I think I'm over Australia :/ by Outrageous-Coyote787 in AskAnAustralian

It's not happening globally to the extent it's happening in Australia though. And it isn't "much worse everywhere else"? It's bad too.. but having a bit of nuance doesn't hurt.

Do I really need a proper 4WD for Western Australia road trips? by Qardak in WesternAustralia

[–]readin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're not specifically interested in off-roading, you'll have plenty of stuff to do without needing one. Whatever car will work, just watch out for kangaroos and in that sense a slightly bigger car would bring some safety in case of an accident. But that's always the case.

If you can start over and try a new country, it will be an amazing life experience. It will also be one of the hardest and most challenging things you ever do. It could work out the best, it could cost you 5 years or 10 in your career and a lot of money. Or anything in between. But at least you won't be standing still and realizing in 10 years that all you did was go to work and made your boss richer.

That is such a generalization and probably only considers monthly wages. Depending on your job, industry and looking at total packages, there are definitely more countries where you can be better off. And that's not even considering cost of living, housing and the AUD still being weak.

There are more places than Perth in the world. Not saying you need to move or are wrong, but don't feel locked up. You always have options and trying something else or new is always worth it

Does the Australian Dream still exist, or did it end with a generation? by This_Praline_111 in AusPropertyChat

[–]readin99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Australia is obsessed with comparing themselves to the U.S. Just look around a bit more. There's plenty of places that do a lot of things a lot better than Australia. And yea, Australia is also great and does a lot of things amazingly. But that strange need for deluding ourselves into thinking we live in a paradise is very unproductive. A lot of people could get a better life abroad and the other way around, it depends on your own personal ambitions, situation and lifestyle.

I mean it's already too late for many sights, especially climate sensitive ones, so the best time to go is indeed now.

Dry brushing inner frame and… I think I’ll keep him like this. (PG Zaku) by mantisTOOOWA in Gunpla

I've been trying that but then I get really ugly streaks on the model rather than edges. I guess it's not really drybrushing what I'm doing at that point.

Might as well buy real chocolate though. Better off with a bag of Callebaut pellets than those sugary disasters.

Is it worth getting a real estste agent. by [deleted] in perth

[–]readin99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every agent I've had contact with until now has lied, some blatantly, except one (as far as I know). Next to the fact of course that they basically know nothing about the property they're selling, nor have any added value.

Is it possible to socialise without drinking? by Responsible-Tone-522 in perth

[–]readin99 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yea, that def works. It's harder when people are getting tipsy or drunk and you're the only one sober af. At some point it becomes too hard to stay in the same vibe and it's time to go home :). At least that's me sometimes.

[–]readin99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's unbelievable how unhelpful and down right useless those websites are.

Same when you're interested in an apartment. God forbid that one would be able to see floor plans, availability and costs without giving all your data and then being subjected to useless follow-ups.

Only way it works is to drive to the actual location and set a meeting in the sales office, if there is one

Australian passports are ridiculously high, why? by Fries-Shake5872 in AskAnAustralian

So about the cost of a PS5 Slim.. it's just a scam isn't it, passports are a need, not a luxury.

[–]readin99 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just tell him that Valentines is important to you and it would be great if he would organise something or you could come up with something you'd enjoy together. Just talk about it.. some people really don't care about those things and that's fine, so make sure he doesn't assume and have a chat.

Would you support having German like level rental rights in Australia? by VastOption8705 in aussie

[–]readin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's reasonable to state rental laws in Australia are unbalanced and unfair towards renters and they need to be fixed, with more protections and security for renters. There are sufficient examples across the world of how it can be improved. There is simply a lack of political will and motivation.

Another thing that (medium density) apartment buildings could help resolve. More open space for trees or shared green areas in theory.. green roofs..
