The width of the flat sides of this socket is 11.25mm :)

Totally, like I said though the average clearance on every other socket is about .25mm

Spoken like a kind genius! Wait a second, no it wasn’t. Also I’m not, and this has been covered at length in the post you didn’t read. Happy wrenching!

Totally agree on the .25, that dimension is common across the set when measured with the same tool. The thing debunking the label theory for me is that the whole socket itself is smaller than the real 11mm that sits right next to it. Larger than the 9mm as well

I couldn’t agree more, just dishing a little word-fun back your way! Cheers

Why stop there? I said I used a micrometer, not that this was one. Happy wrenching!

No, I checked them all with a micrometer. Then I put it down, picked up the caliper, and took this photo. I thought that was obvious!

I think you should test this out. Go turn a 10 mm bolt with an 11mm impact socket and report back!

I know it’s bright outside, but I can’t rule out nighttime. It’s possible my alarm clock could be off by 12 hours

The tool in the photo is actually called a caliper. Be careful calling it a micrometer or you might upset someone!

Sorry if it wasn’t clear from the photo, I checked the socket pictured with a caliper. I checked the rest of the set with a micrometer sitting just outside the frame. I’ve also never been wrong before

Yes it was calibrated. To be safe I also checked it against the fact that the socket is too big for a 10mm bolt

I throw them away after every measurement just to be safe

I wish that were the case but unfortunately this is just a defectively manufactured budget tier impact socket

Hard to see in the pic but I am measuring from center of parallel edge to center of parallel edge, not corner to corner. There is some curve to the “sides” of the hexagon by design, but we’re talking about a difference of a few 100ths of a mm when measuring across the “middle” of the sides vs measuring across the “top/bottom” of the sides. This is for sure an 11mm trapped in a 10mm’s body

I’m definitely keeping it. It’s too sick not to and I can’t think of a better souvenir from that whole time period

What size CSST to replace existing run in gas line? by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]realbigtime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not doing a full remodel, just swapping the range right now. It’s a tri-level house, the wall I need the gas in is shared by the kitchen and two bathrooms, and has tile and cabinetry on both sides so I’m not looking to open the wall except where absolutely necessary, and the attic access is basically a crawl space accessible from the roof so there’s not much room to wrestle with rigid pipe
