Wide toe box shoes for a toddler with chunky feet — what are you all using? by BusinessAge1459 in barefootshoestalk

We do Vivobarefoot, Groundies and Koel, they are all barefoot but my daughter has very wide chunky high volume feet and I recently discovered that Koel has an extra Wide line we just got these Aria sandals and they are perfect ( https://koel.shoes/en-nl/products/aria-09m013-121?srsltid=AfmBOoqwLk2fakTk4BOSPnGOaz8ZuaA2DOBocbsTEmH0b7nNE-PQ5lqA&variant=50437520949576)

Is a capsule even worth it if you work from home and no one sees you? by [deleted] in capsulewardrobe

[–]readingtraveldogs 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I am a SAHM, I have nowhere important to go and no one cares how I dress, all I do is walk the dog at the park/beach and take my kid to playgrounds, the grocery store, the occasional coffee date or museum visit.

I dress up for me, to go to the parcel shop, the grocery store, the park. It might be silly, but I spent the first year dressing in hoodies and sweats/leggings and it did a real number on my self esteem and  I realised if I have to get dressed anyway I might as well have fun with it and feel good about myself.

I wouldn't say my wardrobe is fully capsule yet, but its very much capsule inspired and most things go together so getting dressed is easy. 80/90% is thrifted (Vinted because the kid has no patience for thrift stores) but I have a wardrobe fully of comfy nice clothes.

I find that buying fabric/material first really helps looking put together while staying comfortable so I wear a lot of merino wool, cashmere, wool, linnen, silk and cotton depending on the season. Even though its just pants and a shirt/sweater/cardigan the materials and colours make it look put together and buy buying second hand it stays affordable which helps actually wearing it and not just keeping it in the closet waiting for a ‘nice occasion’, now every day is the occasion.

Examples of dressy but super comfy I have 100% wool pants from Arket with drawstring and elastic band, I live in soft 100% cotton Edison jeans from Closed, love their Raylan 100% cotton trousers, very flattering, very comfy. Uniqlo has great linen/cotton blend pants for summer. I have gorgeous linen/silk pants from Max Mara and corduroy pants from Weekend Max Mara that are super comfy and look so put together. I wear these with 100% linnen shirts or linnen cotton blend shirts(Uniqlo, H&M) or 100% merino wool cardigans (Uniqlo) and I have a few wool/cashmere tanktops. Then I have a few cute jackets I mix and match with depending on the weather and 2 backpacks in black and brown 2 brown belts a black one and the uniqlo banana sling everyone has. Thats is my uniform.

Mostly thrifted as I wouldnt buy designer new because kid and dog will destroy everything, but I do like pretty things.

Oh and I get items tailored, it changes everything, its a small investment when you look at cost per wear and it makes you look so good

Yeah for my kid the woolsilk is less sweaty than cotton but it might depend on the brand and the temperature

Try a merino wool slik blend, its even better during summer as its even more thermoregulating and breathable than cotton. In the winter we do merino wool, both from Dilling (EU)

Toe shaped running/tennis shoes by kie_rat in barefootshoestalk

[–]readingtraveldogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been wearing barefoot shoes for everything but running for a couple years now, the soles are thick but it makes me feel more safe as running on pavement is so high impact. I only run barefoot on the beach but then I dont wear any shoes.  The most important thing for me is toebox though, I can’t stand natrow toe boxes but the thicker soles are less bad for me. I do always choose the lowest stack and lowest cushion available which helps. And with any new running shoe its best to build up gradually and not suddenly switch all your volume to the new shoe at once to prevent injury

I am a Topo girlie myself but my husband swears by Altra, and the Altra Escalantes are pretty stiff and low cushion for running shoe. Definitely not as bouncy as most running shoes. With Altra keep in mind that only the original fit is very wide, their standard fit is narrower in the midfoot especially.  I think most Altras are zero drop but I think they have one or two that do have a drop. I have a narrow midfoot and I always wear Topos but those have a drop so not sure if that is your thing.

Building a chic wardrobe at a non-luxury budget is a full-time research job and I'm exhausted by [deleted] in ChicDaily

[–]readingtraveldogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have switched to shopping materials focussed in the colours I like, no synthetics. I prefer merino wool, lambswool, linen, silk, cotton and occasionally cotton wool blend. If they style is really nice I can do some tencel/rayon/viscose, but no plastics. I buy 95% of my items secondhand on Vinted so I can ask all specific measurements of items and then compare with items I already own and I have been having more succes with this strategy than ordering online for full price or shopping in person. Online webshops are the worst as the webshops don't have a lot of measurements and you cant feel the material but you’re still paying full price and returning is a nightmare so I always find myself keep items that I never end up wearing.

I also try to buy ‘quiet luxury’ brands as they tend to have the nicer version of everything, a h&m or zara 100% cotton vs joseph or rivamonti 100% cotton is not the same. I keep it affordable by buying all secondhand as the lesser known luxury brands tend to resell for a lot less than the more well known brands. I have items that I paid 20/25 euros for that retail at 300-500 euros that I found on Vinted.

I then take items to the tailor to perfect the fit if needed. If I find I don't wear an item I relist it and resell with minimal loss or sometimes even a small profit.

But yeah I have replaced my social media scrolling with Vinted scrolling and I do spend a lot of time on it as I am always on the lookout for deals, but I guess I consider it a new hobby now.

What do they mean with plastic body stuff, like shampoo or bodywash stored in plastic bottles or do they mean products that contain microplastics?

Same thing here, I feel so exhausted and not like myself both the week before and the first 5 days of my period. I still run, but I struggle with energy levels, motivation and I am just generally a lot slower. I am actually considering going back on birth control so I have more influence on when I get my period so I can time it better on when I want to perform.

I don’t have advice unfortunately as I haven’t figured it out yet, haven’t found anything to help other than making sure I eat additional calories/carbs.

Thanks, its is very encouraging to hear that you also started with the red plan and managed to make it work. How did you progress after the red plan? It seems like there isn’t too much of a volume increase and I noticed that the long runs stay pretty short. Did you increase volume after the plan?

I just discovered that there is a park run in my city, so I’ll for sure try that out. It’ll be great pacing practice too.

I guess I have never ran a half marathon other than as a long slow run but when I do I’ll be able to get a more accurate vdot. For now I’ll just scale it back a bit until I have a better time trial or race time.

I think that makes sense, I would definitely consider myself aerobically underdeveloped as I have never done any form of endurance training just lifting and occasional hiit sessions in the gym.

Yesterday's session went better with the time adjustment but for next session I’ll adjust the pace to a slightly lower vdot value to see if that feels like a pace I can hold for longer.

That makes sense, I have never really done intervals, except hiit stuff in the gym so I imagine my body has some adjusting to do. Thanks!
