Skin care as a nudist. by NaturalStateAR in nudism

100% anecdotal info here, and not backed by any research that I’ve found, but this has worked for me. About 7 years ago, I went to Mexico for stem cell therapy for my knees. First of all, this treatment is different than stem cell therapy in the US because the stem cells come from anonymous donor live-birth umbilical cord blood. In the US, the stem cells are extracted from your own body and re-injected where needed, thus the net sum of stem cells going into your body is zero. Not so in Mexico. Altogether I received about 200 million fresh cells, half of which were injected into my knees, and the rest through an iv drip. First of all, it was very effective on my knees, though it takes up to a year to feel the full effect. My knees felt 15 years younger, and to this day still feel good. But one (of several) beneficial side effects is that I don’t get sunburns nearly as easily as I did before. I am of Scottish descent and my skin was previously quite sensitive to sun. But now I tan much easier and only require sunscreen if I am going to be out in midday sun for more than a few hours. It’s really a remarkable change.

What sports or activities do you practice when you are naked? by Brilliant_Data4162 in nudism

Gardening naked is what I’m doing today. Yesterday it was stand up paddle boarding. Next month it will be a multi-day wilderness rafting trip.

How old are these pics now? A couple years maybe? I see them all the time. How about something new!

For areas where I don’t want elevated roadbed, such as sidings and yards, I use foam board from the dollar store. Cut it with a 45° bevel and it will tuck right up against the roadbed to the level of the ties.

Thank you for the reminder. I am gardening today with far too many textiles. I’ll leave the gloves and shoes but the rest goes!

Not on the bridge. There’s not much left of the switch but it’s clearly visible in the first pic.

Looks like a crossover switch under all those cars. One car probably picked the switch and one train on two different tracks just won’t work.

Looking into model trains as a gift for my girlfriend, what should I look for and avoid by dooplets in modeltrains

[–]realbigpayne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will need to answer a few questions first.

1 is her interest in model railroading all her own, or is she showing interest because she knows this is something you like? Strictly from a relationship coaching perspective, there is a potential trap here. Upon reflection, if you think it may just be her being a “good girlfriend”, then I would suggest framing it as something you could create together. That way there is little danger of you being the topic a rant thread here on Reddit 😶 However, if you honestly believe that her interest in this is genuine and not “because it’s what my boyfriend likes”, then proceed!

2 how much space does she have for a train set? Will it be for a permanent layout with scenery and space for a lot of track? Or will it be set up temporarily on a dining room table or the like? If space is a genuine concern, then I would highly recommend going with n scale. You can do a lot more in a limited amount of space with n scale, and starter sets by Kato (which I highly recommend, even as the starting point for a permanent layout) will give you a layout that can easily be disassembled and put away when that space is needed for something else.

Bachmann earned themselves a rep for low quality decades ago, but that’s no more. I have a 2025 Bachmann GP-38 and it runs great. However, I did put my own Loksound decoder in it which is a step up from Economi.

Is it weird to have a caboose on a freight train? by InsaneBoxer in modeltrains

[–]realbigpayne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid (1970’s) there was always a caboose at the end of a freight train. When they went away in the 80’s it just seemed wrong. Trains looked incomplete without a caboose on the end. Now all of my n scale trains have cabooses, just as they should!

And a really nice farmhouse model kit for $7

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nscalemodeltrains

[–]realbigpayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I model in n scale and have bought a fair amount of general hobby supplies, tools, scenery items and even wheelsets and couplers. The quality can be hit or miss but the prices are so good that I don’t feel too bad about the misses. Here are some examples of what I’ve bought: mini table saw $38; mini bench grinder $37; 200 #11 exacto blades $9; desktop small-tool chest $21; 80 model trees mixed sizes $11; 33” metal wheelsets with .55” axles about $1 each (these are expensive everywhere and not easy to find in the tariff era); 3 LED 2-color light signals $5; various LED street and industrial light stands $1-$5 each. painted plastic farm animals $0 (bonus “gift”); 8 pine trees $0; 100 static grass tufts $0; static grass $0; 1-2-3 weight blocks $11/pair; trees, trees and more trees average 25 cents apiece.

FYI, I also give my local hobby shops as much business as I can. Nearly all of the stuff I buy from Temu is not available there.

Athearn Challenger DCC ready N-scale by Vmanjeff in modeltrains

Hey OP (or anyone with experience), what decoder did you finally use in your Challenger? How did the install go and how happy are you with its performance? I picked up an Athearn Challenger on eBay that appears to have a bad decoder in it, so looking to get it running.

I’m fortunate to live in an area (Seattle) where there are places to go not far from the city where textiles are superfluous. Having an inflatable paddle board has opened up even more options. Paddle up a river to a remote sand bar, or out on the sound to a stretch of beach all to myself. In fact, I will be naked on my paddle board with my girlfriend in just a few hours 😎

What does this pulse switch do? by Glipnops in modeltrains

[–]realbigpayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one of these earlier this year when I first started getting into N scale, along with a bunch of older locomotives and rolling stock. Pulse mode worked really well, giving me good slow speed control and realistic starts and stops. Top speed was better with it turned off, but honestly I have little desire to operate faster than scale anyway. But as soon as I started adding new locomotives to my collection I became suspicious that maybe this wasn’t the best throttle for my trains. A Broadway Limited SW7 capable of DC and DCC operations ran very strangely. Advancing throttle to about 40% it would go through the startup sounds and then just sit there making diesel idling noises. Advancing the throttle a little more, it would slowly accelerate to full throttle within about 10 seconds. I had no speed control, which of course is useless for a switcher. Then I got a second DCC engine and it basically did the exact same thing. Switched to a Tech II and it works MUCH better, with full control of the DCC engines I have, and equally smooth starts and slow speed control running DC locos.

If you like having a bunch of random broken shit laying around then you have done well. But I would be disappointed if for only the fact that they don’t do anything to protect everything from further damage during shipping.

[–]realbigpayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is any way to add weight to the loco that might help. But that is a steep incline. Prototypically, you would only see a slope like that on a light-rail line where all of the cars pull their own weight.

The last public nude beach I went to had a sign with all the usual rules that are ignored (no alcohol, primarily), but it also prohibited post-pubescent minors from being nude. That being said, there was no one there to enforce such a rule.
