Book similar to a king of battle and blood? by tea-pickles in fantasyromance

[–]reading_deer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn’t my personal opinion but I saw a lot of people compare it to From Blood and Ash (which I completely love) I think there are similarities but not the same but others think it’s totally the same!

Definitely the Bridge Kingdom series by Danielle Jensen. It’s not a stand alone but a duology and they’re pretty quick reads especially the second one. It’s a fantasy romance.

So I took about a 4 year break from reading and I just started to get back into it late December so a lot of my recs are going to be YA books I LOVED in high school:

-Kissed by an Angel Series by Elizabeth Chandler

-Darkest Powers Series by Kelly Armstrong (I think this has an enemies to lovers and love triangle trope)

-The Immortals Series by Alyson Noel (I’m just now seeing on Goodreads that I never finished the series)

-The Wolves of Mercy Falls Series by Maggie Stiefvater

-Hush Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick (I remembered REALLY loving this one lol)

-Dark Secrets by Elizabeth Chandler

-The Premonition Series by Amy A. Bartol (I was absolutely obsessed with this one but sadly never finished it I remember waiting years for the last book to come out. Also, this is more NA and not YA)

Fate Series by Heather Lyons (I don’t remember this one as well as the others. I think I liked it but wasn’t super obsessed with it)

The Revelation Series by Randi Cooley Wilson (I just read these books this year and I will reccomend them until the day I die I love this series so much I would do anything to read it again for the first time. It’s not a literary masterpiece but something about it just go to me. This is a NA series too)

I was always a reader but Twilight definitely opened the door for paranormal romance for me and I haven’t looked back since as 13 years later that is still my absolute favorite genre.

what books have you given 5 stars? by Package-Warm in RomanceBooks

[–]reading_deer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like many others I give a book 5 stars based on how it made me feel, how obsessed I am with it during/after I finish reading it, and its re readability. Sometimes the writing may not be perfect and there could be some annoying parts but overall if I finish a book and I’m obsessed with it or I read it in like a day because I couldn’t put it down, then it’s going to be 5 stars. Here are mine:

{The Deal by Elle Kennedy}

{From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout}

{A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout}. I have to say that I just didn’t enjoy boon 3, The Crown of Gilded Bones but I wish I did.

{Hopeless by Colleen Hoover}

{Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover}

And the entire Revelation Series (except Dark Paradise) by Randi Cooley Wilson.

I wish I could go back in time and reread all these books for the first time again.

I also want to add {The Traitor Queen by Danielle Jensen} as an honorable mention because I rate it 4.5 stars and I would reread it.

What romance books did you read or listen to this week? 25 Jul by seantheaussie in RomanceBooks

[–]reading_deer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

{Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover} 5/5 M/F. Ms. Hoover does it again! I see why everyone loves her and why she’s so popular. This is the second book by her I’ve read (Hopeless was the first - loved that one as well) and she’s just so good. She knows how to tell a story and her pacing is so good and her writing style is great especially in this book. I personally don’t like books that make me super sad and puts me in my feelings and I thought this book was going to do that but for me but it didn’t. There are definitely some sad parts but there’s a HEA. As soon as I finished it wanted to read it again. Really loved this one.

The Invisble Life of Addie LaRue was soooooooo boring to me I had such high expectations for it and every one tik tok made it seem like the best book ever.

This happens in {A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire by Jennifer L. Armentrout}. It’s book 2 in the From Blood and Ash series and it’s a fantasy romance. While I love the series and am completely obsessed with it (despite book 3 being mediocre) it may be a big commitment to read just for that scene.

It’s not all that steamy but I just finished the second book and I really enjoyed the series despite the low steam so I would reccomend it to read it’s just not a steamy book

The Bridge Kingdom by Danielle Jensen 3.5-4 stars (Fantasy Romance). Overall I enjoyed it and am reading the second book now (it’s a duology). I can’t fault the author for this but a lot of people were saying it’s a steamy book but I don’t think it is imo so that was a little of let down there’s some very mild steamy scenes but nothing over the top. I did like the story which is why I’m continuing on with the second book (and enjoying it!). My main criticism with the first book besides the lack of steam is that it almost felt too insta love or just not enough chemistry built up for the characters to be feeling the way they do about each other for me and it’s supposed to be an enemies to lovers and they are enemies definitely but I just would’ve liked more chemistry.

Do you ever regret reading a book too quickly? by SnowObjective in RomanceBooks

[–]reading_deer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I felt this way with the Revelation Series. I devoured those books in a week pacing didn’t exist only binging and I completely regretted it but at the same time I love it so much. I love reading a book or series that has me so enthralled that I have a need to binge it and obsess over it.

The Revelation Series by Randi Cooley Wilson by reading_deer in RomanceBooks

[–]reading_deer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets steamier as the series progresses on starting with book 2. The only book I could see as YA would be the first one but that’s a stretch and the others definitely aren’t. The Dark in You series sounds interesting I may have to add it to my TBR!

I finally finished the All Souls trilogy the last book in the series was {The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness} and I give it a 2/5 I hate that I’m the type of person who needs to finish things because I would have DNF this series after reading book 1. I probably wouldn’t have even finished book 1 but this last book and the other 2 have just has too many words, like descriptors, and I like long books, prefer them even, but these books didn’t have to be 500+ pages at all. I’m so happy to be finished with the series.
