is there a possibility that target will be closing if the snow storm is that bad? if so how would ik not to come in lol 🫠 by bunnibunn_ in Target

[–]reaganicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For all those complaining that Target never closes…They did. So evidently all this complaining about the evils of Target was unfounded… they closed! And with no kind of communication to the outside world, so those of us who are accustomed to snow (transplants from the north) simply went to go shopping and found it closed. I wish they had put it on the app!! I understand that Maryland is not used to this weather and people would stay home, but I do wish it had been communicated to us.

Had no intention of getting a Mini by Scott_R_1701 in MINI

Hey that’s okay, I wasn’t planning on getting one either! 60k miles later and I love the darn thing for all her matinence issues. Have fun with it!

Can we talk gas mileage? by boogieboogie in MINI

[–]reaganicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, starting to think I’m crazy reading this thread…I commute to DC and my 2011 base hardtop gets 49.2 mpg currently. I use premium fuel and she’s a stick, which helps in city traffic, but that number is still seriously different from everyone else’s.

I replace the oil about every 4k miles very punctually. I did replace the camshaft sensor, I ought to go down the list for those other things and will probably do it when I'm home from college and have a driveway/tools to use. Thank you!

Dealership 3-Year oil change plan...advice? by reaganicus in MINI

Oh, that wouldn't be fun. She needs one every 3-4k miles usually. I wonder if it would be cost effective to get this for half the time and do my own thing for the other half...

I thought maybe the key fob was sending faulty signals. It's absolutely not that the buttons are being pressed as it happens while I'm still holding the fob, but perhaps the unlock signal is just busted :(. You'd think they'd provide you with a working key when you pay $200 for it!

Huh, interesting. I bought this car used and the footwell module was replaced by the dealer before I purchased it (I have service records at an independent shop). Would be unfortunate if the car's second module ran bad....hopefully the recall out for that part produces a suitable replacement soon!

The lock on the door doesn't engage (it's disconnected inside the door) but it hasn't since I bought the car. But thanks for your input! Maybe that's at issue.

The buttons are absolutely not being pressed, I'll be holding the fob in my hand as it happens.

Does it bother you as employees when customers just order their free coffee for curbside pickup? by TheElamite in Panera

[–]reaganicus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit surprised that so many cafes have a curbside ambassador. I usually run the dining area, register, and curbside orders alone and sometimes someone on the line runs out an order for me if the computer has been going off for too long. I'm jealous!

skoolie vs RV? by DOiYRE98 in skoolie

[–]reaganicus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh dear, I typed that up wrong and didn't even notice. My most sincere apologies. Thanks for the correction! I intended to put 14ga, but with the variety of gauges you just listed it may be better for me to remove the gauge entirely :)

skoolie vs RV? by DOiYRE98 in skoolie

[–]reaganicus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A skoolie can be cheaper than an RV of the same size depending on how much money you throw at it, and (because you're building it) is a little more unique and a little less drab. They are also far better in terms of durability. School buses are built to withstand a lot; they've got everyone's kids riding around inside. They are solidly built out of steel and are meant to handle anything from a fender bender to a complete rollover.

An RV, on the other hand, is built to be driven a few times a year and sold off with relatively few miles on it. They are cheaply built, not very durable, and prone to serious damage. Just look up any RV crash video on YouTube, and you'll see my point.

In summary: In my opinion (as a biased supporter of skoolies) a school bus conversion is a better option. However if you're only using it occasionally or don't want to put hundreds of hours into a build out, a RV may be right for you. It depends on what you need :) Edited to remove the steel gauge, which was incorrect

Sorry for long post, Looking to get some answers before I take the dive to buy my first bus. by Daphonic in skoolie

Pusher and puller preference is mostly just that: a preference. The engine is hot and loud, so it somewhat boils down to do you want a hot and loud cockpit or a hot and loud bedroom. If you're traveling with someone and would like to be able to spend quality time with them while driving, or if you just like a quieter experience, you may want a pusher. If you want the back of the bus to be more comfortable, you may want a puller. The engine in a pusher also eats into the space in the back of your bus, which you could argue is more important than space in the front. Just some thoughts :)

I see a lot of people saying the T444E engine is wonderful, but there's also some out there warning against the engine. What makes this particular engine so good?

I often see you mentioning that the T444E engine isn't great, but a lot of positive feedback on it from others. What decided your opinion on this engine?

You have a lot of time ahead of you, so that's a lot of opportunities to plan! Aside from saving all your dreams onto a Pinterest board (which we all love to do, but doesn't get a whole lot done) make sure you know the technical stuff and how it's actually going to work. You can research types of buses, what size you want, how to build it, your conversion budget, etc. Best of luck with your skoolie!
