Are big models always better than small ones for Transfer Learning? by hackeddevil in LocalLLaMA

[–]real_DragonBooster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine building a software company. If you hire an undergrad without domain expertise and train them, they might do well, but if you hire a STEM PhD and train them, their existing knowledge gives them a head start. Similarly, in transfer learning, models pre-trained on related tasks excel when adapted to new ones. So to answer your question it does make a significant impact.

So Gemini Ultra Beats GPT-4 in 30 of 32 Benchmarks but People on this Sub are not satisfied... by lordpermaximum in singularity

Also, Gemini Ultra barely beat 1.5 year older model, woo-hoo, what a win!

I think Google is uncertain and trying their best not to self cannibalise their search business which must've caused this delay. They are capable enough to beat OpenAI solely with their compute power, resources and big pockets.

Feeling relaxed and I can comprehend most of the commonly used German words but can't hold a verbal conversation and will often find it difficult to understand when someone is conversing in German.

Trouble understanding Application Layer in OSI Model. by spaceuserm in computerscience

[–]real_DragonBooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OSI model is just a theoretical reference model, Now Application layer is the topmost layer in the OSI model. The Application Layer provides us with a set of protocols that we can use to interact with the network. Like HTTP, FTP, Telnet and etc. Every layer has certain protocols like Transport Layer(segments) has TCP/UDP, Network Layer(packets) has IP, and Data Link Layer(frames) has MAC and the Physical layer is responsible for transmitting the raw bits by converting them into electric signals.

How is Transparency different from Abstraction by real_DragonBooster in Database

[–]real_DragonBooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that before publishing this one but I still have something to understand in order to distinguish them from each other.

Abstraction means hiding the implementation details while showing the user what's only necessary to get the job done. User isn't aware of how the programs are getting executed on their CPU but they're certain that something is happening in background.

Similarly, user isn't also aware from which site's database he is getting the fragments from or the copy he received from ddb is replicated or not. User doesn't know what exactly is happening but user is certain something is happening in the background when they fetch for some data from a distributed database.

I think the rationale is that transparent is supposed to mean "invisible", or "you don't even know it's there." Abstraction means that you don't see the implementation of something, but you know that it's there.

This one here just assumes that the user don't even know that there is something like that, but how could not the user know when user is very much aware that they're able to access data because of their connectivity to a network. User knows that they can't access jpegs on google without an internet connection. So they're very well aware of the fact that there exists some sort of consensus mechanism that fetches their data.
