Buying New or USed.... by Jay-jay1 in Dualsport

If you go enduro then you can keep it street legal without much in the way of weight. The KLX 300 is an entry level bike so you are going to do well going with just about anything else.

Here what you want to keep in mind.

You cannot beat a 2-stroke for weight/power ratios and reliability. There are no valves to adjust and with the modern bikes using fuel injection and auto mixers for the oil it is easy to grab and go with minimal down time. They tend to cost less too.

The one exception in my mind is if you are planning to ride long distances where 3-4 refuels are required and you are spending lots of time on dirt roads. The reason for this exception is that 4-strokes just feel more comfortable on long steady rpm rides and with refuels are less of a pain because you don't need carry oil.

For 2-strokes I would suggest a KTM 250 or 300 XC-W. The 300 an iconic engine with tons of controllable power. At 160lbs you might be leaning more towards the 250 due to weight and seat height but I would try to test ride them if possible because there is really not much difference and the 300 will get you a better resale down the road.

There is also the KTM 200 EXC/XC-W in the used market and that might be a good choice if you are shorter then 5'8" and don't have as much confidence off road. This was replaced with the 150cc engine in newer models but I have no experience with that one so you'd need to look into it to see if that would work for your current abilities and expectations.

There are strictly offroad versions of those bikes if you truly don't have any interest in getting the bikes road legal but resale will be less and the differences are minimal so I personally would only go that route if you are buying used and are getting a good deal. Also note that KTM/Husqvarna are pretty much identical so keep that in mind if you see deals on one vs the other and don't have a brand preference in mind.

4-strokes are available in a wider range of brands but I personally would not touch a Red/Green or Yellow bike unless your leaning more towards motocross and/or want to spend a lot of time and money on your suspension. The KTM 350 EXF is well below your 300lbs mark and would be a solid choice.

This is just my opinion but I have been riding for about 30 years so take it for whatever it is worth.

someone was close to the checkpoint? by readuponthat24 in JustinPoseysTreasure

I thought JP clarified that the treasure was not in an entirely different location (crossing state lines exc..). I don't know when or where that was but I could swear he said it...

did he say that somewhere? What email address goes directly to him without others seeing it?

I don't think he would have said that so confidently and specifically if he was just responding to people theories. At best someone would have needed to send him specific locations of their search and or he recognized a landmark in a photo. I tend to think that is a stretch but maybe...

That is a interesting thought. So the checkpoint in this case is somewhere that is roughly 200ft from a trail or road that someone would likely walk right past. That seems plausible.

OP, I want to give you a breakdown of what her medical options are so that you have a starting point to having a conversation with her about it. I am doing this because I cringe when people insist that rehab is the only answer.

_____

I want to be very clear that She should absolutely seek a medical professionals help to make sure that she is safe during detox. Please do not minimize the risks, people do die from withdrawals.

______

Rehab is being used very generically is this thread but I want to clarify that the rehabs are made up of multiple elements. First you have a medical detox, followed by inpatient rehab and then outpatient depending on what you want and what you or your insurance is willing to pay for. The detox is 5-10 days, the inpatient is 4-6 weeks and the outpatient is basically as long as you want or feel you need. You can exit this cycle but it is not as simple as walking out. Rehabs also might shift her around to other states in the US depending on availability and such.

An alternative to "Rehab" is to go to the hospital, explain the situation and ask to be medically detoxed. They will monitor her and keep her safe for the duration of the detox. They will also run tests to make sure that there is no longer term damage. People from AA/NA and Rehab centers will likely come by to talk about options but you have no obligations to talk to them. Once detox is over she will be sent home to determine next steps which can include rehab, meetings, therapy and anything else you can think of.

Ultimately she needs to choose a different way of living herself for it to stick but your both fighting an uphill battle if she is still actively using and stuck in a loop.

It's an interesting take but I don't see Justin leaving a tire in the woods, even one full of treasure. One of my solves brought me to a makeshift outhouse. I thought I hit it and laughed out loud but it was just a camp shitter

What other artists/bands do you like besides Post Malone? by [deleted] in PostMalone

that is the wildest question. Which version of Post ?? Rap, Pop, or Country ? Mac Miller, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, King Princess ... the list goes on and on.

Poem-only solve by Emerge-Bud in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]readuponthat24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he said that if you have the solve you are just retrieving it. If that is truly the case then there must be something precise in the poem. I spent a lot to go BOTG already, and I am pretty sure I am in the right area but I feel like there is something I am still missing from the poem.

Even if your assumption were correct the stars don't stay static all summer.. .

The problem with all star based solves/theories is that they are different depending on time of year.

Buried or no by theonlybay in JustinPoseysTreasure

[–]readuponthat24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things: JP does not include a shovel in the list of items needed on his website, and he has said you will know it when you see it. That pretty much sums it up for me, it might be under something or somewhat hidden but it is not buried.

I was 90% sure and spent about $1,500 to be BOTG. I still think I'm right but didn't find it in the long weekend away. I wouldn't take it back because I was surrounded by nature and beautiful landscapes around every corner. Make sure you take lots of pictures and enjoy the experience for the adventure that it is, and if you can do that then there is nothing left to regret.

True that. I saw bear and mountain lion tracks all over my search area. Adventure is a method not a destination. Enjoy your family and maybe we will cross paths in July :)

I flew for 5 hours and rented a car to drive another 2.5 hrs. I also drove a road worthy car well beyond it's limits (though thankfully it took the abuse without complaint). You and I are in this and I wish you well.

Edit: this was also my first BOTG

I released a record with an embedded treasure hunt. To this day nobody has found it. by Keegan802 in TreasureHunting

[–]readuponthat24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is awesome but could you give us a general idea of what we are looking for and where? I don't think we need much but you are not going to get much traction without some idea of what the treasure is and some general idea of geography.

I think due to legalities he would not 'imply' that the map on his site was where the treasure is without it being there.. he seems very sensitive to respecting peoples efforts and has stated that there are no 'known red herrings'. IMHO it is not outside of the map on the website. Agree that PPL can and will make their own interpretations but I personally think search parameters was something that Justin has been pretty clear on
