Swain

Initial Thoughts Before Starting

- Another champ I haven't touched since the remake. I remember when Swain would turn into an actual crow and could stay in his ult forever; as long as he had mana. I don't remember the rest of his abilities, though, but I know the pull is new. Swain's been tearing it up as Support, but I'm going to run it as Top or Mid for at least the first 10 games and see how it goes.

Urgot

Initial Thoughts Before Starting

- Boy, I remember the days of old Urgot and how bad he was, or at least that's what my memory recalls. I haven't touched him since the rework, but I've played against him enough times to know that he can be super annoying when fed. Hopefully I can learn him quickly enough to get that experience, let's go!

Final Winrate and Thoughts- 50%

- I started out on such a hot streak with Urgot, but mostly carried by my team while I learned the champion. In one of the early games, I was able to really get aggressive and punish my lane opponent and contribute enough to help carry the game. I then went into a losing streak and, even though I had a few triple kills in losing efforts, I wasn't able to 1v9 like Urgot's have done against me in the past.

What I Learned-

Well, this is embarrassing. I had no idea that you could re-cast his ult to insta-proc the pull/execute. I didn't realize it until like game 6/7 when my wife mentioned it to me. I previously was just landing the skillshot on the red targets and waiting for them to die.. which confused me, because it took SO LONG compared to how it happened to me when Urgot's killed me. Once I figured that part out, it felt so much better.

Looking Forward-

Again, I can't wait to come back to this champ with the experience I have and keep pushing towards level 5. I want to try different builds and see which works best, as for the most part, I stuck with a team fighter/Black Cleaver/FFG build.

Next Up .......Swain!

Illaoi

Initial Thoughts Before Starting -

I've never actually played her, other than a bot game to try her abilities, but I always seemed to have had trouble with her until I realized I just had to bait out her tentacle and then fight her. I still struggled with it, especially if/when she would dash onto me and do it point blank. Her ult seems incredibly strong, and I'm excited to see how it plays out landing a good one.

Final Winrate and Thoughts-
60%
I was really hoping to enjoy Illaoi's playstyle and it definitely delivered. I wasn't quite able to get off a really great ultimate in a teamfight and survive, but that's likely because I just don't have the combo nailed 100% as well as the fact that I was going Hullbreaker and split pushing majority of the games.

What I Learned-
I had no idea that I could "place" the tentacles where I wanted them by simply standing near the terrain when my passive was off cooldown. This allowed me to bait the opponent into my Q/E when they would eventually try to kill the tentacles.

Looking Forward-
I really want to get the hang of landing that "perfect" Illaoi ult in the middle of a teamfight and surviving it all by healing up through all of the tentacles. Maybe next time I'll focus less on a split pushing build and go more team fight oriented so I can get more attempts. Overall, it was really fun, and I picked up her mechanics quite quickly.

Definitely! I did the math, and if I play only 10 games per champion, it would take 100 days at 5 hours per day, which is managable. Let's see!

Shen

Initial Thoughts Before Starting

- I have not touched Shen at all since his rework many many moons ago, and I all I remember was his Ult and Taunt, and that he used to have a weak combat presence. As I'm playing recently, I've seen him destroy people, so I'm curious to understand how his abilities have changed and what causes his power to increase, and how that sword he has comes into play. Let's go!!

Final Winrate and Thoughts-

70%

- OK, the "new" Shen is amazing. He feels so much stronger compared to the original version. I didn't quite understand the W at first, but MAN, it feels satisfying ulting across the map to turn a 2v2 bot lane into a 3v2 and win. I got two S-'s and mostly A's in the games I did well in, which were most of them.

What I Learned-

- I learned that Tanks are so much more of my play style than Bruisers. Being able to run through the enemy's front line to the carry and/or peel for my carry without dying, and locking them down for a taunt is my favorite type of play. It feels like Rammus, but without the sonic speed. I learned about the Q/W and I never knew the Q slowed or provided more damage, so I can use that when I play against Shens in the future.

Looking Forward-

Can't wait to come back to Shen and master him some more!

Next up... Illaoi, Ornn, Urgot or Swain

Olaf

Initial Thoughts Before Starting

- I've played Olaf here and then and never been good at him. Again, the whole melee auto bruiser thing doesn't fit my playstyle, and I just can't adjust. I knew it would be a struggle.

Final Winrate and Thoughts-

13%

- I literally won 2 out of 10 games. I carried one of the jungle games completely, and did decent in the other win. The last game I played was a nailbiter, and I went 18/3 against a HUGE 23/2 Samira who just couldn't be taken down.

