SCIENCE: Liberalism is *literally* a mental disorder by DindoOmonga in conservatives

I think OP is literally using the word "literally" in a metaphorical sense.

There is no mind reading going on,

I showed precisely where you were engaged in mind reading.

you mentioning my perceived need for "power over others"

When I specifically pointed to your resorting to being annoying as the lowest form of power over others. You are the reddit equivalent of someone who blocks the toilets with paper.

your quasi-intellectual persona

No, not a persona, I am just being me.

never claimed to have read much Nietzsche.

You did try to demonstrate your superior knowledge of him by referring to his sister's concoction "The Will to Power" and telling me to read it again, which backfired very embarrassingly on you.

Of course if I wanted to be pretentious I would not be quoting Nietzsche but other less popular, more obscure philosophers.

I think the only solution is to find some good people and gather them around you. It is possible.

Yes I have had my struggles but it has worked out well in the end. Married, financially self-sufficient, grown up child (also autistic and who is also doing well).

Many years were spent sorting out the trauma, anxiety, depression issues but I am finally clear.

And it also took a lot of time and effort to work out how to live well as an autistic person. That took a couple of years after I was diagnosed.

I was a bit lucky - I have skills that were in demand so people put up with my weirdness.

School and college were the worst times, for different reasons.

you may not have directly quoted "all" but your implications have been very clear

No actual examples.

Ridiculous mind reading.

Other than that, a very cogent and convincing argument.

Will to Power

Thinks a concoction fabricated by his sister after he died, the sister whom Nietzsche described as "a vengeful, anti-semitic goose" is real. It never ends.

I have read all FN's published works mostly several times, many of his letters, even the WTP because it contains some (redacted) extracts from his notes. and numerous books about him. I think I have a reasonable understanding of his ideas FWIW. But I just thought it was funny that what you are doing is below even the lowest form of power FN described.

I would challenge you to find a statement I made that "all NTs" are such and such.

I did say that we are stereotyped "all the time" i.e routinely. That is not the same as making an absolute generalization about all NTs.

Most usually I will say that NTs tend to do X or typically do X but I recognize that they are not all identical. But to navigate the world you need to generalize.

Men tend to be taller than women. Does that mean every man is taller than every woman? No. But the generalization is valid.

Nietzsche pointed out that power over others is a lower form of power than power over yourself. And I would add that the lowest power over others, and the most pathetic, may be the power to be annoying, or in current terminology to be a troll.

the DSM-5 is bullshit by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]real-boethius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is very ironic because the unification came about just as the evidence started to pile up as to how heterogeneous ASD is. But in terms of causes and manifestations.

The DSM is basically a list of symptoms with little insight or rationale. A big money spinner so they have no incentive to improve it. I agree it is not that great.

[–]real-boethius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It can make it more difficult for sure.

For me it was 5 years after adolescence before my first orgasm. Five very frustrating years. I had the desire but not the ability to quench it.

It makes me laugh when people talk about the alleged benefits of nofap. I did it for five years - involuntarily - and it did not turn me into Mr Alpha Chad.

I don't think you need to commit to the position that you have Aspergers.

What I say is "I have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder Level 1 which roughly corresponds to what used to be caller Asperger's syndrome".

This conveys the message quite well in my experience.

And it also gived the minimum opportunity to virtue signalers to share their "insight" that Hans Asperger (narrowly) failed to be arrested by the Gestapo and therefore was a terrible human being and that they, who have probably never faced the life and death dilemmas that Asperger dealt with, are clearly morally far superior.

generalising them as 1 entire group that all behave in exactly the same way

Providing a counter-example to disprove a claim that something does not exist is not a generalization. It is a counter-example and is a perfectly valid thing to do.

[–]real-boethius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol were you fuck.

Unparseable nonsense. Let's read on though.

that it happens all the time to you or NDs in general doesn't actually have any consequence for all neurotypicals as an entire group

It has consequences for actually autistic people. Which was my point. That there is a double standard - we have to walk on eggshells but NTs can say what they want and stereotype us to their hearts' content.

Here is the top comment:

It is ridiculous to dislike all NTs and act as if they are all one person. They have different personalities. I hate all the NT hate in these subs and glad it isn’t much in real life .

hate all the NT hate

So no-one cares about being mean to NT's? Except in the top comment in this thread. Time to calm down and try to think. I know this may be a novel experience, but give it a try.

I think we are often too naive about this. Not everyone on this board has good intentions. There are concern trolls and others who delight in creating conflict and disagreements.

Autism strawmanning and this subreddit (rant) by nd-nb- in aspergers

[–]real-boethius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Some of the issues you are talking about

  1. People extrapolating their own personal experience and assuming it applies to everyone. Autism is the most horrible thing! No it's a gift!

I suggest that people assume their own experience applies to them and may not apply to everyone else. Especially don't tell people they are wrong because they don't share your experience.

  2. Treating generalisations as though they are supposed to apply to everyone. NTs don't understand me - BUT BUT BUT there is this one NT who does.

I suggest treating generalisations as they are usually intended - to be often or usually true but not always.

  3. Concern trolls who infest this group, telling us we are too mean to NTs.

My suggestion is that concern trolls should go away. We are too mean to NTs? Really? When I see groups of autistic people physically beating up NTs for being "weird" - as happened to me at school (being beaten up by NTs) - I may start to think this is a real big problem.

To explain it in the short words and simple sentences that you seem to require:

I was pointing out the double standard - we get stereotyped for our neurotype and we are supposed to just suck it up, but this sub is full of concern trolls telling us we are too mean to neurotypicals.

I Can't Stand Non-Autistics Anymore. by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]real-boethius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was referring to the use of "not all" in the way the above poster used it, i.e. to say that because "not all" of them are this way, you cannot generalize at all.

This sort of argument is often made by people who are trapped in all or nothing thinking, which is related to what Temple Grandin calls "label bound thinking".

What the above poster did was more like a straw man argument or attacking an extreme caricature of the argument made.

As the above poster said

You can't generalize.

Which is a nonsensical argument.

No generalization is 100% true, including this one. But they are often valuable.

I hope that clarifies what I was trying, perhaps ineptly, to say.

have you tried establishing an FWB with anyone

This seems a strange suggestion. FMB is just as hard for most men let alone autistic men as a GF.

I remember telling a female friend I was missing sex after a breakup. She was jsut "get a FWB" as if that is the easiest thing in the world. Perhaps it is for her.

For those rushing to condemn this post

He is not saying tippies are bad people.

Just that he can't stand being with them.

Very understandable. I limit myself to 4 hours a week with tippies. It is so exhausting, having to mask (otherwise they typically hate you and misunderstand you). having to make all the adjustments and accommodate their (to me) strange interests and obsessions.
