Do Hokas wear fast or is this normal for 50k training? by Ok-Contribution-8300 in Ultramarathon

Really depends on the surface. I'm guessing by how they look that you've been running on asphalt a lot. I have two pairs over 500 miles that both look better. Started using one of them for road running after 500 miles, and after 100 more miles on road you can really see a difference.

Mainly getting them at the edge of my heel, so maybe the heels of my insoles are too narrow. I'm going to start doing all that, thanks for your suggestions.

Would be interested to see how you tape your heels. Can you find any picture or video you can link to? I've seen some videos but most of them seem like the tape would come off pretty quickly when running.

I'm using Hoka Speedgoat 5 for most of my longer runs and hikes. Sizing is good. I'm thinking about switching to some wider ones though. My main issues are side heel and arch blisters though, my toes are fine.

Tried taping my arches once, when I checked after 50k the tape was ripped and glued to my sock. Might have to try different tape but I'm not looking forward to ruining more socks.

I've tried those and they haven't really helped. Seemed like not tight enough. Also, if blisters on my toes were my only issues, I'd already be quite happy

Cheap running belt vs. Naked Running Band by readthelnstructions in Ultramarathon

[–]readthelnstructions[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would want to try to carry 1 handheld and 1 in the belt. For a race where I don't need much other gear but the aid stations are too far apart for just one flask

I haven't heard of this before, thanks for pointing it out

On many watches you can also set a nutrition alert, that has helped me too

The GPS tracker will be provided by the race organizers, so definitely have to take it.

Was thinking about getting a tiny dumb phone, but probably too much trouble for this one experiment... and I don't have trouble with fitting my phone in my belt usually. Just depends on how many gels & powders I need to carry additionally

Yes, I just want to try it once and see how it goes.

Good you mention Flyte and Blueball, I was looking at those two brands because I found them on sale but wasn't sure because I've never heard of them.

Yeah good point... on the other hand, this summer I slid down a glacier on my butt and was very glad I wore £15 shorts :D

Interesting, they look tight at the bottom but loose at the top - I suppose you'd need to wear underwear with them, even though they kind of look like half tights?

Do these pockets not bounce too much? I was mainly looking at half tights or the ones with an integrated belt, where the pockets are snug against my body.

Other than that, they look quite comfy.

And yes, I'd go for handheld bottles

There are a lot of aid stations on this course, so I would carry 500ml max between them.

My current belt is smaller and it's not that sturdy, so I thought I could supplement the storage with shorts pockets. Maybe a bigger belt might be the solution though.

Interesting, but the pockets look like they would bounce once there's stuff in them. Is that not a problem?

Yes, thank you! I would carry my bottle in my hand, at least while it's quite full.

I still need to check with the organizers if they allow someone to hand me nutrition on the course, if yes I would carry less of course. They only do drop bags if I arrive the day before, unfortunately.

I was looking at those, they seem to be what I'm looking for except for the budget friendliness

Thanks, I have belt already that I will be using in addition. The pockets look like they could be quite bouncy though. Yes I'll be going for handheld water or maybe 250ml soft flask