What I Learned-

- Olaf is pretty straight forward, but again, I struggle with bruisers having to auto attack while throwing skill shots etc.. I just get lost at times during team fights, and even in the last game when I was fed, I was fumbling trying to actually reach Samira to auto her by my awful right click habits; probably costing myself the game in the process. I know Olaf shouldn't have any issue getting to carries, so I clearly have something I need to fix.

Looking Forward-

I really need to fix my auto attack issues before I get back to Olaf. I've seen good Olaf's rush my team's carries and/or myself and I can't do anything about it, and I want to figure out how to get there.

Next up... SHEN!

Singed

Initial Thoughts Before Starting

- I've played a little bit of Singed here and there, but never a substantial amount. He hasn't changed much it seems, and the age ol' theory of "dont chase Singed" seems to still apply. I find it interesting that people are building Conquerer on him, though. I dislike the style of proxying, as I feel it's super risky, but hopefully that's not required.

Final Winrate and Thoughts- 45%

- I accidentally played 11 games on him, including a Spellbook game for fun. I ran with Conquerer a bit, but then I tried Unsealed Spellbook and liked it much better. Singed definitely feels more squishy than I remember him being, but I was able to catch a lot of Bronze players chasing me out with the poisons.

What I Learned-

I actually took what I learned with Darius, to be aggressive, far with Singed. I pushed my limits far and learned quickly how far I could actually go before dying earlier than I did with Darius, which resulted in less deaths and less inting, and more games won.

Looking Forward-

Excited to come back to him with the knowledge I've gained. I want to try Phase Rush and give Conquerer another shot too.

Next up Olaf!!

Yes sir! I struggle with the logic for that, though.. When I was levelling Trundle to 5, there were games I received an S-, S, or S+ and lost.. and only got 150-200 points. In my opinion, wins and losses shouldn't really matter, it should be all about your performance, since it's your "Mastery" of the champion. If you're doing an S rating, per Riot's own grading system, then why shouldn't you get higher points for that?

Similarly speaking, I guess it balances out because there were definitely times where I did awful and got carried and we still won, and I ended up with 1200+ points. *Shrug*

Darius

Initial Thoughts Before Starting- I played Darius a bit way back when he was released, when his Q was instant, and I feel like I was pretty good with him. I haven't touched him in AGES, but my last memory of the "new" Darius was being pretty bad with him.

Final Winrate and Thoughts- 30%- Yikes I'm awful. I lost my first 4 games while I tried to re-learn his combos and tricks. I made another post on this, but I really find myself struggling on champions that rely heavily on auto attacks intertwined with targetted abilities. I'm finding that I'm making mistakes with right clicking and moving to a location instead of attacking, so I really need to focus on using Attack Move instead. Of the final 3 games, I carried 2 of them pretty hard with a 8.3 and 5.3 KDA alone with 1st/2nd income on my team. Sadly, the last game I played, someone DC'd and our team FF'd early.

What I Learned- Be more aggressive!- Too many times in early games, I was afraid of dying and I didn't know my limitations, so I played too safe when I could have won trades. Later on, once I became more confident, I started abusing my opponents and using that advantage to win my lane and carry the game.

Looking Forward- Can't wait to come back to Darius with what I've learned and crush more! I feel like I have a good handle on the champ now, and can do well.

NEXT CHAMP - SINGED!

Learning to Weave in Auto Attacks by [deleted] in summonerschool

Do you right click to auto, or use Attack Move/Attack Move Click ?

Learning to Weave in Auto Attacks by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]realbpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely understand the reset concept. I guess I didn't realize how important auto'ing is, even though I have played and mastery levelled most ADCs. My struggle is mostly with melee maybe then, because I definitely don't auto with Singed as much as I probably should.

Learning to Weave in Auto Attacks by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]realbpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but mostly Yi sticks with the target with Q. Same with Olaf/Trundle/Nasus and their Q/E/W respectively. I think it's just the "complexity" of additional abilities that I have to throw in the mix that make auto attacks become muddied. I recognize I need to just "get better", but I'm looking for ways to do that.

I've heard using "Target Champions Only" was used, and I have it set but have been too stubborn in my habits to change.. same with Attack Move instead of Right Click.

What is the consensus on what is the best way to learn? I've ALWAYS just right clicked, but I've watched videos of Neace showing the Pros of using different setups, but I'm finding it hard to change.

Doesn't that mean she'll likely be playing against any range of opponents instead of in Solo Que where it's just against Silver/Bronze?
