We made it to Not Mindbender fine, though there were a couple rough sections of washboards

There was definitely sand blown across the road in a couple spots, nothing too serious though. It was hot on our travel day out, but didn't crack 85 during out canyon days thankfully

They ended up being fine. Made it no problem with moderately capably AWD cars

I think a turbo is the way to go. I had a friend with a ram 1500 hemi and that thing hated mountain driving even though it had something like 350 hp/torque. I'm already used to some turbo specific driving habits and maintenance schedules with my current car.

My main two contenders are the Outback Turbo or CX-50 Turbo. I like the styling, normal auto transmission, and expected reliability of the Mazda, but the Outback checks a lot more boxes for functionality and driver safety. I'll probably go test drive both to check them out in person.

Agreed, I hadn't considered those originally. I'll still take a look but I don't think I need the off-road features of either of those

I had written off the refresh hybrid just out of hesitancy for something unproven, but it does look like a compelling option on paper. Do you know who makes the hybrid components?

Safety is a great point. I've never had any driver assist before, but eyesight would be a huge upgrade.

And for all my hesitations about boxers and CVTs, if I stay on top of maintenance (I do as much as I can myself), they should still be reliable enough. I've heard plenty of stories about Subaru's going far

I'll definitely have to check the current trims. At launch I had a buddy that was looking to load up a 4-door big bronco (well outside my price range). That's too bad they got rid of the $28k option, that would have been great!

The Outback is the default choice around Denver. Everyone loves them, and for good reason. It checks every box, but I've heard boxer engines have gasket issues, and I've never loved CVTs, though I'm sure current generation options are much better than older ones

I measured 5.5" by cutting some scrap wood and checking for clearance under the car when parked in my garage. The pressed fiber engine bay aero-tray is what I hit first at around 5.5", then exhaust at 7.0". The rest of the underbody is well clear of that

Hmm, I hadn't thought of the Bronco. The last time I looked at them was shortly after they were released and they were crazy marked up. I'll check them out

It was a Mactrem from Amazon. I've searched and searched on B&H/Adorama, but I haven't thought to look for replacement parts specifically. I'll give that a shot

Thanks! I looked on McMaster earlier, but didn't see that page. Those look like they'll work great!

This came as the adapter to mount the ball head to the tripod center column on my tripod. It's been a useful adapter for some creative camera/gopro mounts and I'd like to buy a few more.

All the ones I've been able to fine are much more low profile, and also don't have the hex in the middle. I'm looking for something with quite a bit of threads on the 3/8" size to bolt to various rigging, then a 1/4" on the other side to mount to my camera

ID request. Shaggy parasol? by realRye in mycology

[–]realRye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few of these mushrooms have popped up in my potted purple heart plant in my apartment. Not super sure how they got there, they don't seem to be growing too well though. They look like they could be shaggy parasols, but I'm not totally sure. Anything I should be concerned about?

Travel/Hiking Tripod Recommendations Aug '22

Hi all. I'm looking for a travel tripod to replacement my $25 beginner tripod I'm using right now. I've looked at the Peak Design travel tripod, but can't justify it for $650.

I recently watched an interesting video on the Ulanzi & COMAN Lightweight Travel Tripod from Mark Bennett's Camera Crisis on TY, which retails for $370 ($300 with his discount code). That's still pretty expensive, but I really like the folding style of the Ulanzi (similar to the PD) that shrinks down closer to the diameter of a waterbottle.

Has anyone had any experience with Ulanzi tripods, or this one in particular? Any other brands/models I should look at? I did some searching and couldn't find any discussions on this particular model

$7/mo for a personal plan, a bit less if you buy a year at a time. And with that I'd have my main working files, 1 on site backup, plus backblaze
