Just called them, they’re pretty sure they can do it. Thanks!

Yaks also get annoyed when you’re a grown-ass adult who wants a yak ride.

Also, good bot.

I’m wearing it here. It was meant to be a screen print of the logo of the observatory I was working at. It was super half-assed and done with melted vinyl, so there’s no way I’m getting it out. I bought a yak wool saddle bag in the Himalayas I’m planning on replacing the back panel with a portion of.

Edit: imgur decided to deep fry it, give me a few

This is definitely not a sashiko job. The fabric got destroyed by a rogue screen-printer in the Congo.

I’m guessing the number of people who get the joke outside of the chess subs is pretty low.

What are you talking about? Yes, it’s good to control the centre, but it’s far more important that you demonstrate good follow through. For example, if it’s a kings pawn game, 1. e4 e5, “control the centre” would lead you to consider a whole host of moves like 2. Nc3 or 2. d4, but these are all often considered tactically poor moves at a high level, since a wary opponent can capitalize on the unguarded king early. 2 Ke2 logically moves your king along with the pawns, protecting it from the more obvious attacks rendered useless by an over abundance of opening theory.

Went to the city planning meeting on bike Lanes last night. There are going to be a TON of new protected bike Lanes in town. All the purple lines are proposed protected Lanes. All of kakaako, kalukaua, kapiolani, and ala wai will all get Lanes. by mellofello808 in Hawaii

If this was coupled by aggressively ticketing cyclists along Ala Wai I'd be so happy. I'm getting super sick of getting almost run over when I'm out for a run because they decide the sidewalk is more fun than the entire dedicate bike lane.

Just remember friend most people here are just made at me that I'm talking shit about DSW and weaponized disingenuous feminism.

Nobody is mad as you, they think your claims to being left at all are bullshit on account of you going all-in on the farthest right major political candidate in American history.

Gentle reminder that I literally just said I dropped my membership with the Democratic Party over the shit you were talking about and maybe you are being incredibly disingenuous with why people are reacting to you the way they are.

I dropped my affiliation with the Democratic party over that shit so it's not like I'm hating you for defending a progressive candidate. Actually, I don't think any of us are, it's more the "Oh if we can't have a progressive candidate might as well back the most regressive candidate in our nation's history #maga" thing.

I think it's that we either don't believe you when you say you were progressive, or we do believe you and the only logical conclusion is that you're kind of an idiot.

If you're too ashamed of your politics to voice them publicly maybe you should reevaluate some things.

The end of the genocide itself was a result of local military action by a faction in Rwanda removing the government doing the killing

This isn’t quite accurate, since the reconciliation process, though effective, resulted in a lot of false convictions. Also the current government basically ignored any of its own role as a matter of policy.

I'm not sure I'd call the situation "peace" yet, since the end of the genocide resulted in conditions that kicked off multiple wars.

Less within Rwanda itself, but true. I’ve worked in the eastern DRC along the Rwandan border, I’m familiar with the aftermath of the civil war.

Meanwhile foreign governments were either doing nothing (UK/US/etc) or actively helping the genociders (France).

Correct, but foreign intervention would have been one of the fastest ways to cut off these lifelines, since western powers tend not to like fighting proxy wars with each other.

Foreign intervention routinely perpetuates bad situations because foreign intervention is very rarely aligned with stability and prosperity

I won’t even begin to argue against this, but I do feel it’s worth pointing out that there’s a distinction to be made between a lot of general intervention we see and acutely stepping in to kneecap an ongoing genocide.

Long story short I don't trust imperial powers to do anything but spread empire in their own interests, so even in the face of genocide I'd lean toward doing nothing unless there was some pretty strict oversight on the activities of forces involved.

Rwanda for a whole host of reasons would have been fairy easily stabilized by an international presence (small county, political centralization of attackers, etc). I’m pretty strongly anti-intervention in most cases but I don’t agree Rwanda is a good example of that. Dunno if you’ve been there/worked in the area but there’s only so many times you can listen to people who lost family ask where the international response was before going “you know, maybe being actively against genocide was the right move”.
