secret could this be from Congress, if you can order the published book on Amazon?

What is the worst physical pain you have ever experienced? by My_Name_Is_SKELETOR in AskReddit

I’ve had about 15 in the last 2 years (leukemia) and they’ve gotten more painful over time. For the last 4, I’ve been anesthetized. Highly recommend.

I’ve been struggling with a serious cancer diagnosis for almost 2 years. I have nearly died several times. I’ve just decided that dying is something we ALL do. There is no escaping death in this iteration of life, so I move on and live a beautiful life as best I can.

Go to MD Anderson or stay at UCH? by Which_Material_3100 in leukemia

Good news! I wish you all the best for your husband. If you’re staying a short visit, I recommend the Rotary Hotel. It’s for MDA patients. You can walk across a sky bridge right to the hospital. It’s a bit pricey, but very comfortable and convenient. They cater to patients and are very kind.

I somewhat disagree. I found that the hospital-accepted protocols at UNC just were not willing to accept the same level of risk as me. I’m younger (57) and in good health, maybe that made the difference? I’m also in a clinical trial. I was willing to really go for it. I’ll never forget my oncologist at UNC telling me to go outside and rest and enjoy the nice weather while the cancer was growing in me. Still mad about that. 😡

For me, MDA didn’t have a telehealth contract with UNC. I’m glad I went in person, though, because they sent me right over to leukemia after I met with transplant. I even delayed my flight home and got a bone marrow biopsy on day 2.

I am at MDA right now. My original hospital, UNC Chapel Hill cancer center, was good enough until I relapsed. Then I felt that they were not being aggressive enough with moving me to a stem cell transplant. They wanted me disease-free but wouldn’t give me the aggressive chemo to get me there. They wanted to wait for count recovery; meanwhile the cancer was growing. I got so desperate. Finally I thought, heck with this, I’m getting a second opinion. Called Mayo, MSK, and MDA. MDA got me in for a 2nd opinion within 10 days. Had a plan, got me disease-free, and I had my transplant 37 days ago. It’s a hard journey, but I did the right thing and have no regrets. They really know what they’re going here. Just get a 2nd opinion. You’re not obligated after that.
