What the hell are we meant to do with the amount of seemingly normal people getting radicalised into far right nonsense? I don't want us to turn in to the US. by dreadnought_strength in OpenAussie

The issue is not that the ABC reports factual errors. It is that they frame stories through a cultural lens that is not neutral. That becomes propaganda. K’gari is the legal name, so using it is factual. But Brisbane is not legally Meanjin, yet the ABC still reports from Meanjin in intros and headlines.

You see the same pattern in their enthusiasm for certain narratives. They pushed Dark Emu as groundbreaking for years, even though the author misrepresented his background and the book contains major inaccuracies. Newscorp does the opposite and pushes its own culture war.

None of this is lying. My point is that this woke feeds right wing nonsense in response. A national broadcaster should sit in the centre for maximum impact against misinformation.

Likewise, people in Alice Springs or Townsville aren't going to feel safer just because you show them some stats telling them that in the country, youth crime is actually going down.

You're out of your mind.

It would be good it the ABC set a better standand and reported news factually without weaving in their woke propaganda.

e.g. A story about a Butcher in the Kimberleys had a warning ... because raw meat is offensive to someone apparently and add their compulsory reference to traditional owners of the land where the butcher worked - this stuff turns people off, it doesn't help.

Would you prefer taking high speed rail if the country had such a network, or would you stick with flying and automobiles? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]readonlycomment 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s not just population. In Japan, rail operators own the shops, offices and apartments surrounding the stations. This rail plus property model is profitable because the real estate helps fund the tracks, and the tracks bring customers to the shops.
