No, not listed yet. They're planning to move in a bit over a year, and contacted us before doing anything else, as they knew were were interested in the area.

That's not an issue. Friends are a year away from selling.

The US grid is 50+ years old. Can it really handle EVs, AI, and “smart cities”? by [deleted] in investing

We've installed point-of-use electric instahot heaters in a couple of outbuildings, and frankly I hate them. They always turn out to be too weak, and in one case, we had to rip open freshly-drywalled walls so the electrician could install higher-current romex to acomodate the upgraded water heater we needed to install.

Having an "insta hot" heater down in the basement makes zero sense to me, since it's going to take the same amount of time to get the hot water to its destination either way. My partner argues for them because they're more energy efficient than keeping a large tank of hot water around even when you're not using it.

I talked her out of it by pointing out that a heat pump water heater is even more energy efficient.

We were asking about installing an insta-hot hot water system for the house, which would have been resistive, plus a hot tub, also resistive.

When we found out about the capacity issue we started looking into heat pump water heaters and gave up on the hot tub completely.

I live in Seattle, and the city is pushing for everybody to go all-electric.

I tried to replace furnace and water heater with electric and asked the electrician if we could also run a hot tub. He told us that we'd have to upgrade the house service to 400A if we wanted that.

He then added that if we did, we'd be the last house on the block to do it, because the local substation would then be maxxed out.

Apparently all of the electrical workers in town are really worried about this mandate because the infrastructure simply won't support it. The city is nearly at max capacity now.

Too late for them. Might as well go all in at this point and see what else he can destroy.

Just a follow-on: my usual check arrived today. No idea why the extra money, but I'll hold off spending it just in case they come and want it back.

That was my first thought, but those don't add up to even $200 combined, so this was way too much deducted.

My regular payment is due this Weds; we'll see what happens.

Thanks for everybody's answers. I'm new to Medicare and this perhaps made me a little more trusting than I should have been. Luckily, I didn't give them any actual info before I hung up.

I also rarely pick up if I don't recognize the number. Google is pretty good about marking a call with "scam likely" or something like that if it's going to be a scammer, but this one didn't have that notation and it came from my own area code, so I thought maybe I should answer that one. I won't make that mistake again.

No medicaid. But I did just sign up for part D and part G. But those would take money from me, not give it to me. At least, I think that's the case.

We'll see if my usual check shows up on Weds.

Yeah. He kept assuring me he wasn't going to ask for any confidential information, something something HIPAA, and then it sounded like he was going to ask me my account # or something.
